Civilization V is free this weekend, 75% off on Steam

In anticipation of the upcoming Gods and Kings expansion pack, 2K Games has announced that they'll be holding a Civilization V sale on Steam, along with a promotion that will make Civ V completely free for just this weekend.

Until the end of the weekend, Civilization V is 75% off on Steam, including all DLC, bringing the cost down to just $7.49 and some DLC as low as $0.75.

The Gods and Kings expansion is due to arrive on June 19, and will usher in a host of new content to Civ V including 27 new units, 13 new buildings, 9 new wonders, and 9 new playable civilizations as well as a new religion system that allows you to create your own customizable religion. But we're most excited about the new Steampunk Mode that we previewed earlier this month.

This is why we love Steam. Take notice Origin.

I don't see how this is free, but I'm going to take a look and see if Steam is a little more clear.

free to play for the weekend if you buy it? weird.

no, it means you can play it for free before you buy. download the full game, and play it during the free-to-play period. to purchase it or not depends on you. steam do this a lot. but it's weird though, usually they do this to promote indie games, rarely for widely-acclaimed masterpieces like Civ V.

Well i tried and i found it really cool. Buy the game of the year eddition, then the combo DLC pack for wonders+korea, comes out to just under 15 bucks. Not bad consitering i was checking it out a few months back and the game+ all DLC was up near 85 bucks. Great deal if ya ask me.

it looks to have some of the DLC included. So most likely the best deal is to buy that, then get the rest of the DLC.. But you might want to add up the prices just to be sure. I'm giving it a try myself, as the price is hard to pass up, let alone try it for free.

This looks like a good time to finally pick this up. What's the difference between the main version and the game of the year edition?

The GotY edition includes some of the DLC packs and bonus features like a making-of video and the soundtrack.

Cool, I've been looking for a chance to pick up a bit of DLC and dust that game off.
