About This FAQ ========================================================= This is the first of many FAQs I will be writing based around the Shin Megami Tensei series of games. I hope to, someday, write walkthroughs for every game in all of the various series. This will take some time and patience since many are not translated to the US as of yet and the rest are rare so the prices of them are incredibly prohibitive to buying them but it is something I am dedicating myself to. Unlike the other games in the Megaten series, Devil Summoner features a very different approach to the games. You will control Raidou, the typical silent protagonist, in an action RPG type setting where the combat is quasi-realtime with pauses for a variety of actions. Thus you will literally get to fight alongside all of your favorite demons from the previous games, matching sword to claw with some infamous baddies. ***************************************** Raidou Kuzunoha vs. the Soulless Army ***************************************** By the Japanese calender, it's Taisho year 20, and the tension between the ancient ways and modern technology is tighter than a noose. The stage is set for a hard-luck detective and his young assistant to meet a dame with a shocker of a request. "I want you to... kill me." Before Shouhei Narumi and Raidou Kuzunoha can come up with an answer, some mysterious figures snatch the girl and the game is afoot. What these two don't know is that a simple kidnapping is about to spark a chain of events that will shake the nation... and that the search might lead them over their heads in a deep pool of darkness. ---------------- Devil Summoner ---------------- The Kuzunoha Clan and the Japanese gods go way back. The Kuzunohas made a name for themselves in ancient times, when four up-and-coming Devil Summoners showed Yatagarasu's enemies the door. Ever since, the names of the four Devil Summoners have been handed down as honorary titles in the Kuzunoha clan, and the best of 'em was Raidou. If anyone can get to the bottom of this kidnapping, it's the newly-appointed Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th. ========================================================= 3. Gameplay Basics ========================================================= Devil Summoner is a game of a number of conflicting gameplay styles. On one hand the combat is real-time but on the other hand it can also be paused to allow you to summon new demons and reload ammo. You will spend much of your time doing fairly mundane things, such as gathering info, but you will have to fight off demons all the while. This section is built to help novice players get used to the game as painlessly as possible. ========================= Investigation ========================= Since you are a private investigator, and this is an RPG, you can expect to do lots of running around. Several of the quests in this game will essentially amount to you running around, talking to people and gathering information. This can get a bit hard on the nerves at times since you will be fighting demons all the while, so you may wish to carry around a Repulse Water or two to make these sections of the game a bit more bearable. However it can be fun to run around and piece things togethr as you are exploring and making friends. ========================= Combat ========================= When it comes to actually having to off an enemy you will have a few options to choose from when dealing with them. Not only will you have your sword and your gun but you can use demons and a variety of bullets. While the combat might intially seem very simplistic (hack, hack, hack sort of simple) there is a fair bit of depth to it once you get later into the game. ============== Sword Fighting ============== The sword is the strongest too at Raidous' disposal however it is also fairly limited. When you are using the sword to attack you will be able to stagger enemies and prevent them from attacking in kind (mostly) but you will have to get close enough to them to use the sword in the first place, which can be a challenge at times. Many of the demons in this game prefer to sit at a range and fire off magic spells at you so getting close to them can be a challenge in and of itself. There are three ways to use the sword in combat: 1. The three hit combo: By pressing the square button three times in a row you will be able to string together three successively more powerful attacks. The first hit is weak but it will usually stagger enemies. The second attack is a fair bit stronger but the third is stronger still. If all three connect with a target then you will do a serious amount of damage. 2. You can do a lunging attack by pressing square and a direction on the analog stick at the same time. This does damage that is slightly less than the third hit in the combo but it also has the benefit of knocking an enemy back. The downside to this attack is that you can knock an enemy out of the way of your demons attacks but it is also very good for rapidly closing the distance to the enemy you are trying to take out. 3. If you hold down the square button you can charge up a spin attack. This does an amount of damage depending no how long you charge it up. If you simply execute the move it is comparable to the second hit in the three hit combo but if you fully charge it (indicated by the blue energy swirling around him) the damage can be more so than the even your strongest combo strike. Spamming this when surrounded by enemies can rapidly kill them and knock them back. Your sword can be made to do more damage by forging it with a demon in the Gouma Den. In addition to doing more damage you can also gain resistances to a single type of attack that depends on the demon sacrificed (someone that nulls fire damage will let you resist fire) and it will also boost your stats. This is a serious boon and should be done as often as possible. ============== Gun Fighting ============== The gun is a fairly weak weapon even with the best bullets in the game. However it is not meant to be your primary weapon it is merely a tool. You can use the various types of bullets to stun enemies, attack their weak points or inflict status ailments on them. This leaves the gun as a way of weakening the enemies for you and your demon to pound on them. Take note that you are stuck in place while firing the gun so do not do this right near an enemy unless you are fully sure that he will be to stunned to attack you back. The major downfall to using the gun is that, in addition to how weak it is, if an enemy is weak to ice but immune to bullets your ice bullets will have no effect whatsoever. In these situations you will have to rely on your demons in the entirety since your gun will be useless in the extreme. ******************** Gun / Sword combo ******************** When you are using your gun you will fire three shots and then have the ability to move around. Sometimes the recovery time is a bit too long and you miss out on time to exploit an enemys weakness. However there is a trick to using the gun that can, for the most part, eliminate this problem. Press Triangle to fire the gun and while Raidou is shooting the enemy begin to press the Square button repeatedly. As soon as Raidou finishes the third shot with the pistol he will immediately switch to a hard sword strike, the last hit of his three hit combo. This can do some pretty heavy damage and while it means you have to be close to the enemy its easy to use this to kill off a weakened foe before you get hit. ============== Blocking ============== One of the things that makes the fights in this game fairly easy is the ability to block attacks. Even though it is very hard to move out of the way of attacks there are only a few attacks in the entire game that you cannot block so make sure to block often. The damage from attacks is reduced drastically and any of the side effects of the attack are negated (an attack that would stun you does not actually stun you). It is essential that you learn how to time your blocks to stop most of the enemies bigger attacks especially when dealing with the bosses and later enemies. Your demons can also block when you are controlling them solo so you do not have to worry about not having the ability while controlling them. ========================= Exploiting Weaknesses ========================= Raidou isn't exactly a powerhouse, even when his strength is getting into the mid-30's and his sword has been fully powered up. The Fury demons will still do a fair sight more damage than he does and most spells put his sword attacks to shame. However he isn't meant to defeat enemies just by hacking away with his sword until they die. Being a Devil Summoner requires a bit more of a... battle plan than that. To defeat enemies as quickly, and efficiently, as possible you will want to go after their weaknesses. When you encounter a new enemey you have to try and figure out what its weakness is. Switch out demons, change your bullets around and just keep attacking until you learn what it is weak against. For some of the enemies it is fairly obvious (Jack Frost is weak vs. fire, duh!) but some others will be harder to figure out. Once you have learned an enemies weakness once you can remind yourself of it at any later time by using the Analyze command from the R1 menu. This is totally useless during Boss fights and challenges even if you have fought the enemy before so don't even try. As soon as you know what the enemy is vulnerable to make sure to exploit it at every oppurtunity. This will prevent the enemy from harming you and allow you to kill it off quicker, getting through fights faster and raking in more and more Experience points. Always exploit an enemies weak spots, it will make some boss fights actually somewhat easy when they initially seem near hopeless (I am looking at you Mishaguji). ========================= Leveling Up Raidou ========================= As you gain enough experience Raidou will slowly but steadily gain levels. Whenever you level up you will gain one single point that can be placed in any of your four attributes; Strength, Vitality, Magic and Luck. In addition you will gain Hit Points, usually in fairly large lumps. Each of the four stats effects something different: Str (Strength): Increases the amount of damage that you do with sword attacks. Vit (Vitality): Increases your total hit points with each point put into it. Mag (Magic): Decreases the MAG cost to summon demons and increases their power. Luck: Seems to effect many aspects such as items found and other minor things. When your Magic starts to get higher your demons will gain purple bars to their stats, increasing their effectiveness. It isn't really anything all that big, three bars to at max to certain attributes when your magic is in its 30's but it is a nice boost. You should consider what sort of character you wish to make early on. The most common suggestion is to increase your Vitality and Magic over almost anything else and let the various Incense items you find increase your other stats, but to each their own. Never use the Incense items on your demons, they are put to much better use by being put on Raidou. If you are obsessed with increasing your demons stats use the Sacrifice ability at the Gouma Den with a cheap demon, recall it from the Demon Compendium and then sacrifice it again. ========================= Status Ailments ========================= Most of the status ailments in the game have two different effects, how they effect Raidou and how they effect his demons. As such both will be explained in the following sections. Take note that most status effects will end when the battle is completed if you choose not to use an item, or the Patra skill, to clear them up. However some status effects do not end after a fight, namely Poison and Mute, these will fade away when the next new moon arrives. ******** Burn ******** Demon - This is a status ailment caused by getting hit with fire when that is the demons weakness. It isn't the sort of ailment that is caused by any one spell and it represents the vulnerable state a demon is in while weakened by the fire spell. It will only go away after a few seconds of the demon being in the weakened state. ******** Charm ******** Raidou - When Raidou is afflicted by the charm status ailment he will stand in place and not move no matter what happens. However the status ailment rarely phases him for very long and you will recover soon enough. If you and your demon are both hit though you could very well end up dead very quickly. Demon - Should one of your demons get charmed then you are likely in for some major problems. They will begin to chase after you while trying to pummel you with their spells and attacks or, worst case, start healing your enemies. This can be a serious issue in some of the boss fights and cause you to lose a fair amount of work. Luckily for you this doesn't last all that long so if you can dodge your demon it will end soon enough. ******** Dead ******** Raidou - When Raidou himself dies that's it, game over. You will need to reload from a previous save and hope for better fortune this time. If you died due to a status ailment or some other unexpected turn of fate make sure you are ready for it this time. Demon - Death for demons is more of an inconvenience than anything else. All you need to do is use a Jin Dan or a Balm of Life to bring them back from the dead and summon someone to fight by your side again. The only way this can be a real nuisance is if a boss kills your demon right before he dies, causing the demon to miss out on the experience from the fight. ******** Dizzy ******** Demon - This is a status ailment caused by getting hit with physical effects when that is the demons weakness. It isn't the sort of ailment that is caused by any one spell and it represents the vulnerable state a demon is in while weakened by the physical spell. It will only go away after a few seconds of the demon being in the weakened state. ******** Freeze ******** Demon - This is a status ailment caused by getting hit with ice when that is the demons weakness. It isn't the sort of ailment that is caused by any one spell and it represents the vulnerable state a demon is in while weakened by the ice spell. It will only go away after a few seconds of the demon being in the weakened state. ******** Impede ******** Demon - This is a status ailment caused by getting hit with force when that is the demons weakness. It isn't the sort of ailment that is caused by any one spell and it represents the vulnerable state a demon is in while weakened by the force spell. It will only go away after a few seconds of the demon being in the weakened state. ******** Mute ******** Raidou - When Raidou has been muted he cannot confine demons. As such this is a fairly negligable status effect. It does note fade away when a fight ends so you might wish to get rid of it if you are planning on capturing any demons any time soon. Demon - A demon who has been muted cannot use any of their skills until the status effect is removed. They will be forced to rely on their regular strike attacks which can be a problem for many demons although in some cases it can be fairly ignored (especially for creatures like Siegfried). ******** Panic ******** Raidou - Panic is essentially the Devil Summoner version of confusion. While he is under the effect of Panic your controls will be reversed and you will be unable to access the command menu (R1). Since this ends as soon as the battle does it usually isnt that big of a threat. The best way to handle it is to spam the thrust attack and spin attacks to ensure you hurt your foes. Demon - When your demon is under the influence of a Panic effect they are a threat to both you and your foes. They will pick a target at random and attack them be it you or a foe. Depending on the fight, and demon so panicked, this can either be a serious problem or something you can ignore. ******** Poison ******** Raidou / Demon - This works exactly the same on both Raidou and his demons. When you get poisoned you will lose HP slowly over time both in and out of fights. This one takes some time to go away (next new moon) so it is advised that you get rid of it as soon as possible before it drains your health and you have to heal yourself in addition to removing the poison. ******** Rage ******** Raidou - When Raidou has been enraged his attacks will be 150% as useful as they normally would be (that is you do 50% more damage) and you will also take about 50% more damage with each hit. As you can tell it can actually be fairly useful to leave yourself enraged for a bit. Since you can still use your gun you should use that to limit the number of times they can attack you back. If you can hit an enemies weakness with your gun (or demon) you can beat the utter crud out of them with your sword thanks to the Rage. Demon - Much like Raidou the demon will do more damage in melee and it will take extra damage from their attacks. However, unlike Raidou, they will not use their ranged attacks and will charge for the nearest enemy. While this isn't a big deal for the more melee oriented types of demons it can, and will, get the spellcaster types dead really fast. ******** Seal ******** Demon - This is a status effect for demons only and it only comes up a scant few times. When a demon is struck with this status effect they will be knocked out of the fight, unsummoning them and locking them into their tubes. You will not be able to summon that demon for the duration of the fight so if you see the attack coming try to return it to its tube before it gets knocked out of the fight entirely. ******** Shock ******** Demon - This is a status ailment caused by getting hit with ice when that is the demons weakness. It isn't the sort of ailment that is caused by any one spell and it represents the vulnerable state a demon is in while weakened by the ice spell. It will only go away after a few seconds of