Dead Rising 2: Off the Record video covers Frank West's war coverage. Also: Electric Crusher!

We have a love/hate relationship with the Dead Rising series: We love the creative, over-the-top, zombie-crushing violence and comedic sensibilities, while we hate the time-attack structure and boring grind. For all the changes we wished Capcom implemented in Dead Rising 2, replacing series star Frank West with father/motocross star Chuck Greene was one modification we wish the devs had skipped. October’s update to the sequel, Dead Rising 2: Off the Record recasts that adventure and replaces Greene with the intrepid photojournalist. Today’s trailer for the title gives new players a little history about the man. (Hint: He’s covered wars.)

Truly illuminating. As long as we’re talking about DR2 vids, during Comic-Con last week Capcom gave us a glimpse of the newest addition to Dead Rising’s weapon’s chest: the Electric Crusher. This new combination makes you a low-rent Thor as you smash your massive, super-charged hammer into zombies to gain massive PP. What will they think of next?

I really don't know what Capcom's playing up at. It seems like all they can offer is SUPER HYPER STREET FIGHTER IV TURBO HD ZONE ARCADE EDITION, a redo of what was once an additional mode with a terrible save system and the same system over and over and over again. Sorry Capcom. It seems like you're in a rough spot.

    Meh, another Capcom rehash.

Awesome! I cant wait! @Crypto140 No, its a different game, and Technically, Dead rising 2 itself was just a different character skin considering Frank west (from the first game) is taking charge

So it's Dead Risisng 2... with a different character skin?

i actually just beat this game today on co-op, and have no clue how anyone could have done it single player. also, i agree somewhat with red since i did feel like it was rushed. (i currently TECHNICALLY have finished the story, but after the credits rolled i was surprised to see there was at least a little bit more content). as a side note, whats the deal with not supporting DLC for steam capcom assholes?

A Dead Rising update? And no one has anything nice to say about it? I like wars, hopefully Frank will cover many of them, preferably with a blanket or something. So they don't catch a cold of course. Ha ha, a cold war. See this is what happens! I have to make stupid puns! I can't even talk about that bitching hammer that was handed down from the gods themselves. Oh, forget it...

As someone who was originally a die-hard Dead Rising fan I'm offended to be Frank. (That was a play on words, I'll give you a few seconds to work that one out.) Chuck Greene's story ended mighty abruptly if you ask me. The writing felt rushed like there was originally supposed to be more but they ran out of time. Of course then they came out with Case West which was only available on 360 so I had to miss out on that. However I did Youtube it and it's clear this was ultimately supposed to be the real ending to Dead Rising 2 but someone got greedy. Now they're remaking the entire game as Frank? He should have been in the game in the first place, this is a rip off.

Sounds like Zombie Inception to me. A Zombie game ad within a zombie game?

I never understood people's love for Frank West, I thought he was a dull character, that I didn't care about and didn't care if he survived or not. IMO Chuck Greene was a much better character and his story with his daughter made you care about what happened to him.

Haven't played Dead rising.. However Why does he sound like a child in a mans body?
  • peachguy - July 27, 2011 10:52 p.m.

    Ramen, I don't see how that's odd.

So, I was forced to watch a trailer for a zombie game... before I could watch a trailer for a zombie game? The odd part it, dead island looks way better than this repetitive zombie slaughter.