the demon being in the weakened state. ******** Sleep ******** Raidou - As you might expect when struck with a sleep attack you will be unable to move or take any actions. Any enemies who strike you during this time will get the rare benefit of doing a critical strike to Raidou. However this seems to accelerate how quickly you wake up. You will heal some of your HP every few seconds or so while you are asleep so it isn't all that bad. Demon - This operates in the exact same way that it works for Raidou except for two differences. The demon doesn't wake up for nothing, no matter how many times they get hit. Secondly they will recover some HP and MP for every few seconds that they remain asleep. Due to this it can actually be a very useful thing for you when they fall asleep so long as your demon isn't getting hit by the enemies. ******** Sluggish ******** Raidou / Demon - This isn't so much of a status ailment as it is an accessory effect to another type of magic. It is very rare for a demons attack to cause the status ailment in and of itself but a number of spells (like Hellfire and Cocytus) cause this in addition to the damage and possibly hitting a demons weakness, causing a number of issues for you to deal with. ******** Stone ******** Raidou / Demon - This is a really deadly status ailment and it is both useful for you and incredibly deadly for you to be on the recieving end of it. When someone has been turned to stone they are in serious danger of suffering an automatic death. Anyone who is petrified can be shattered by a strong strike, the lower their health the more likely that they shatter. ******** Stun ******** Raidou / Demon - When a demon is stunned it is essentially the same thing as being put to sleep except that you do not heal anything. Your character will be rooted to the spot for the duration of the effect although this doesn't really last long enough for it to be that big of a problem. ========================================================= 5. Devil Summoning and You ========================================================= This section of the walkthrough will focus on explaining the things that a novice Devil Summoner will need to know to proceed through the game without too many hitches. If there is something that I have failed to include here simply send me an e-mail and I will add a section for it in a future update. ========================= Moon Phases ========================= Much like in most other MegaTen games, the moon plays a large role in this game. Depending on the moon phase creatures will act differently. Certain types of demons can only be captured during the full moon and the stat boosts you can gain from the soda join will only last until the next new moon. Keep your eyes on the moon phase and make sure that you do the things you need to do during the appropriate phase. ========================= Magnetite (MAG) ========================= Magnetite is the secondary currency in this game and its sole purpose is to be used as appeasement for your demons. You will need Magnetite to summon your allies both inside and outside of battle. Whenever you open a menu to summon your demon the Magnetite cost will be displayed across from their name under a green symbol, somewhat reminiscent of the symbol for Yen. In some rare few cases you will need to give it to demons you meet on maps to barter for items or information. During your first playthrough Magnetite should never be a problem. The amount that you get from enemies compared to the amount that you spend should be more than enough to keep you comfortably summoning whichever demons you want as much as you like. So do not hesitate to switch demons around multiple times in a fight if you have to. To reduce the cost of summoning your demons, and spare yourself some Magnetite, increase your Magic rating. This lowers how much MAG you need to spend to summon a demon. While not important at first later demons will cost upwards of 70 MAG to summon and you may or may not get that much back after killing groups of enemies, so be careful. ========================= Demon Confinement Tubes ========================= The Demon Confinement Tubes are where you store your demons after you have captured them. You only have a finite number of them, starting at six and going up to twelve of them, so you have to be smart about who you bring with you. A good spread of demons with the right investigative skills, strengths, skills and resistances will go a long ways towards making your life easy. To capture a demon you must first strike it with its weakness and then run up to it and press the Circle button. This will start the confinement mini-game. You have to jam on the button as quickly as possible to draw it into the tube. It is possible to fail in this for a number of reasons: 1. If you get hit by another enemy you will automatically fail. Due to this it is suggested that you get rid of all but one enemy and then capture them. 2. Should you not hit the button fast enough it can pull away, so make sure you are cramming away on the button. 3. You must be at least equal level with the demon you are trying to capture. If you are lower level than him you will automatically fail to capture them and they will taunt you over this fact. 4. If you are trying to capture a Skill-order demon it will always fail to be captured UNLESS you try to do it during a full moon. Should you try it at any other time they will tell you what you are doing wrong. So if you really want to capture that demon simply loiter around the area until the moon shifts in your favor and capture it. ========================= Loyalty & Title ========================= As a devil summoner there are two incredibly important things you will need to have on you at all times. Magnetite and demon confinement tubes are important to handling and controlling your demons. When Raidou first begins the game he will only have six confinement tubes and the ability to use a minimum amount of Magnetite that he can carry. The only way to increase the amount of Magnetite that you can carry is to gain your demons loyalty. Loyalty will increase as you defeat enemies and it will appear under your Experience earned for the fight. When your demons gain enough loyalty to you, you will prove yourself as a Devil Summoner and earn title increases. These will allow you to carry more Magnetite and, at certain levels, will provide you with more tubes. You can speak to the Herald of Yatagarasu at the Nameless Shrine to gain a superficial title to go along with the increased capacity for Magnetite. The following chart illustrates what title you can get, what loyalty you need to have (this can be viewed from Raidou's status screen), how much Magnetite the loyalty level will allow you to carry at a time and how many Confinement tubes you will carry. ========================= || Title Changes || ||=====================||=========================================\\ || Title || Req. These alcoholic drinks will provide your demons with a quick and easy boost to their loyalty towards you. While this may seem to be a quick and convenient way of raising loyalty it sadly is not to be. Any loyalty that you get via this method will not go towards your loyalty total which means that you will end up missing out on possible loyalty gains from the demon you use it on. Since Sake is worth so much (1,000 Yen at a minimum) you are far better off just selling it and doing some Experience and Loyalty grinding later on. That way you can raise your title quicker and carry more Mag and Tubes. The only use Sake really has is if you are filthy rich (unlikely) and you have an abundance of money. Simply stockpile Sake and when a demon comes along that you want to fuse but don't feel like fighting alongside it just get it drunk enough that its loyalty will max out and then fuse (or Forge) away with it. See that? Getting a demon drunk and taking advantage of it is fun and useful. ========================= Leveling Your Demons ========================= Whenever a demon levels up it will automatically gain a boost to one of its four attributes. These boosts seem predetermined by what sort of creature it is so don't expect strength boosts for the spellcasters. They will also gain a fairly small boost to their HP and MP but it is rarely anything all that big unles they have a high vitality or magic rating (which seems to boost how much HP or MP they get when leveling up). The first time that a newly captured, or fused, demon levels up it will learn its combination art, which are covered below. The second time that it levels up it will learn its secondary skill, a support type skill. It is usually a good idea to let your demon learn its support skill so that it can pass that on to any demons that you fuse it with. Also when a demon levels up there is a chance that it will give you some sort of itme. Usually this will be one of the healing items (Medicine, Anti-Poison, etc.) but occasionally you might be given ammunition or, more rarely, one of the sellable items. ========================= Combination Attacks ========================= Combination attacks, learned at your demons first level up, come in a variety of flavors. Some demons will learn a variety of attack type powers and some will learn powerful defensive skills. These are very powerful and important to learn since they can easily swing the nature of a fight, especially a boss battles where you will be fighting long enough to use a combination skill more than once. To actually use a combination skill you will need to get your demons morale up to maximum. When a demon is beating up on enemies or, better yet, you and the demon are exploiting an enemys' weakness. They will lose morale when they are getting beat up or their weakness is being exploited. When it maxes out the demons status box will glow green and you can initiate the attack by pressing the square and Cross (X) buttons at the same time. It is hard to say what sorts of combination skills you should be bringing into fights with you. The -shot attacks are powerful, and ranged, but if an enemy is immune to bullets then it will have no effect. The -spin/storm attacks are yet more powerful but their range is incredibly limited. The elemental attacks that your demon can fire as a combination attack (Fireball, Thunderbolt) are very reliable but they are projectiles and an enemy can easily move out of the way of one of these attacks, wasting it. Probably the most reliable ones are the Null or Drain combinations. These will allow you to ignore enemies attacks or even heal from them. If you are going up against a demon that uses plenty of ice attacks and you can drain ice attacks then you will be getting healed instead of hurt for most of the fight. ========================= Demon Orders ========================= Demons come in a variety of types, known as Orders. These different Orders all have some of affiliation with a common type of demon, even if they don't all act like it (Susano-O is a Fury Order but he acts like a Pyro). Generically speaking these Orders usually have much in common, namely their resistances and weaknesses and their Investigative skills. ****** Pyro - Demons of this order tend to be, by and large, of the spellcasting type. While there are those who break that mold many of them fill this role although they can have a variety of support spells. Most of them have vulnerabilities to either ice or force based magics. Several of them are immune or resistant to bullets as well. ****** Frost - Frost demons run the gamut between spelllcasters and melee types. They are all over the place when it comes to both their attacks and their variety in their weaknesses. There is also serious amounts of variety in the investigation skills that they might possess. ****** Volt - Most of the Volt demons in this game are of the spellcasting variety. There are several that are more physical based but they're in the minority for the most part. Most of them seem to be lacking in the investigation skill area usually having only the one investigation skill, Inspect. Some few of them have the Sneak skill but for the most part it seems to be empty more often than not. ****** Wind - The lions share of your Wind order demons are able more akin to moderate strength spellcasters who can do both melee and cast magic. Many of them come with one offensive and one support magic spell however they are usually lacking in the investigation skills department. They aren't usually that bad off should they be forced into melee. ****** Fury - The fury demons are almost uniformly physical based with a few fairly high strength spellcasters in the mix. They are good for mixing it up with the enemies in melee or using more physical based attack skills. For the most part they are ideal for being sent solo however you do have to be careful when you send them solo. Make sure that their weakness doesn't get hit while they are going solo or they might get killed on you. ****** Pagan - These are the most useful demons in the entire game mainly thanks to their Read Mind investigation skill. However another side benefit of this is that they will have odd combinations, like casting ice magic and a weakness to force magic for example. They are all over the place as far as their strengths and weaknesses and it is pretty easy to find one or two that have skills that you will find useful. ****** Skill - You can make your way through the entire game without using any of the skill order demons for much of anything. Their "investigation" skill is pretty much useless (Demonstrate) and they rarely have any other skills that are very much worth anything. Their strengths and weaknesses are fairly useless most of the time and they have a penchant for having status effect spells, like Petra and Pulinpa. ========================= Investigation Skills ========================= All demons, regardless of anything else, will have at least one type of Investigation skill related to their order. Pyro order demons will all have the Ignite skill and all Pagan order demons will have the Read Mind skill. Some individual demons will also have a second investigation skill particular to that one type of demon. Due to this quirk it is very important that you keep one of each type of demon so that you have access to all of the Order skills. All of these, except for Demonstrate, will come in useful at some point. However certain ones you do not need to keep around at all times since if a skill is needed you can, more often than not, find a demon in the area with that skill. Simply capture it and put it to use. Then you can dismiss it or keep it and level it up. Some of the unique demon skills will come up at times but very rarely are they something you will be required to use to advance the storyline. Only Fly and Sneak ever come up in this regard and plenty of demons have Fly. ********************* Skills by Order ********************* Cool Down ************ You will find this skill on, you guessed it, Frost-order demons. It has limited applications in the game both in and out of social situations. When talking to people you can use it to calm down upset or angry people or those who are so emotionally upset that they wont speak to you. There are only four or five situations this comes in useful, only one of which is quest related. It can be used to freeze things as well, such as water, however this was only used once or twice in the entire game. ************ Demonstrate ************ This is a quirky little skill found only on Skill-order demons. It has a few uses but it's useless by and large. When you have a demon with Demonstrate following you around on the field, or dungeon, map there is a chance he will seek to Demonstrate for you. If you allow them to do this they will produce one of a number of random results. This can range from transforming useless items like Old Underwear or Sticks into something useful like Balms of Life, to randomly increasing your stats or even healing or damaging you and your demons. Its a serious game of chance that rarely if ever pays off in any meaningful way. Keep one out for some time and see what it's like but overall you are much better off with keeping someone more useful out. ************ Ignite ************ Ignite is located, fittingly, on the Pyro-order demons. You can use it either literally or figuratively. Literally only comes up a few times and it will be used, obviously, to set things on fire. However you can also use it to tamper with the emotions of others. You can use it on people who are feeling down in the dumps or feeling somewhat defeated. It can be hard to figure out who this is used on since it will sometimes be used on people who seem to be concealing things, much like Read Mind would. However it is quite good for getting people who are timid or shy to blurt things out. ************ Inspect ************ Inspect is found only on Volt-order demons. Via the use of their spiritual energy they will search an area. They can find hidden items through the use of this (even secret areas later in the game). If you happen to find a place where there is a dead end with nothing in it use a Volt order demon to search the area. Used in conjunction with the Wind demon Scout skill you can narrow down how many items are hidden in an area and then use Inspect to find them. You do not need to keep a demon with Inspect out at all times though since this is only useful every so often. ************ Read Mind ************ Without a doubt this is the single most often used of all the skills and will be found only on Pagan-order demons. When used it will allow you to hear what people are thinking. Typically this will be used to find out little bits of information but it will also be used to advance the storyline in certain areas of the game. When playing on Hard mode it is a good idea to keep a Pagan-order demon out at all times since they will be useful more often than any other. ************ Scout ************ This is the province of Wind-order demons and it really isn't going to be used all that often. When you activate this skill it will send the Wind demon flying up into the air and they will return with information. They will tell you what sort of demons are located on the map and how many items are left to be found there. Occassionally they will find items and bring them back to you, these can range from useless Sticks to healing items. The higher your loyalty the greater the chance that they bring something back. ************ Use Force ************ Much like Cool Down Fury-order demons and their skill, Use Force, don't really see all that much use. When used it by a demon it will be able to forcefully knock an obstacle out of the way to clear a path. However this skill was only used about two or three times over the course of the game so you really do not need to worry about it. ********************* Skills by Demon ********************* Allure ************ This is an investigative skill much in the vein of Cool Down or Ignite, you will use it to make friends with people. It only comes up two or three times and all those times there will be a demon in the area that you can capture to use the skill. Essentially it fills the air with pheromones that will cause the person its used on to be inclined to do whatever it is that you wanted them to do. Useful but not necessary. ************ Fly ************ There are numerous places that you simply cannot get to and you will require a demon with the Fly skill to reach. There are plenty of small situations where this comes up but since there are a large number of demons with this skill it won't be a problem to catch one of them when you need it. However it isn't a bad idea to keep a demon with the skill around you at all times to prevent you having to chase one down. ************ Intimidate ************ While Provoke makes you more prone to encounters Intimidate scares them off. A demon who uses this skill scares off enemies and lowers the encounter rate like a Repulse Water item. This one can be useful when going through a dungeon and you are expecting a boss fight. Since you don't want to go into one of those fights weakened from fights you can chase them off. However do not overdo it with this skill or you will be underleveled and not have as many demons as you really could have. ************ Loose Change ************ This skill and Scavenger are related and, fittingly, they are two of the most useful skills. When you have a demon with Loose Change following you around it will occasionally stop you and find Yen on the ground. This can range from only a few Yen, around 30 or so, to a few hundred. It isn't really as good as Scavenger though but it doesn't really hurt. ************ Provoke ************ More a matter of taste than anything else, Provoke acts as a free Attract Water item. When used it will increase the rate of your encounters which can be both a good thing and a bad thing. Since the encounter rate is high enough as it is this may be a bit of overkill unless you are trying to level up. Be careful when you use this skill as you might seriously weaken yourself before a boss battle due to the random encounters. ************ Scavenger ************ This is the single most useful demon skill in the game and it is also one of the rarest ones. When the demon is out on the map there is a fair chance that it will find an item, ranging from a Medicine to a Balm of Life. This is really useful and it happens quite a bit when you have them following you around. I kept a level 24 Jack Frost with me throughout most of the game to make sure that I had someone with this skill, it is just that useful. ************ Sneak ************ This skill means that your demon is small enough to make their way into spaces that most others couldn't get into. While it only comes up a few times during the course of the game it is something of a nuisance since none of the later demons in the game have this skill. You may need to pull a demon out of the Demon Compendium to actually use it when the situation comes up. Since it only comes up two times during the course of the game it shouldn't be that big of a deal. ========================= Demons Going Solo ========================= There will be times when your demon needs to be sent by itself. You may want to let them level up on their own or you might have to send them through a Tainted Gate or some treasure on the other side. Whatever the reason for it you will have to be careful when your demon is going by itself. When your demon is going on its own you will control it much like you control Raidou himself. The square button will do a basic strike, triangle will do one of its spells and circle will do the other. You can use the cross (X) button to block attacks much as Raidou can, this is of high importance when controlling your demon. Should your demon get hit by its weakness without you blocking it you will be stunned and start taking critical hits from the enemies. If you block it you will suffer little damage and no weakness stun and it is really important. Blocking is your best friend here. The major boon to controlling your demon is that when they die you will simply go back to controlling Raidou. You can bring the demon back from the dead, resummon them and send them on their way. Also they will act like Raidou when suffering from status ailments. So while this means that they will be stuck in place when charmed they won't accidentally kill Raidou and cause you to deal with a game over. =============================== Victor's Gouma Den =============================== Even more important than Kunnou-Ya is the Gouma Den. Here the mad scientist Victor will pioneer a variety of techniques for using your demons via fusions. Some of the better demons in the game can only be gotten via fusion after you have defeated them as a boss fight (nearly every boss can be fused). ========================= Binary Fusion ========================= Fusion should be no stranger to any who have played previous games in the Shin Megami Tensei series. Essentially you will be choosing two of your demons, getting rid of them and turning them into one brand new demon that probably inherited some stats and skills from its parents. Before you can actually get a demon to agree to be fused you must have fully filled its Loyalty meter. Once this is done you can send them to the fusion cages and get something new out of them. In addition you have to actually be of a high enough level to conrol the creature that is to be so created. If you are looking to craft a level 30 demon you will need to be, at a minimum, level 30 yourself. Otherwise you will be told that they will be too much for you to handle and the fusion will not occur. There are four types of fusions: 1. Normal Fusion - This occurs when two demons of different orders, but neither being of the Pagan or Skill order, are fused. The results are fairly easy to figure out and no matter what demons are involved only certain abilities will carry over and it will be the same abilities every time. This is the fusion for those who don't feel like taking any risks. 2. Identical Fusion - When you fuse two demons of the exact same order they will always create a Pagan or Skill type demon. However what sort of abilities that they inherit, if any, is pretty much up in the air. However it is a fair bit easier to get Skill demons via this route as opposed to trying to actually capture them. 3. Unstable Fusion - If you include a Skill demon in your fusion then you will have to deal with this type of fusion. The results of this type of fusion are always random and you can never tell what sort of demon is going to come out of it. It will usually be a fairly low level demon of a random type. 4. Inverted Fusion - These are fun. Whenever you include a Pagan Order demon in a fusion the results are interesting to say the least. The type of demon that it will produce is fairly consistant, what isn't consistant is what abilities the demon will inherit. You can create some pretty incredible demons via this route, such as Jack Frosts with fire spells and other such oddities. There is the chance that your attempt at Fusion will result in what is known as a Fusion Accident. After Episode 3 there will be a chance that any fusion you attempt will end up as an accident. The chance is incredibly small but becomes a fair sight more likely during a full moon (damn that moon). The demon that comes out of this will be a random demon with an ungodly random assortment of skills. Some pretty bizarre demons can come out of these accidents. The various types of Legion demon can only be created via fusion, it's impossible to get through any other means. ========================= Sacrifice ========================= At the beginning of Episode 2 Victor will offer you the ability to sacrifice your demons to boost one of your other demons stats. Usually it will be a one point boost to one of th stats however later fusions will even grant you a two point boost to one stat or even a one point boost to multiple stats. This is very limited in its usefulness since it is much easier to simply fuse your demons in a binary fusion and get rid of them that way. However if you do not have any reason to do a binary fusion then you can sacrifice it in this fashion. It's a nice way to get rid of an unwanted demon so if you have caught all the demons you can hold and a few of them are useless sacrifice them. The major benefit to the sacrifice ability is that your sacrifice doesn't need to have loyalty maxed out. So you can literally run around outside of the Gouma Den and snatch up Alps and use them as fodder for the fusion. However at no time can you actually fuse a demon that is higher level than you are. If you want that level 30 demon you have to be level 30 as well. This will likely only be a problem early in the game and very late in since those are the points when demons are likely to be considerably higher level than you. ========================= Forge ========================= Victor will offer you the ability to forge demons into your sword in the early stages of the game (Episode 3). By using this process he can forge a demon into your sword, granting you a bonus to your damage and even resistances. The Order of the demon that you fuse into the sword has little to do with what sort of resistances you get. The changes that it makes to your sword are dependant on a number of factors: 1. The higher level and more powerful the demon is, the bigger the boost that it will provide to your swords damage rating. You can get a serious boost to your swords damage from the piddling power of 12 that it starts off as to the power of 50 point. There is even a supposed way to boost your swords damage to the point o being up to a power of 100. 2. The higher the demons stats the bigger a boost it will provide to your four attributes. Usually it will only boost one stat by two points or so by certain Forgings will provide you up to a four point boost or a two or three point boost to multiple stats. 3. You can also stock demon forgings on top of each other to power up th sword more and more. One of my favorite sword combinations was fusing an Orthrus, Shouten and Oumitsunu slowly over the course of the game gave me a serious boost to power (Power: 48). 4. Depending on what the resistances of the demon demon who is forged into your sword are you will gian resistance to one type of attack. So if you fuse in a demon who nullifies damage from fire you will likely get fire resistances. It can get tricky figuring out what the resistance will be like when it's a demon who has multiple resistances or nullifications. ========================================================= 6. Items ========================================================= Raidou does all of his shopping in one place: Kunnou-Ya. The man who runs the place is something of a seedy old man who is rather a nuisance. However he has everything a Devil Summoner could need, from healing items to the various types of ammo that Raidou can use in his pistol. As you frequent his shop more and more, and spend more and more money, the old man will start to offer you a variety of things. This could be new types of items to use or even the rare discount. You get these perks by increasing your customer rank. Your Customer Rank is determined by how much you buy from him. Selling things to him has no effect on your rank. As such you should always buy as much ammo from him as possible whenever you can. Also try to keep your consumable healing items with a 5 minimum early on and at an 8 minimum later in the game. This way you are always spending money on him. Also take note that your customer rank follows you through to successive game playthroughs. This means that if you have it maxed out when you start a second cycle you will have access to all the perks from the beginning of the game. =========================== Kunnou-Ya Customer Rank =============================================================================== Rank || Required Yen Spent || Effects ========||====================||=============================================== Rank 1 || 10,000 Yen || Can now purchase Life Stones. --------||--------------------||----------------------------------------------- Rank 2 || 28,000 Yen || Can now purchase Muscle Drinks. --------||--------------------||----------------------------------------------- Rank 3 || 57,000 Yen || Can now purchase Balms of Life. --------||--------------------||----------------------------------------------- Rank 4 || 138,000 Yen || Get 10% extra Yen when selling. --------||--------------------||----------------------------------------------- Rank 5 || 236,000 Yen || Get a 10% discount when buying. --------||--------------------||----------------------------------------------- Rank 6 || 395,000 Yen || Can now purchase Chakra Drops. --------||--------------------||----------------------------------------------- Rank 7 || 598,000 Yen || Get 20% extra yen when selling instead of 10% --------||--------------------||----------------------------------------------- Rank 8 || 795,000 Yen || Get 20% discount when buying instead of 10% --------||--------------------||----------------------------------------------- Rank 9 || 1,400,000 Yen || Can now purchase Fatal Clip and Ammunition. =============================================================================== The following is a list of all the items in the game. The ones that you can buy in Kunnou-Ya's will have a price listed in the buy column. However most items in the game need to be found and, as such, come in only limited quantities. One of the major challenges of Devil Summoner lies in the management of your rather limited inventory. =============================================================================== Healing Items || The old man will then offer the Fatal clip and ammo to you as something that can be bought. This makes some of the late game fights much more manageable so work towards it. See the chart above to find out what the required amount of money spent is to reach that rank. =============================================================================== Shin-Sekai Soda Joint =========================== More than just a place to get a refreshing drink, Shin-Sekai serves a threefold purpose. First of all you can come here to speak to the patrons. All of them are aware of the Dark Realm and the fact that demons are real. Each of them will give you tips and reminders about certain aspects of the game, notably things that deal with demons. The second reason to come here is to exhange demons for MAG. While you will not likely need to do this on your first playthrough, or any Normal difficulty one for that matter, it becomes much more important on the Hard difficulty. The way that this plays out is that the shop owner will give you a certain amount of MAG determined by how high level your demon is. This can be useful if you are running low on MAG but the same effect can be achieved by fighting enemies for some time and gaining Experience while you do so. The third reason, arguably the most important, is the drinks that they offer. These aren't your run of the mill soda drinks these are mystically empowering drinks that have a number of uses. See the chart down for more information on this facet of the Soda Joint. =========================== Shin-Sekai Customer Rating =============================================================================\\ Rank || Customer Rating || Effects || ========||=================||================================================|| Rank 1 || 50 || Dragon and Mandra soda can be bought. || --------||-----------------||------------------------------------------------|| Rank 2 || 150 || Miracle Nectar can be bought. || --------||-----------------||------------------------------------------------|| Rank 3 || 300 || MAG Exchange +10% (110%). || --------||-----------------||------------------------------------------------|| Rank 4 || 600 || Muscle Nectar can be bought. || --------||-----------------||------------------------------------------------|| Rank 5 || 1,200 || Valhalla and Miracle Pop can be bought. || --------||-----------------||------------------------------------------------|| Rank 6 || 1,500 || Mag Exchange +20% (130%). || --------||-----------------||------------------------------------------------|| Rank 7 || 2,100 || Elixir and Midas Pop can be bought. || --------||-----------------||------------------------------------------------|| Rank 8 || 2,700 || Harvest Pop can be bought. || --------||-----------------||------------------------------------------------|| Rank 9 || 3,300 ||Deus Pop can be bought, Mag Exchange +20% (150%)|| =============================================================================// - Your customer rating is affected by how much Yen you spend and how much MAG Exchanging you do. It seems to be roughly 1 per 100 Yen you spend and about 1 for every 10 MAG you exchange for (so 1500 yen drinks give you 15 points and a 1,000 MAG exchange gives you 10 points). =========================== Shin-Sekai Special Sodas =========================== This is the real reason for coming to Shin-Sekai in the first place. The drinks that they offer you will have a variety of good effects, from healing you to boosting a stat of yours. Any stat boosting effects last until a New Moon comes up on the moon phase so they are quite limited in this respect. If you want to get the most of your drinks walk around outside of the Soda Place until a new moon passes. As soon as that happens run inside, get the soda you want and run for wherever you need to be. ===================================================================\\ Drink Name || Cost || Effects || =================||========||======================================|| Valhalla Soda || 800 || Raises Raidous Strength by 3. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Magical Soda || 800 || Raises Raidous Magic by 3. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Muscle Soda || 800 || Raises Raidous Vitality by 3. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Miracle Soda || 800 || Raises Raidous Luck by 3. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Doctor Soda || 800 || Restores Raidous HP (M). || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Dragon Soda || 1,000 || Raises Raidous Str. & Vit. by 3. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Mandra Soda || 1,000 || Raises Raidous Mag. & Luck by 3. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Valhalla Nectar || 2,000 || Raises Raidous Strength by 5. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Magical Nectar || 2,000 || Raises Raidous Magic by 5. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Muscle Nectar || 2,000 || Raises Raidous Vitality by 5. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Miracle Nectar || 2,000 || Raises Raidous Luck by 5. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Elixir Pop || 1,500 || Restores Raidous HP completely. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Midas Pop || 1,500 || Increases Yen dropped by enemies. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Harvest Pop || 3,000 || Increases item drops by enemies. || -----------------||--------||--------------------------------------|| Deus Pop || 3,000 || Increases all stats by 5. || ===================================================================// ********************* Hard Difficulty Note ********************* While it is of dubious use on the normal difficulty, Mag exchanging is of the utmost importance on the Hard difficulty. Due to the Mag shortages you will have to deal with it is important that you capture demons for the sole purpose of turning them in for Magnetite. You should do this whenever you have less than half the max amount you can carry. Simply snatch up a few demons from the plentiful random encounters and head of to the Soda Joint to trade them in. As a side effect this will also boost up your customer rating which will increase your Mag exchange rate bonuses and give you better sodas to use. The Midas Pop can make Hard mode much easier. ==================================================== Red and Blue Crystals ==================================================== The Crytals are the treasure chests of this game and are where you will find the majority of the items. While some will be lying on the floor, or you might need to use the Inspect command to find them, most will be in these crystals. Blue Crystals can be opened by either Raidou or one of this demons and they always contain the same items. Every playthrough the items in these will be the same, essentially these are set. Red Crystals are very different. They are mutable things that can only be opened up by demons. In addition, different types of demons will get different items out of the chests. You can tell what demons are of which type by their voices, the things they say and how they talk. I have found a few groups but the most notable are the ones who talk LlliiKE TttThhHHhhIIiiSS! Or some other rubbish like that. These ones, which include Turdak, Hitokotonusi, Ippon- Datara, Oboroguruma and Rakshasha seem to find valuable items that you can sell in Kunno-Ya for money, like the chalices and the ornaments. In addition Mokoi and Obaryion, while they do not talk like this seem to find the same sorts of items. I suggest using them to open Red Crystals unless you want healing items which is what the others usually will get. Well that or Sake but the Sake is useless. ========================================================= 7. Walkthrough ========================================================= Now to the meat and potatoes of this FAQ, the Episode by Episode walkthrough itself. As you play through each section of the game you will come across a variety of quests, called Events in this game. These will grant you some really awesome rewards or show you extra parts of the storyline. There is a heck of a lot to this game and money is hard to come by so never pass up any rewards. ==================================================== 7.1 - Prologue ==================================================== The Prologue is essentially one giant training mission. Simply head in the direction that the game wants you to move (theres only one way to go) and you will get into a fight with two zombies after a primer. You will fight all types of zombies throughout the game and due to their slow speed they are rarely any real threat. Simply use your three hit combo to kill these two and move on. Now is as good a time to establish one core facet about this game, you can not (I repeat can not) capture any type of undead enemy so don't even bother trying. In the second fight you will be instructed to learn how to use the thrusting attack and the spin move. With these attacks it is even easier to kill them, so do so and head on towards the next fight. You will likely gain a level at this point. Move on and you will be given a lesson in confining demons. If you want to make your life simple get into the habit of injuring the demons before you try to capture them. Use Ice bullets and sword strikes to weaken the Ukobach before you try to capture it. Once you're ready run over to it and suck that bad boy into a confinement tube. Now you have a demon familiar. This next fight will be you and your new Ukobach versus a bunch of zombies. They are all weak vs. Fire so you will have little to no problem wiping out the lot of them. You will likely get your first chance to see just how much damage you can do to a weakened enemy. Both you and your Ukobach will gain a level when this fight ends, this will allow your demon to use its combination skill. Move past the next ghost and get into the next fight with the zombies. Exploit their weakness and then you will get to see how much damage your combo attack can really do. The final challenge in this section will have you fighting off your first boss who is something of a pushover. Okiko-Mushi are weak against fire but she has a pretty mean ice attack. To make this fight simple as can be get rid of one of the zombies and then command your Ukobach (from the R1 menu) to target her with its fire attacks. Beat on her until you can do your combo attack and then shoot her with that. If she is still alive she wont be for long. Finish her off to complete this section and become Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th. Some storyline sequences will play. After you speak to Kaya it is time for a storyline battle. This fight will work out the same way no matter what happens and you will not get any Experience even if you "win" the fight. Essentially this is really just a test of how much damage you can do to these two soldiers even this early in the game. If you refuse to lose then it is suggested that you get good with blocking, their melee attacks can knock you out in two hits and the gunner will cut you to pieces if you aren't careful. The fight will end either when you reduce one soldiers health to 25% or if they take you out. Either way, once this battle is over it is time for prologue to end. ==================================================== 7.2 - Episode 1: The Missing Girl ==================================================== Tsukudo-Cho =================== Time to start up the detective work. Head out of the Detective Agency and you will be stopped by Detective Kazama. Talk to him and you will be given your first chance to use your demons investigation skills. Summon Ukobach to follow you around on the world map via the R1 menu and then use the Ignite command on Kazama. He will tell you why he is lingering around outside the Agency. ******* Event - Raidou's Pay - As soon as you finish chatting with Detective Kazama go right back into the Detective Agency. Narumi will give you 1,000 Yen to play around with. There is nothing to really do with it just yet but it will come in handy all the same. ******* Now you will need to make your way towards the Daidouji residence. Before you do that you may want to head towards Kunnou-Ya and check in on the things you can buy there as well as checking out the Gouma-Den. You might also want to run around and capture an Alp as soon as possible. Her ability to Read Minds will be somewhat useful when talking to people around the city. Also, there are a few items scattered around the city, just lying on the floor. There's no reason to move forward with the game until you have gotten used to the game a bit more, this mystery won't solve itself. ******* Event - Marital Difficulties - Head south along the street towards Kunnou-Ya after completing event 1. You will meet a woman who talks about how men need more meat on their bones. Use the Ignite command on her and she will give you the Ox Bezoar. Later, whe you are near the Ushigome-Gaeri bridge, head to the east and you will meet a man who wants the Ox Bezoar. If you are curious why use the Read Mind skill to find out (Alp should have it) and you will discover he has some... male problems. Give him the Ox Bezoar and he will give you 2,000 Yen as a thanks. ******* To actually reach the Daidouji mansion you will need some directions if you plan to find your way there. Make your way towards Kamishiro-Zaka, the street that runs from the bridge, past the Tamonten Shrine and exits to the north. If you talk to the gossiping woman she will allude to some sort of family curse in the Daidouji line. However the person of importance here is the guy with the bike outside of the shrine. He will explain to you that you simply need to head north up the street to reach the Daidouji mansion. Head that way, leave the area and head to the mansion when you reach the world map. =================== Daidouji Mansion =================== Now that you are inside of the mansion head on over to the butler and show him the Butterfly Brooch, he won't help you otherwise. You will get to meet the surrogate master of the house Kiyoshi Daidouji and have a chat with him. Once that is done you can explore the mansion for some items and shake down the staff for some flavor information. Once that is done you will need to explore Master Daidouji's study. Since Nakamura the butler won't let you through you will need to come up with something else. Gouto will suggest you use a demon since humans cannot see demons. Pick your Ukobach and send him through the door, down the hallway and into the rearmost room (the storage room has some use later). The demon will find a photograph of Kaya here and return to you. Head on out of here and return to Tsukudo-Cho. =================== Tsukudo-Cho =================== Take your photo and go find the school girls that the old man was perving on before. Talk to them and show them the picture and, in standard RPG form, they will direct you to talk to someone else. Apparently Kaya had a friend she spoke to often so time to find her. The girl, Rin, is located in the alley from the main street that leads towards Kunnou-Ya. You really can't miss her, just look for the other girl in the purple school girl outfit. Your soon to be conversation gets interrupted by her poofing into thin air. Gouto will explain what just happened and explain to you that it is time to head to the Nameless Shrine. Head towards the Ushigome-Gaeri Bridge and exit the map there. Once on the city map you can search around for some treasure lying around but then head for the red circle, that is how you use the streetcar. Head to Shinoda from there. Enter the Nameless Shrine and head for the altar. You can chat with the two statues if you like, save your game and then ring the bell to call the Herald of Yatagarasu. Ask her to send you to the Dark Realm via the Ritual of Entry. =================== Dark Tsukudo-Cho =================== Once you appear in the Dark Realm you will have some zombies to take out so have your Ukobach at the ready and wipe them out. Start heading north from here to find the person... demon rather, who has snatched Rin here. While you are moving around this area try to capture a Frost Azumi and Volt Agathion. There is a treasure to the east of the bridge that requires you to have a demon with the Fly skill to reach. You cannot complete this area with a Volt demon but you might as well get the Azumi to have as many elements as possible. ******* Event - Bug Collecting - You will need to be in Dark Tsukudo-Cho to start up this quest. Once you are there head into the alley on the west side of the street north of the bridge and you will meet an Agathion who talks about collecting bugs. Now retreat back to the real world and go back to Tsukudo-Cho. Send a demon on a solo investigation towards the Sweets Shop and Fujiko Parlor located across from Kunnou-Ya, near the mouth of the alleyway. The demon will retrieve some Syrup from one and some Ice Cream from the other. Now head to the nameless shrine and use the Ice Cream on the large tree near the save point. Wait until the full moon and check it to find a Beetle. Now place the Syrup on it to find a Stag Beetle. With those in hand get back to Dark Tsukudo-Cho and talk to the Agathion. He will give you two items to sell at Kunnou-Ya's, totaling near 30,000 Yen as your reward for this quest. ******* When you head far enough north you will be stopped by your first of many Dragon's Jaws. These nuisances are impassable walls that you cannot get past by any means, requiring you to find an alternate route around. To go around the wall successfully head through the alleyway towards Kunnou-Ya, searching it for items and finding another Dragon's Jaw. Once you reach Kunnou-Ya run towards the Detective Agency and fight off the three Obaryion (they're weak against Ice and Force). Now head up the alley right near the Detective Agency. In the small dead end to the right you will find Nakisawame. This friendly spirit is really depressing (cry, cry, cry all the time) but she will heal your wounds for a fairly exhorbant price. Do not pay for it, if you are hell bent on paying for healing wait until you can use Victor instead. Head through the alley and you will find yourself in a fight with an Electric Shikimi no Kage. It will be guarded by Azumi so get rid of them and then let your Agathion wipe out the Shikimi. Head out onto the street to find Rin's kidnapper and get ready to beat his six legged behind. ** Tip: To make this fight easy you may want to make sure that your Azumi has leveled up at least once. This will give her the Freeze Shot combination skill which makes this next fight super easy. ------------------- Boss Fight: Tsuchigumo x3 --------- Tsuchigumo - Resist Electricity, Weak vs. Ice, Weak vs. Force --------- - While they are fairly powerful the Tsuchigumo are weak to ice, meaning that if you took my advice and captured an Azumi you should little problem here. Use your ice bullets to weaken them while you send the Azumi to battle one on its own. You should be able to take them out quickly so long as you go after them one by one, weakening them with ice bullets and then destroying them with your sword. You cannot capture them since this is a boss fight so don't even try. The Freeze Shot combination skill is an absolute killer here. ------------------- After the fight is over head through the portal nearby to get yourself and Rin back to the normal realm. You will need to calm her down by assuring her that everything is just fine. Once she is better she will tell you some odd things, so you might want to go check on the Daidouji manor again. Don't forget her clue as it will be necessary to proceed (or just keep reading the walkthrough). While in town you can restock at Kunnou-Ya, visit Victor, save your game at the Agency and chat with townsfolk to gain some more flavor information. Whenever you are done head to the mansion. =================== Daidouji Mansion =================== You can talk to the servants here again and, with the help of some proper... convincing, you can get some information from them. The woman will need to be bought off but the man in the hallway can be threatened all subtle like to the same effect. You need to head through the northern door along the west side of the main hall on the first floor. Go through the hallway (the man who you can get info from is in here). Inspect the first room for items and the second room is where you need to be. Search the area and Gouto will suggest you look closer, so take out your Agathion and use Inspect. Your attention will be drawn to the books on the shelf, pick up the book titled "Demons and this Earth" as Rins' clue tipped you off to. The secret passage will open up when you do this. Head into it. You will now be in the Daidouji mansion basement near a save point. You can find a very useful Pyro Jack down here, a replacement for your Ukobach, so you might wish to spend some time capturing demons. Head across the bridges and take the item from the crystal here. Now head north and leave this area, you'll end up outside on the city map. Grab the Soma Drop and head back inside. You will meet a very large turtle looking demon called the Tarrasque. He will not let you across the river unless you get him some Red Wine (apparently he acts as a raft). You have no choice but to get the Red Wine for him. Head back upstairs and talk to the Irritated Servant, she was the one griping about the new servant being late. She tells you that another servant went into Tsukudo- Cho to get some Red Wine for guests. You will need to head to Tsukudo-Cho but before you do search the mansion if you haven't done so already. In one of the upper rooms you will find Pricey Beer on the floor, grab it up and keep it with you. It will come in handy soon. Head for Tsukudo-Cho and you will see a maid standing by on the street. Go talk to her and then have a Pagan demon use Read Mind on her (Alp again). Now ask her if she is all right. She will be grateful enough to give you the Red Wine and go to goof off in Fujiko Parlor. Now head back to the Tarrasque and give him the Red Wine. Of course this prompts him to attack you. ------------------- Event Fight: Tarrasque --------- Azumi - Null Ice, Weak vs Fire Tarrasque - Null Death, Resist Ice, Weak vs. Fire --------- - This isn't a real boss fight per se but it's still pretty tough if you are not properly prepared. The Tarrasque and his Azumi friends are all Frost type demons so grab your Fire Order demon and your fire bullets. Get rid of the Azumi and focus entirely on him. He has a powerful melee attack but the real threat here is that he can heal himself, that is bad. What you really need to do is get him somewhat injured, hit him with a fire spell and then beat the living daylights out of him. Once he has lost most of his health he will give up the fight and surrender. ------------------- After you beat him up he will complain about being thirsty and want the Pricey Beer you found upstairs. Give it to him and, while he will loathe the taste of it (Us young'uns don't know whats good for us) he will still take you across the river to another area. Open the blue crystal and send a flying demon to get to the elevated one. Up ahead you will find what looks like a hidden jail cell. Do not examine this room until Pyro Jack has learned the Fire Spin Combination skill. Otherwise what follows will be harder than it needs to be. Experience grind here until you have leveled him up and get the skill. Now go into the small jail cell and use Inspect. You will find a book that ends up being Kayas' dictionary. After you read it it's time to head on out of here. As you try to leave you will be jumped by three enemies. ------------------- Event Fight: Gashadokuro, Turdak x2 --------- Turdak - Weak vs. Fire, Weak vs. Force Gashadokuro - Null Death, Drain Ice, Weak vs. Fire, Weak vs. Force --------- - This fight is really hard if you aren't prepared for it properly. You will need fire bullets and your Pyro Jack. Keep on stunning the enemies with the attacks and hitting them with your sword while weakened. They have a pretty remarkable amount of Hit Points and they don't take much damage from melee type attacks so you will need to weaken them. Once you have the ability to do the Fire Spin combination attack use it while attempting to hit at least two of the enemies. This will seriously damage them and bring the fight to a quicker end. ------------------- When you beat them continue along your way to the main hall. Save your game at the save point and head upstairs. You will hear snippets of a converstaion between Kiyoshi and another man. The butler will stop you from going over there to listen in more so send a demon over to listen in. Now get out of here and go talk to Narumi at the Agency. Once you have finished chatting with Narumi head back to talk to Kiyoshi. ******* Event - Catnip Crazed Gouto - After you have talked to Narumi about your findings at the Daidouji mansion you will have to head back there to talk to Kiyoshi. Rather than doing that, send Raidou down the path that your demon took earlier to find Kaya's photo. If you search the storeroom Gouto will start to freak out. Pick up the Foxtail (which is basically catnip) and he will stop. What you need to do is collect nine Foxtails and Gouto will give you a reward of a Bead of Life, Great Chakra and a Soma. You will have until chapter 11 to complete this event so don't get too stressed about it. Keep your eyes open for Foxtails you will find inside of blue crystals. You can also find them by defeating Nekomata demons, these will start being an enemy you can encounter in Episode Five, in Kasumidai. This quest does not have to be completed any time soon, either. You will have until early in Episode 11 to complete it so don't bother stressing over it until you are nearing the end of Episode 10. ******* Go talk to Kiyoshi in the living room to watch a really strange cutscene. You will end up in the Dark Realm when all is said and done. When you move to go after him you will be in for a boss fight. ------------------- Boss Fight: Ichimokuren --------- Turdak - Weak vs. Fire, Weak vs. Force Ichimokuren - Null Fire, Null Death, Weak vs. Electricity --------- - This guy is a fair pain in the butt due to how you have to fight him in two stages. The first stage involves it floating there with its eye closed and then summoning in two Turdaks. These guys are vulnerable to fire but they pack some serious punch behind their attacks. Keep your distance and kill them off via fire bullets and sword strikes. Make sure your demon stays nearby or they will kill it on you rather fast. Once the Turdaks die it will open its eye and start to execute a fairly strong spin attack. This is your chance to wound it, shoot it with electric bullets and let your Volt demon open up on it with Zio spells. While it's Weak from the electricity beat on it with thrusts or combo attacks to hurt it some. After a bit it will resummon the Turdaks, get rid of them the same way as you did before and keep attacking it. When it gets low on HP (around 30% or so) it will summon in more Turdaks but it will keep its eye open and start spamming its spin attack. Ignore its two minions and focus on the boss. When he finally dies this Episode is over. ------------------- Episode clear! ==================================================== 7.3 - Episode 2: The Red Cape ==================================================== Alrighty now we are getting into the thick of things, slowly but steadily. Tae will come around bothering Narumi and you for some help, lucky you. Now that you are free from the storyline for a bit, it is time to get to Kunnou-Ya and the Gouma Den. Make it a point to come here at the beginning of every single new Episode since Kunnou-Ya will have stocked new types of ammo and clips for you to pick up. Also, fusing demons at the beginning of a new Episode can help you get through said Episode by giving you more powerful demons so always keep on the lookout for good fusions. Now head on out of the city towards the bridge and get to the streetcar. Take a trip over to Hongo and go pick up items that are just lying around there. Once you have gotten them all head back onto the streetcar and ride it to Ginza-Cho. You will be told about the Shin-Sekai Soda Joint as soon as you get to that portion of the map. Go check it out before you do anything else, it's a nifty little place. =================== Ginza-Cho =================== Make your way to Ginza-Cho proper once you are all ready. As you should on all new maps, make sure to search the area for items and new demons. Ignore the underpass for now and take some of the side exits from Ginza-Cho to find some items on the city map. ******* Event - A Bum's Ransom - Underneath the overpass, in the construction area, you will find a homeless man standing in the corner. When you talk to him he will talk a fair bit of nonsense but if you Read Mind him you will learn that he is holding something. Ask him about it and he will try to convince you to buy it for 50,000 Yen. Yeah even if you have the money it would be a waste, tell him no. When you turn him down he will have a change of heart and offer it to you for 50,000 Yen. If you have the Lucky Charm, it will effect events a bit later on. You will get a couple of free jugs of "Shishiou" Sake when you finish this episode. This is a good way to get some money. ******* Whenever you're ready to proceed forward take the road that goes through the underpass and keep heading that way. A woman will stop you to ask you a few questions before she heads off. Once shes gone exit the map and head for the Ryugu Resturant. Talk to the Owner of Ryugu, a woman dressed in a green kimono. Show her the photograph of the Red Cape that Tae gave you and then ask all of the available questions about Kiyoshi and Denpachi, the rickshaw runner. You will be pointed in the direction of Fukagawa-Cho, another 800 Yen streetcar trip it seems. Get back to the streetcar station and ride on over to Fukagawa-Cho. =================== Fukagawa-Cho =================== ******* Event - Amazing Science Labs - As soon as Fukagawa-Cho becomes available on the map you should head right for the Amazing Science Labs. Apparently they're trying to build some sort of high tech device there. You can chat with the people but come ready with a Volt Order demon. Run around and use the Inspect skill to find some items, namely a Wood Ornament and St Incense. Also while you are here make sure to use the Read Mind command on the dog that is locked in the cage. He will explain his sad story to you and then ask you if you have a dream. You will then be asked to name said dream, go ahead and do so but make sure you keep a note of what it was somewhere. It will come into play right before the final battle of the game and it gives you a really nice boost right when you could most ask for it. ******* Head on into Fukagawa-Cho and you will be stopped by two people, punks under the employ of the local Yakuza it seems. When asked tell them that you are looking for someone and they will send you into Daikoku-Ya, the bath house. As soon as you go inside you will be stripped of your clothes and weapons and two thugs will pick a fight with you. You can do a simple punch combo and these dorks aren't really that much of a threat. Move on in and start beatign on them until they go down. If you see them wind up for an attack simply block and then counterattack until they go down for the count. Once they are down you can talk to their boss, a man by the name of Satake. Satake, unlike his cronies, is a fairly friendly fellow and he will offer to help you out if you need someone found. Since he is being so helpful he will point you in the direction of Denpachi, apparently he lives on the east side of Fukagawa-Cho. However once you go over there you will be captured by two of the red guards and punted into the Dark Realm. You will break out and have to fight two Zombie Guards, these guys are pushovers. Take out fire order bullets, or a demon with a fire spell, and beat them down. Heck, Triglav can handle them by himself if you let him. Once they are gone talk to the man in the cell. The door is locked and you will need to figure out some way to open it. You will need to find something to open the door so head to the portal and get back to the mortal realm. Head back to Tsukudo-Cho and go back to Kunnou-Ya and he will offer to sell you a lock pick for 2,000 Yen. Agree to it, restock on items and head out. Do NOT head back to Dark Fukagawa-Cho just yet, instead head towards the Daidouji mansion. Go to the upstairs level and begin to open the doors that were locked with the lock pick. You should find some items worth keeping here. Of special note is the bottle of Vodka you will find. ******* Event - An Old Demons Addiction - With the bottle of Vodka in hand head back down to the Daidouji basement to talk to the Tarrasque. Give him the vodka and he will, in exchange, take Raidou to a small island with some treasure on it. You will find a Soma Drop and a Lu Incense in blue crystals here. ******* Once you have done that head to the Nameless Shrine and use the Ritual of Entry to head back to Dark Fukagawa-Cho. =================== Dark Fukagawa-Cho =================== Once you get into Dark Fukagawa-Cho head to the south, to find a couple of blue crystals with items. Head to the east and you will find a red crystal, the items in these crystals are determined by the type of demon that opens it. Some demons will get valuables they can sell while others will find two or three Life Stones and other such healing items. I prefer to get the valuables so I use Mokoi's to open these crystals. When you head across the bridge you will notice that there are guards blocking the way. Gouto will not want you to get into a scuffle with them, forcing you to take a very particular path. Head south until you reach the river. Send out a demon with the Fly skill to head up the river (make sure it is someone high enough level to fight). Stop off at the second pier as there is an item to be picked up but your actual target is the third pier. Go to the east and unlock the gate across from Proferssor Mokoi. Go through the newly opened door and go into the river. There is a boat in the river, bring this back to Raidou. Get onto the boat and take it to the very last pier. Get off and head north until you find a Bullet Shikimi no Kage. It will have some Tsuchigumo guarding it but since it is weak versus bullets you can ignore them and just shoot it to death really fast. No sweat here. Continue going north until you reach another door to get past, open it up and you will be in the area you started off in. Go to the door and unlock it to free the man. You will be attacked by two of the special guard which is some bad news. ------------------- Event Battle - Special Guard ??? --------- Special Guard - N/A --------- - These guys are really bad news, especially at this point in the game. One will come after you in melee and the other will use a machine gun. If the melee one catches you off guard he can do some serious damage but the most dangerous one is the gunner. He can cut your health down incredibly fast if you aren't blocking when he fires his gun. Sadly the most effective weapon at your current disposal will be your sword, nothing else does too much damage to them. The best way to handle this fight is to have a Triglav with you. He is fully immune to bullets and very resistant to physical attacks so he can stand up to these two pretty well. Once you have that in hand all you really need to do is focus on using your gun to stagger the melee enemy and then pound on him. Have Triglav use the Winged Fury skill on the gunner to keep him occupied until you have killed off the melee soldier. As soon as the melee soldier has kicked the can you can now turn your full attention to the gunner. Wait for him to get down into position to fire his gun at you and then move to get behind him. Once you are sure that he isn't going to be hitting you unload on him with a few combos. If you and Triglav continue to beat on him he will be done for sooner than you can say "Shazbot!" ------------------- Free the man, revealed to be Denpachi, and you two will return to the mortal realm. He will be of no help to you unless you find his runaway sister, Shizu. I love how you rescue him from the a realm full of demons and he still has the audacity to demand something from you to help you out... punk he is. =================== Fukagawa-Cho =================== Go back to the bath house to talk to Satake and ask him about Shizu. Turns out that she is working in the Red Light District as an... entertainer to pay for her boyfriend in the hospital because she wouldn't ask her brother for help. I love how this girl thinks. Anyways head on over to the Red Light District and she will be right there to chat with you. Talk to her and she wants you to find her boyfriends attacker... I hate people. Leave by the farthest exit and check the city map for items before you head back to Narumi and save the game. Head to the Shin Sekai Soda Joint and chat with Tae about what you have learned thus far (that is to say, nothing). Turns out that strange accidents are going on during full moons at Ginza-Cho. Seems as good a place to start as any so go on over to Ginza-Cho and head to the construction underpass. Keep running about down there until a full moon occurs. You will end up in a fight with a demon car and its driver, collectively called the Oboroguruma. ------------------- Event Battle - Oboroguruma --------- Oboroguruma - Null Gun, Drain Electricity, Weak vs. Ice --------- - This guy isn't really all that big of a deal. He is immune to your bullets and he can do some pretty bad damage but he is weak to ice. When he attacks you he uses a pretty wicked three hit combo where he rams you and spins the car around. Not only does this hurt but he can hit you with it repeatedly rather fast and kill you off. Make sure that you block the attack when you see it coming and let your ice demon attack him. When he is rendered vulnerable from an ice attack begin to beat on him until he recovers and then go back to playing it safe again. Just repeat this until he dies, he isn't that big of a deal. As a note, after you beat him you can fuse him at the Gouma Den. Once you are high enough level to control him I suggest you make him. He is a powerful Volt based demon who tends to get valuables from the red crytals. ------------------- The Oboroguruma will give you a Rickshaw Knob after the fight, essentially saying he didn't mean to hurt you, he was looking for the guy that hurt him. It seems that whoever it is that hurt Shizu's husband may have been responsible for the creation of this demon. You would think that you could talk to Denpachi about the Rickshaw knob but he isn't at his house (of course). You need to find someone who might know where he is so go chat with Shizu in the Red Light District. She will have no clue as to where he might be either. ***** Event update - If you bought the Lucky Charm from the bum earlier Shizu will ask for it. Give it to her, it works out in your favor soon enough. ***** Our last person who might have seen Denpachi is the owner of Ryugu Resturant so make your way over there. When you chat to her you will be given the clue to head back over to Ginza-Cho. As you head to the underpass you will see the Red Cape but he will poof into the Dark Realm before you get the chance to confront him. Make your way back to Nameless Shrine and have the Herald send you to Dark Ginza-Cho to chase him. =================== Dark Ginza-Cho =================== Head down the street to your right and you will see an Oni that will tell you that the Red Cape is upstairs on the overpass. Go up there and pick a fight with him. Don't really stress over this fight he will flee shortly after the fight starts. Once the fight ends he will sprint off down the stairs. Follow him down the stairs and go over to the parked car. Talk to the demon there and then examine the car. Now hunt for the Red Cape again and after this fight the little Poltergeist demon should run off. Once the little guy has run off go over and have one of your Fury demons use the Use Force investigation skill on the parked car. This will knock the car in the gap between the stairs and the building, locking the Red Cape into the underpass area. Now that he cannot run away from you time to go beat him down. Gouto will warn you before you enter the fight, letting you know that this is going to be a tough fight. ------------------- Boss Battle - Red Cape --------- Red Cape - Null Death, Resists Fire --------- - This guy is more of a pain than he really has any right to be. Not only is he very strong but he is incredibly fast and can easily move out of the way of your thrust attacks. In addition to all of that he can teleport around the battlefield on you. He only has two attacks to start with but one of them is a doozy. The first a move where he makes his cape stab you, nothing big here. It is easy enough to see coming, when he kneels down he is going to try the move so simply block. The other is a bit more annoying and he will usually attempt to hit you with it after he has teleported. This move, the Doubt / Frustration beam does some pretty nasty damage and will sometimes cause a status ailment in you and your demon (Doubt seems to cause panic and frustration seems to cause rage). Once he has lost about a third or so of his health he will start to use an attack where his flames ripple out from him (Anger Blast), this causes some pretty bad damage especially to any ice demons. He isn't really all that hard to battle at first. All you need to do is summon in a more melee oriented demon and let them start to beat on him along with you. Use your normal bullets to stagger him and then beat on him a bit, repeating this as possible. You should whittle his health down pretty quickly. It is imperative that you not let him hit you too much since he can do really wicked damage with his beam or the Anger Blast. Once you get him down to about 40% of his health he will start to use a new ability called Justification. This will heal him for a fair amount of his HP every time he does it so it is very important that whenever you hurt him you start to stagger him with your gun. Otherwise this fight is going to take forever to finally end it. It might help if you summon in an Orthrus who will take no damage from the Anger Blast and have it begin to beat the Red Capes blue face in. ------------------- After you beat him down the scenes that follow will depend on whether or not you have given Shizu the Lucky Charm. If you have then you will get some free jugs of Sake, if not then you are missing out. Episode clear! ==================================================== 7.4 - Episode 3: Dark Summoner ==================================================== Well it seems we might have some sort of idea on where we need to go to find Kiyoshi finally. Luckily for you Kunnou-Ya and the Gouma Den will have some new stuff to make your detective work a bit easier. Go check them out and then get on your way. Make your way to the Daidouji mansion and go talk to Nakamura, the butler. Tell him what's going on and he will give you Cuff Links to give to Kiyoshi. Search the mansion if you already haven't and then you can leave. ******* Event - Everyone Loves Tofu - Before leaving Tsukudo-Cho for the Daidouji Factory head on over to the main street (the one that runs from the bridge past the Tamonten Shrine). Along the left side of the street is a Tofu Resturant, opposite Fujiko Parlor. If you examine it you will read a sign that says that they are closed. Send a demon on over to it and it will snatch up some Tofu. Take that piece of Tofu to the Nameless Shrine and go talk to the Inari statue on the right. He will take the Tofu and tell you about the various Training Halls located across the Capital. Not only that but he will also tell you how to get into the Training Hall in the Nameless Shrine. These are some great areas to get some treasure and experience. ******* Now head on out and take a streetcar over to Fukagawa-Cho and head to the east and then the north. A security guard used to block the way here but now you can get to the factory. Head on inside. =================== Daidouji Factory =================== As soon as you walk inside of the factory you will find a cane on the floor, it is Kiyoshi's. Pick it up and head further inside. After a little conversation Tae will be passed out and there will be six floating dolls. Ignore them for now and head into the east door to find some items and head into the western door to find a save point. Once that is done you will need to enter into a complex maze called the Matrix Labyrinth to retrieve the three shards that will allow you access to Kiyoshi. While the Labyrinth isn't all that complex it depends on how you enter it. There is a simple way to get through it, listed below. * Go to the the first doll along the right side. * Head south and the west to find a worker. Respond: Go! Leave this to me! * Go east twice to find the second worker. Respond: How about a stiff drink? * Go north, then east to find the third worker. Respond: Run, or you're going to die! * Head south to find a Fire Shikimi no Kage. It will have two Jack Frosts with it so it helps to come into the fight with a demon who has fire spells but no weakness to ice. A custom creature can do wonders here or simply kill off the Jack Frosts and then go after it. * Continue south to find the Blue Shard. You will have to fight off a whole bunch of Okiku-Mushi to actually get your hands on it though. ------------------- Event Battle - Okiku-Mushi Horde --------- Okiku-Mushi (Small) - Drain Electricity, Null Death, Weak vs. Fire Okiku-Mushi (Large) - Drain Electricity, Null Death, Weak vs. Fire --------- - You will have to fight off a small army of these demons in this fight. Not really, it's three of the regular ones and three econmy sized boss Okiku-Mushi. This fight is pretty bad if you do not have plenty of Anti-Minds since these pains in the butt use plenty of charm spells. They are all vulnerable to fire so an Orthrus is ideal here. The three big ones are somewhat problematic however. They do not always suffer a weakness reaction to fire spells and bullets, it seems to happen one in three or four successful hits so keep at it. Persistance will pay off here but you have to keep your distance and fight carefully. ------------------- * Head north and east, killing off the Ice Shikimi no Kage in your way. It is protected by two Oshichi so knock them off and then kill of the Shikimi no Kage with ice spells. By now the Shikimi no Kage fights should pose little to no real threat to yourself. * Keep going east until you see a white series of circles floating in the air. These will teleport you back to the factory. * Save the game and then go the second doll on the left. * Go east to find a Tainted Gate. Send a demon through it to get the item off of the floor. * Head west until you find yourself stuck in a fight with a Red Cape. This one is a pushover compared to the boss fight you had in the last chapter. Take out your gun and your strongest demon and beat on him. He will not survive as long as the boss one did. * Keep on going west until you find the next shard (Yellow I believe), lying on the ground. I will put the fight information here as well for ease of use. He is nothing to worry about, the two Lady Zombies that protect him are super easy to get rid of so take him out at your leisure. * Go south, then west to find the fourth worker. Respond: Calm down! * Make your way west to find the last worker. Respond: Don't give up! * Make your way west, taking out the bullet Shikimi no Kage. It is guarded by two Mokoi who can be pretty dangerous thanks to their Might Blow ability. Use fire bullets and spells to take them out and then use your gun to take out the Shikimi no Kage. * Head west and you will find the last shard. This is the last fight with the Okiku-Mushi, so let's do this once more with feeling. It is protected by two Oni's, these guys are weak against electricity but they are also the first demons who make liberal use of the blocking ability which will negate your weaknesses. You are probably better off acting as a human distraction while your minion takes out the Shikimi no Kage. * Go east three times and then north and you should find the exit. Now that you are out of the Matrix Labyrinth you should go save your game. Whenever you are ready head for the sealed door to the north and go on in. You will get an interesting little cutscene with Kiyoshi and a red thing before you have a boss fight. ------------------- Boss Fight: Chernobog --------- False Chernobog - Drain Ice, Null Death, Weak vs. Fire Chernobog - Vulnerable to Fire (extra damage, no weakness), Drain Ice --------- - Although he looks, and acts, pretty fearsome Chernobog is actually something of a pushover. All he really has going for him is a fairly strong sword thrust attack and a few moderately strong ice attacks. He starts off as a bunch of fairly weak illusions, coming at you one then two and finally up to three at a time. However they aren't that big of a threat, simply use fire bullets to get them weakened and beat on them. They die prettyy fast all things considered. If he is actually causing you any problems come into this fight with a ice demon forged into your sword to resist ice so that you take less damage from the various attacks that he will throw down. Another idea is to bring something like a Pyro Jack who has a ranged fire attack and stand in front of him and block for him. This way you can harm the Chernobogs without actually having to let your demon get hurt in return. Like I said, compared to the Red Cape this guy is a serious pushover. ------------------- Episode clear! ==================================================== 7.5 - Episode 4: The Case of the Missing Shipments ==================================================== Do not even bother going to Kunnou-Ya's for the duration of this Episode, he will be charging double for anything you might want to buy. To start with take the streetcar over to Harumi-Cho and make your way to the right towards the pier. Chat with the owner of Ryuga who is standing around and then head back to Narumi for a little talk. He will point you towards Satake so go chat with him and then head back to Harumi-Cho. Talk to the owner of Ryuga again and another shipment will poof. Talk to her and the owner of Konnou-Ya before you head to the Namless Shrine and make your way to Dark Harumi-Cho. =================== Dark Harumi-Cho =================== As soon as you enter the Dark Realm you will run into a sailor who is being attacked by Anzu demons. This is something of an event battle that you will have to go through two more times but the basic strategy is the same. Get out your electricity bullets and open up on them. You will have to fight about eight or nine of them but they aren't too difficult. ******* Event - A Fine Thank You - After you save each sailor use the Read Mind skill on them. If you do this they will hand over a reward, each one giving you a different one. One gives you a Medicine, another a Jin Dan and the last will give you a Wood Ornament. ******* Go across the bridge and you will see a ladder leading downwards. Take it and get out your Frost-Order demon. Use the cool down command on the water in the reservoir to form a walkway. Head across the ice and up the other ladder. Time to rescue the second sailor from some Anzu, so get rid of them and then head back across the ice. Continue along the path in front of you and you will find the third sailor being attacked by Anzu demons. Defeat them and you will have freed all of the sailors. Now it's time to find the demon responsible for the kidnapping of these men in the first place. Save your game and head towards the pier that the owner of Ryuga was standing near to start a fight. ------------------- Event Battle - Triglavs --------- Triglav - Resist Physical, Null Gun, Weak vs. Force --------- - Fighting this group of enemies is a serious pain in the rear. Not only are they really powerful but they are immune to bullets and really resistant to all physical attacks. The worst part of this fight is their spells; they have the Petra skill, which can turn you to stone, and the Winged Fury skill, where they throw their sword at you and knock you on your butt. If you see the horse rear and they look like they are around to throw the sword you have to block. You could find yourself dead if they hit you with this attack. The only way to handle this fight without tearing out your own hair is to summon a wind demon and command them to use their Zan skill on one particular Triglav. Single one out and beat on it until it dies but keep your eyes open for any of their attacks, as I said they can kill you really fast if you aren't keeping your eyes open. ------------------- Now is a good time to search the entirety of Dark Harumi-Cho. There are a small number of blue and red crystals to be gotten, some past a Tainted Gate so send out a demon you can trust not to die on you (I like Oboroguruma for this purpose). Make your way to the portal just north of the pier and you will come out next to the owner of Ryuga. Talk to her and she will give you the Ring of Memories along with an explanation of how to get to the Church to see her brothers business partner. More importantly the prices in Kunnou-Ya will no longer be as inflated so you can go restock and pick up ammo, clips, etc. There is no real way to get to the Catholic Church so you need to find some sort of transport. Gouto will mention that you already know of a means of transport so get to Daidouji manor and visit the Tarrasque in the basement. You will have to negotiate with him to get him to agree to act as your boat. Here are the answers you need to give him: * Agree to talk about his fee. * Agree to pay him 100 Yen. * Agree to pay him 300 Yen more. * Agree to pay him 500 Yen more. * Agree to pay him 1,000 Yen more. * Agree to pay him 1,000 Yen more. * Decline to pay the additional 1,000 Yen he requests. * Scold him. Once you successfully get through this (if you fail the negotiations you have to start from the beginning) he will agree to serve as your transport, the Flute of Rhone. You can use this from the aqua blue circles on the map to travel to other blue circles on the map. You can actually travel through almost any waterway, even if it looks like there is a road or bridge in your way you can likely travel through that way. A huge portion of the world has now been opened up to you so go around all the parts of the map you can travel to. You will be able to find several of the hidden Training Halls (only one that you can enter now) and a goodly number of items that can be found on the city map. ******* Event - Perverted Demon - Make your way to the aqua blue circle in the middle of the Fukagawa-Cho city map. Get off there and enter and you will see a man peeping into a house on a wife who is home alone. Use the allure skill and he will get so worked up that he turns into his true form, an Oni. He will give you a Soma so long as you promise to not tell anyone about seeing him. ******* Disembark at the northmost Harumi-Cho pier (the one below it will actually drop you off at the pier in Harumi-Cho). You can go to the church if you like but it is empty at the moment so go past it and up the road. After a bit you will end up in the Foreign Cemetary. A green spirit will be standing over a grave, looking down at it. Talk to the ghost and chat with him, making sure to show him the Ring of Memories. That's an interesting turn of events. Head to the church again and search the confessional to hear some bits of an odd conversation. Once that is done it will be time for a boss fight. ------------------- Boss Fight - Rasputin --------- Rasputin - Null Gun and Death, Weak vs. Electricity Matryoshkas - All are vulnerable to Gun --------- - This fight is a heck of a lot easier than it might initially appear to be. When the fight starts Raspution will jump into one of the Matryoshkas and taunt you. The Matryoshkas are easily enough destroyed though and they are a fair amount of the problems in the early parts of this fight. They are easily taken out by Raidou's pistol, especially if you have any heavy bullets. Ignore Rasputin for the early part of the fight, blocking his attacks (most of which are short range) and kill off all the Matroyashka. Initially he will use a Mabufu type attack where he is surrounded by a swirl of ice that does a fair amount of damage. This can be easily blocked and you can counter attack him when it's done. He has a fairly powerful melee strike as well. Lastly he has a triple ice ball attack that has a rather wide spread on it and does a good amount of damage. Blocking would be a very good idea when he starts using this. Once they are all dead summon a demon with an electrical attack. I used Oboroguruma but he took a beating from the ice attacks so you might want to pick one without an ice vulnerability. Whenever he is vulnerable feel free to pound on him with all you have. Part of the benefit of destroying all of his Matroyashka is that he will stop to summon them at a later point, usually one at a time. As he does this summoning he will be vulnerable so hit him with everything you've got (except for bullets, he's immune to that). When you have done enough damage he will start to use two new attacks. The first is Megido and it is bad news. It does a decent amount of damage and you can't block it so when he starts to cast it get the heck out of the way. While not as damaging, Trailing Death can be just as dangerous since it leaves you paralyzed for a fair amount of time. Block it to negate the paralyze effect. Once you get the hang of it Rasputin should go down without much difficulty. ------------------- Episode clear! ==================================================== 7.6 - Episode 5: Confrontation ==================================================== Well, it seems that Tae has managed to dig her way into yet more trouble. Seems that she has found someone willing to act as an informant on the armies recent activities but being caught with a traitor is bad news so you should be going with her of course. Make your usual stop offs at Kunnou-Ya's and the Gouma Den before you head that towards Kasumidai. =================== Kasumidai =================== Once you make your way to Kasumidai itself Take will ask you to look around for her contact since he isn't where he was supposed to meet her. She will tell you that she doesn't know what he looks like but that he has a mole on his face. As you walk around you will hear talk about there being a soldier who has gone AWOL (Absent WithOut Leave) and that security has been tightened up because of this. This also means that Tae could be in trouble. Before you do anything to advance the story you might want to search the area for items and new demons. The Feng Huang located here are fairly useful. Talking to the guards in the area will reveal that the soldier with a mole used to stand watch near the guardhouse, which is located to the north. The guards will turn you back thanks to the heightened security. Head to the west and talk to the guards over here who will mention that the cannon you passed on your way here is used to signal the changing of guard shifts and that you had better not touch it. Like we're really going to listen to that, doesn't he know how RPGs are played?Head on over to it and use the Ignite skill on the cannon, this will result in the soldiers thinking their shift is over and leaving the way towards the guardhouse open to your inspection. When you head over to the guard and look him over, turns out that he isn't the guard you are looking for and he is actually looking for him as well. Head back to Tae at this point since your search has turned up nothing, although you may want to search the immediate area for any more items. Heading back to Tae you will see that she is gone, with her camera on the ground as the only indication she was even there. A reporter who left behind her camera? Yeah, she's probably in trouble. Pick up the camera and head back to Tsukudo-Cho and look for Narumi. He will be standing outside of Kunnou-Ya if you haven't already run across him. At his suggestion go check out Kunnou-Ya and ask the owner to develop the film in the camera. He will do so for 3,000 Yen and you will get the Photo of Tae. Seems that all those worries about her safety were well founded as she has ended up in the Dark Realm. Head on over to the Nameless Shrine and head to Dark Kasumidai to find Tae. ********* Warning: You will need a demon with the Sneak skill for this area, so it is a good idea to get an Obaryion from the Gouma Den Demon Compendium. ********* =================== Dark Kasumidai =================== As soon as you arrive you should see Tae and a soldier in the distance. Head that way and you will end up in a fight with Zombie Officers. While these guys are a bit stronger than regular zombies, and their guns pack something of a whallop, they are still easy. Just use fire ammo and spells to weaken them and they will go down quickly enough. Now head over to the passed out Tae and the soldier, a funny looking fellow by the name of Sadakichi. It seems that he ran all over the place when he ended up in the Dark Realm and dropped his report on the armies top-secret project. Time to have to find the pages. To make your life easier there are two Zombies soldiers nearby who will give you tips on where to find the eight pages and a floating skull that will tell you how many you have collected. To make your job easier, I have listed all the locations below: Page 1: Can be found on the ground near the cannon. It doesn't shine to the naked eye but you can pick it up if you walk over it. If you are having some problems finding it, use Inspect. Page 2: It is located in front of the Army base. Use Inspect near the Jack Frost to reveal its location. Page 3: Head on near the two Zombie soldiers who give you tips and search the bushes. Once again, use Inspect if having problems finding it. Page 4: Go behind the guard house in front of the Army base, it is found back there. You will know you are in the right position when the camera angle changes to show you the back view of it. Page 5: Head to the east towards the Supreme Court. There are two holes in the bushes here but they are too small for you to get through. You will need to send a demon with the Sneak skill through. Unfortunately there are no demons who have the Sneak skill in this area so if you didn't get one before coming to this place you will have to go back and get one. Page 6: Head to the left from the army base, towards the Okinunushi statue that overlooks the cannon. You will need to send a demon flying over the barricade in your path. The page is located right near the statue, use Inspect if you are having trouble seeing it. Page 7: In the upper right most portion of the area, near the junction of the Army base and the Supreme Court there is a tree. Examine it and you will be prompted to send a demon who can Fly up there to get it. Do so. Page 8: The zombies cannot remember what happened to this page and will ask you to stimulate their brains for them. Use either Ignite or Cool Down to help them remember. It seems that a group of "renegade" Zombies, a large one at that, has taken the page. You will need to defeat them to get it. This isn't that hard of a fight so don't worry about it. Once you have all eight of the pages make your way over to a save point and save your game, what follows can be a bit tough. When you finally head back to Sadakichi you will have to fight the demon who is responsible for him and Tae being here, Nebiros. ------------------- Event Battle - Nebiros Nebiros - Null Physical, Weak vs. Force Undead Zombie Officer - Weak vs. Fire --------- - You will have to fight Nebiros and some Undead Zombie Officers here, which is no walk in the park if you aren't prepared. Nebiros is fully immune to your sword as well as status ailments and death spells. In addition he has a fairly strong melee combo attack with his puppet, blocks fairly often and he has the Mudo skill, which can halve your HP in one shot. It is of extreme importance that you block the Mudo attack when you see it coming, it appears as a pulsing blue and black energy attack if you haven't identified it yet. The trick here is to get the Undead Zombie Officers out of the way. Use some fire bullets to weaken them and then take them out with your sword. While you are doing this you should have a demon with force spells, preferably ranged, attacking Nebiros to keep him busy. Once the Zombies are gone, turn to Nebiros and pull out your heavy bullets and take him out. Part of the reason you will want to get rid of the zombies is so that you don't waste the heavy bullets on them by accident. ------------------- Once the battle is over Sadakichi will give you the passcode to the Cannon Battery #4, located on an island. The code will bring cause the phone booth to bring you down to the Subterranean Shipbuilding Facility. ***The Code is: 4-9-3-9-9-2-2-1 Leave the Dark Realm and head for Kunnou-Ya's to restock, do any fusions you might like in the Gouma Den and then head out. ********* Note - As a general warning you will need to negotiate with a demon soon. He will want you to fork over 150 MAG and a random item or two. Two out of three times I spoke to him he asked for two Chakra Chips, so make sure you have two of these to spare before going into the Facility. ********* Take the Tarrasque to the small island near Harumi-Cho and get off. You will be in a suspicious looking area with a phone booth. Go inside and use the code to be brought down to the Shipbuilding Facility. =================== Subterranean Shipbuilding Facility =================== This place is pretty much a straight line with a little deviation. However it is much simpler than the Matrix Labyrinth so no worries. Head straight and you will coem across a Fire Shikimi no Kage with some Nekomata guarding it. This fight is fairly simple, just use electricity to get rid of the Nekomata and let your demon take out the Shikimi no Kage. You will come across an Ice Shikimi no Kage soon enough, guarded by two Ikusa. I hate fighting these Ikusa because they will spam their Winged Fury attack where they fling their spears at you over and over. Like the Nekomata they are vulnerable to Electricity so make sure to use that to take them out before you turn your attention to the Shikimi no Kage. Keep on going until you come face to face with an Electric Shikimi no Kage. It will be guarded by some Undead Zombie Officers which aren't that big of a deal by this point. Handle the Shikimi no Kage however you like but a surprise waits for you. Once you have destroyed the thing it will spawn right back into place. Seems like you can't just bust it down, you need to find some other means of getting rid of it. Head down the stairs nearby and you will find an Ippon-Datara who is bragging about being the maker of the respawning wall. You will have to negotiate with him, like you did the Tarrasque, to get him to get rid of that obnoxious wall blocking your path. This one is a lot quicker, and simpler, than the previous one. All you really need to do is give him 150 MAG and whatever item he asks for, usually two Chakra Chips. Then he will ask what you think of him, make sure to tell him that you think he's stupid. For some reason that is what he wants to her as it is the right answer. Odd little fellow he is... In either case he will remove the Shikimi no Kage from your path. Now head forward, taking a detour up the nearby ladder to find a blue crystals just waiting to be plundered. Head down the stairway and you will have to cut your way through three Bullet Shikimi no Kage. The first has some Ippon-Datara guarding it, they are weak versus Ice so make use of that to get rid of them. The second has Utai-Gaikotsu, the giant floating skulls. These guys are weak versus physical and force based attacks but they have the tendency to spam Petra attacks so get rid of them as quickly as possible. Lastly the third one is guarded by Feng Huang who are weak vs. Death magics so exploit that to get rid of the last of them. If you are in pretty bad shape you may want to use Nakisawame here, it costs a good amount of Yen but it might be worth it to ensure your survival in the upcoming boss fight. Head down to the stairs to the save point but before you save open the last of the blue crystals and then save. Now head up the stairs to confront the mastermind of all of this, Munakata, and a boss fight. A fairly hard boss fight at that. ------------------- Boss Battle - Nagasunehiko and Abihiko - Nagasunehiko - Resists Ice, Weak vs. Fire - Abihiko - Resists Fire, Weak vs. Ice --------- - To anyone who has played Devil May Cry 3, this fight can be likened to the Agni and Rudra fight of that game. You will have to fight two brothers who are basically color palette swaps of each other, each with an opposing elemental weakness and they have a few really nasty surprises in store for you. The basics of the fight work as this: Naga and Abi will teleport and float around the battlefield throwing off elemental spells. Typically it will be a three way spread elemental blast, but sometimes it will be more focused attacks of their element. They also have a melee strike but it is pretty negligable. Now the major threat comes from how they respond to one dying; when one is killed the other will absorb his spirit. While he will still have the weakness and resistance he had before he will no longer fall into a weakened state. This is bad news so what you have to do is get both of their healths down fairly low and then try to kill them both within a short time of each other. Simply enough come into the fight with a demon of each element. Pick one of the brothers to go after first, I chose Abihiko since I had stronger ice spells at the time. Distract the other brother with your fire bullets while you let your demon keep attacking Abihiko. Make sure that when he gets weakened you go ahead and pound on him. It helps if you have an offensive combo attack since that can cut down on Abihikos health really fast. Once you deal enough damage to them the brothers will have a little talk and decide to use their special move on you, Amatobi. For this attack the two will join forces and start spinning all around the battlefield. Return your demon to its tube or it will probabaly die to this attack. The way it works is that they will fly towards you two or three times at a quick speed and then try to follow you around, hoping to ram into you. To dodge it simply run side to side until they fly past you and then simply keep running around the area in circles. They will miss you on each pass and eventually they will stop. Now return to hitting Abihiko until his health is at about 25% or so. Turn your attention to Nagasunehiko and start hitting him, summoning in a fire Order demon to help you out. Eventually they will use Amatobi again, it works the exact same way so don't stress over it. Just unsummon your demon and wait it out. Once you have managed to get Nagasunehiko down to the same health as Abi had (which might be a bit lower now thanks to stray bullets) kill off whoever seems to have the most health. Once the first is dead turn to the other and hit him with everything you've got. He will go down soon enough. ------------------- Episode clear! ==================================================== 7.7 - Episode 6: Secret of the Five Fudou ==================================================== This is a really quick mission that involves a lot of running around and not much in the ways of fighting (beyond random encounters). It's Episodes like this one that make you feel like an actual detective, eh? In either case it's something of a breather after the monsters that were the last few missions. As soon as the Episode starts head over to Kunnou-Ya and pick up Narumi's package. Chat with Kaya when you get back and then head back to Kunnou-Ya. He will tell you to go to Victor, who in turn gives you the name Irie Fudou. You may want to pick up a couple of Repulse Waters before you go any further, this mission involves lots of running around. Now leave from here and head on over to Satake in the bath house. He will tell you to head over to the Amazing Science Lab, located to the south east on the Fukagawa-Cho city map. The Doc here will give you some information on the object but he still has no real concrete info on how to find it. Now you need to make your way over to the Shin-Sekai Soda Join to find Tae. Proving just how useful she is she tells you that something similar to what you're describing was found at the construction site in Ginza-Cho. Head on over there and go to the underpass and walk over to Kaya. Now head to the left and you will start a cutscene. Yeah... that was totally unexpected and left me quite confused. Good work Atlus, good work. Episode clear! ==================================================== 7.8 - Episode 7: The Cursed Detective ==================================================== This is a fairly short chapter and it is something of a detour from the rest of the storyline. As soon as this episode starts you will be dragged off to the Nameless Shrine. You will be forced to act as a sacrifice, taking the Navy Admirals curse upon himself (to anyone interested, the Admiral is thought to be Isoroku Yamamoto, google it). You will be punted into the Dark Realm and turned an interesting white color as the curse takes hold of you. ------------------- Special Status Effect: Cursed - During the course of this chapter you will be under the effects of this one time only status ailment. While you are suffering from this status ailment you will suffer damage at the change of each moon phase. In addition any healing spells, or items, used on you will not heal you as much. ------------------- ======================== Dark Fukawa-Cho ======================== Head towards the southern portion of town, towards the docks (where you used the boat to move before). You will be caught by a pair of obnoxiously dumb Utai-Gaikotsu. They will taunt you and just generally act like little pains in the rear. Keep trying to go south repeatedly regardless of this. Eventually the dumb demons will tell you where the Seal Talisman that is stopping you can be found. Head over to the red post box near the save point to the north. Use the Inspect command to find it and then tear it up. This will cause the two stupid demons to attack. ------------------- Event Battle: Utai-Gaikotsu x2, Turdak x2 --------- Utai-Gaikotsu - Turdak - --------- - This fight would be difficult if every single creature in the field wasn't weak versus force attacks. If you have a Wind demon instruct them to go after the Utai-Gaikotsu first since they have the obnoxious Petra skill which can get you and your demons killed really fast. Try to eliminate those two as fast as possible and then turn your attention to the Turdaks. This fight really is not that big of a deal. ------------------- Now that they are out of the way head back to the south and follow the road. You will come across a Wind Shikimi no Kage with a Triglav escort. You will have to block often to handle the Triglavs but you can make your life easier by telling your demon to go after the Shikimi while you distract the Triglavs. Make sure to block so as to avoid them knocking you down repeatedly. As soon as you take it out you will have to take out a Bullet Shikimi no Kage right behind it. This one has some Nues with it but you are better off just ignoring them. Get right into the Shikimi no Kages' face and start shooting it with your normal bullets until it dies. Lastly there is an Electric Shikimi no Kage directly on your path to fight the boss. You might want to save and do a side event before doing that though. ******* Event - Freeing the Chicken lady - Head east past the save point and you will find a Tainted Gate right next to Professor Mokoi. Send a Frost demon through because you will encounter a Frost Shikimi no Kage. It is guarded by two Gdon who are pretty freaking tough. You may want to use a custom demon who is immune to fire and has an ice attack. Regardless you are best off taking out the two Gdon and then going after the Shikimi no Kage. Now have your Frost demon report to Raidou and summon a Pyro Order demon. Send him down the path and he will encounter a Fire Shikimi no Kage with two more Gdon. You should be able to ignore the Gdon and pummel the Shikimi until it gives up the ghost. You can either have the Pyro demon report to Raidou and summon out a demon with strong physical attacks or simply have the Pyro go after the next Shikimi no Kage, a Physical one. This one is guarded by two Thoth demons who are fully immune to almost all types of magic so don't even bother trying that. Beat them with regular strikes or, to make this easier, use physical skills. Then take down the Shikimi no Kage. Now head past them and through the barred door. You will find an Oshichi who was trapped by the barriers. She gives you a Muscle Drink and a Great Chakra for your troubles. ******* Time to take on that Electric Shikimi no Kage. This one has Undead Zombie Officers with him who are actually fairly strong. While they aren't a major threat they can do some decent damage with their guns. Your best bet is to go after them and keep them busy while your demon goes after the Shikimi no Kage. Once this is out of the way it's time for a boss battle. ------------------- Boss Battle: Hitokotonusi --------- Hitokotonusi (Normal) - Drain Force, Null Death, Weak vs. Fire Hitokotonusi (Anzu) - Drain Force, Null Death, Weak vs. Electricity Hitokotonusi (Orthrus) - Drain Force, Null Death, Weak vs. Ice Hitokotonusi (Poltergeist) - Drain Force, Mostly Null Gun, Weak vs. Physical --------- - This guy is a serious pain in the behind. He will change into a variety of different forms over the course of the fight, starting off in his first form and going to forms reminescent of other demons you have encountered before. Each of his forms has different abilities but they share one in common, one he will use over and over; his wind breath attack. To make things in this fight much easier you should summon a demon who is immune to force, if you have one who heals from it that's even better. To make this fight easier on your sanity your demon should have some sort of healing spell. If he doesn't this will be a little harder but still manageable. From here all you need to do is make sure you don't die and that you keep going after his weak spots which change by form. The best way to handle his force breath attack for Raidou is to block through the entire duration of the attack and then start attacking again when it stops. As a note he has a lot of Hit Points and they are shared between all his forms. Each form roughly has about one-fourth of the total hit points of the creature. Initially he will start off in his regular form and spam force type attacks, expect to see his force breath attack often. His weakness in this form is fire so make sure to attack him with fire bullets or spells and beat on him when he is weakened. After he takes enough damage he will then switch over to an Anzu- looking form, his weakness shifts to electricity. At this point he will start throwing off random elemental spells in addition to the force breath attack. Do your best to block his spells and then to stun him with electricity bullets and spells. Keep hitting him until he switches forms again. Hitokotonusi will now switch to a form that looks like a leafy Orthrus. Now his vulnerability will switch over to ice, so start blasting it with ice spells and/or bullets before you continue to pound on him. Finally as his health gets close to empty he will switch to a form that is reminescent of a poltergeist. Your gun will be useless in this portion of the fight so get a creature that has a physical based attack spell to keep exploiting his weakness. Continue to attack him until his health finally empties and he gives up the ghost. Congrats on beating one of the harder bosses. ------------------- Episode clear! The curse is clear. ==================================================== 7.9 - Episode 8: The Demon and the Steel Tower ==================================================== This isn't really a very long Episode but it is most definitely one of the harder Episodes in the game. You need to make your way to Harumi-Cho by the army base via the street car. Go to Harumi-Cho and take the path the soldier was blocking off before (it's the middle blue dot if you are riding the Tarrasque). The soldier will move and you can head towards the radio tower. As soon as you come into the area you will have a pretty straight run to the tower if you head north. However make sure to search the area first to find any items that are lying around. When you are done head towards the radio tower and talk to the tower inspector. He is obviously hiding something so use Read Mind on him and then you will have a pretty good idea of how you have to get into the tower; the Dark Realm. Head to the Nameless Shrine and head towards Dark Harumi-Cho. ======================== Dark Harumi-Cho ======================== As soon as you arrive there you will be attacked by three Super Soldiers, the Yomi-Kugutsu (the name is interesting as it seems to translate to demon puppet or something like that). ------------------- Event Battle: Yomi-Kugutsu x3 - This fight is a pain in the butt since each of these guys comes ready with a different weapon. One will go into melee with you (and he hits HARD), one has a small machine gun that fires rapidly but doesn't do much damage and the other one carries a huge machine gun that can do a lot of damage. Your sword doesn't do the most amount of damage to them so the best thing to do is to let your demon do the work for you. You need to block their attacks or you will take too much damage much too quickly for you to survive. Retaliate with your gun to stagger them and that should give your demon enough time to hurt them. If you have the Triglav demon with you he is resistant to physical attacks and immune to the bullets of the gunners his Winged Fury skill will do some serious damage here. It is essential that you fight carefully here or these guys are going to take you out. ------------------- Now that they are out of the way you can save your game and heal up before you head for the radio tower. ******* Event - Spirit Worship - Make your way to the shrine at the south end of the area and head over to the shrine. Leave a 1,000 Yen offering at the shrine and a ghost will appear calling himself a god. He will give you a Muscle Drink for your trouble. If you give less than 1,000 Yen he will do nothing but if you give 1,000 Yen more than once he will basically laugh at you. ******* ======================== Waden One Tower ======================== Now that you are in Waden One it is time to get down to business. For the most part this is a straight path to begin with. Just head forward until you reach a path where you can see a few red crystals sitting on an island by themself. Send a demon onto one of the platforms solo and they can get the items from the crystals before they return to you. Eventually you will find a platform that brings you up to the Waden One - Mid floor. Follow that path and you will encounter a group of Hiruko. Wipe them out by using cold attacks, Raja Naga works wonders but ice bullets will do fine. Just past them is a puzzle involving platforms and solo demon investigations... Lots of fun. ********************** First Hiruko Puzzle ********************** You will have two Hiruko, one to your north and one to your east. The east one is a trap so dont use it, it will take you back to the previous floor. Here is how to get to the treasure: * Take the northern one with Raidou and you will be on a small platform with a Raja Naga you can talk to. * Now take the eastern platform across to a ledge with a red crystal. Grab the item from the crystal. * Now have your summoned demon use the ledge you came here on. This will take it over to a ledge where there is a red and blue crystal. * Use the platform to return to Raidou. * Now have Raidou use the platform to return to the ledge with the Raja Naga. * Have the demon get on the platform and take it to the ledge to the southeast with the lone red crystal on it. Grab the item (ignore the soutwestern platform since its another trap). * Ride the northwestern platform and it will take you back to Raidou. * Now have Raidou take this last platform to the large ledge to the northeast. * From here simply take the platform that was attached to this ledge and it will bring you to the end of this maze. This path will take you to a platform that brings you to a higher level. Once you are up here head forward and you will encounter another group of Hiruko. This is the same as the fight you had just before, use ice bullets or bufu type spells to get rid of them. Now its time for another Hiruko platform based puzzle, yay! ********************** Second Hiruko Puzzle ********************** * Have Raidou take the western ledge up to where the Moh Shuvuu is. * Now have the demon take the ledge back to the previous area. * Take the eastern lift to a ledge with a Thoth on it, rocking himself. The eastern platform is a trap, so ignore it. * Now have your take the northern lift. Grab the item from the blue crystal and ignore the northern lift, its yet another trapped platform. * Have the demon take the western lift to a small ledge. * Now take the soutern lift to the small ledge with a winged Moh Shuvuu on it. * Using Raidou take the northern platform to get back to the small ledge. * Take the northern platform again to reach the end of this area. * Now send your demon back on the platform you just used to get to the last red crystal. All done! Use the save point and take heed of Gouto's warnings. Head up the path when you are ready for a boss fight. Ride the platform up to reach the apex of the tower and a cutscene, the boss fight will follow when it ends. ------------------- Boss Fight: Mishaguji --------- Mishaguji - Null Gun, Null Electricity, Null Death, Weak vs. Ice --------- - Let's get a few things out of the way here. Your gun's ineffective, electric attacks are useless and wind attacks do little to no damage. By and large you really have no business trying to fight him toe to toe. He has three really powerful attacks, all of which can really ruin your day. If he spits out a Cursed Emission attack at you, run for your life. You cannot block it and it will stun you for far too long. His spear combo can do some serious damage and he has a serious right hook. If you see him start to wind up you MUST block or you will get knocked on your butt and take a heck of a lot of damage. As if all this wasn't bad enough he can also teleport around the battlefield... great. The only way to beat Mishaguji is to summon an demon with a ranged ice spell and let it pummel him with spells. Make no effort to attack him until your demon has managed to leave him weakened. Run in and hit him with a combo while he is vulnerable and then back up. Keep on repeating this, not moving in unless the demon has rendered him weak. If you do you will likely get beaten down faster than you would think possible. One thing will complicate this otherwise simple, but hard as hell, fight. When he has taken enough damage he will start to use a new attack called Cursed Bolt. This is a line of four lightning bolts that streak across the screen. Not only does it do a fair amount of damage but it will charm anyone it hits. It is not that hard to handle for Raidou, either move around it to one side or simply block it. However if it hits your demon you are in trouble. Either use an Anti- Mind item to end the effect or return the creature to its tube when you see the attack coming. If your demon has a healing spell and it gets charmed it will heal him about 1,300 HP with a single Dia spell. That is way too much healing and it could seriously be a problem. If you have an demon who has no healing spells then use them, it's less of a threat to your chances of success. ------------------- Episode complete! ==================================================== 7.10 - Episode 9: The Two Summoners ==================================================== As soon as you head away from the bridge you will see a black cat run off down the street. Ignore it for now and run around town picking up all the newly respawned items. You can also head to Kunnou-Ya to replenish your ammunition but you cannot return to the Detective Agency for amusing reasons. There is a rather odd scene that you can see between Rin and Kaya but it doesn't really do anything for you to see it (it is located in the alleys near the Agency if you are curious). When you are done head on over to the Tamonten Shrine. Watch the rather... odd cutscene that will follow and you will wind up at the Nameless Shrine with the Herald explaining that there is indeed a way to send you back home. You don't really have a choice but to do as she says so start going after the three prism pieces you need to acquire. The quests will be listed in the order of easiest to hardest although this will vary by interpretation depending on what demons you are fond of using. All of the places you are going to will be rather quick runs to the exit so don't fret too much over this. ======================================= Dark Ginza-cho ======================================= As soon as you appear start to head straight up the street you are on. A Pyro demon named Muspell will attack you. He is no harder than any other demons you have fought thus far and isn't really even an event fight or anything, he is that much of a pushover. Knock him and his Throne companions around and then save your game. Now head towards the central entrance to the construction site. Take out a Fury-Order demon and have him knock it out of the way with a Use Force command. You're not out of the woods yet, there is a Tainted Gate blocking your path here. Take out a Fury demon who isn't weak to fire and send him through and around the path until he fights another Muspell. My Triglav beat the loving crud out of him. Once the pushover is gone use the Use Force command once again on the trolley. Raidou will move to your demons side to report to him and use the path he opened. Make your way towards the top of the overpass and prepare for a boss fight. ------------------- Boss Fight: Susano-O --------- Obaryion - Null Death, Weak vs. Ice, Weak vs. Force Pyro Jack - Weak vs. Ice Susano-O - Resist Physical, Drain Fire, Null Death, Weak vs. Ice --------- - This game would have you believe that Susano-O is a Fury Order demon, these are flat out lies. Even if he is technically a Fury Order demon he is in every other way a Pyro demon: He will spam close range fire attacks, he is vulnerable to ice in a seriously bad way and he is totally immune to fire spells. The only thing that marks him as a Fury demon is his sword throw attack which is some seriously bad news. If you get hit with this you will be knocked down and left in a world of hurt, always stop and block this attack when you see it coming. Surrounding him will be Obariyons and Pyro Jacks that will infinitely come back no matter how many of them you kill so ignore them. If you have a demon like Chernobog who has an ice attack but no weakness to fire use them. The Pyro Jacks' will beat on anyone with a fire vulnerability. The best way to handle this fight is to let your demon hit Susano-O with an ice spell and then beat on it with your sword. Keep an eye on your demons HP since the Obaryion Combo skill can do a lot of damage rather quickly to them. So long as you stay on your feet and avoid that boomerang sword throw you shouldn't have much in the ways of problems here. ------------------- Once you have defeated the boss and gotten his piece of the prism you will be sent back to the Nameless Shrine. Pick a new destination. ======================================= Dark Sakuradayama ======================================= When you arrive in Dark Sakuradayama your first order of business should be to save the game. Next head towards the shrine to the right from the save point to find a puzzle. Once you complete the puzzle you will have to fight a boss so be ready. ------------------- Sacred Stone Puzzle - This puzzle seems a bit harder than it actually is, you just need to learn what stone ignites what other stones. Trial and error can very easily solve this one for you but the answer is provided just below for ease of use. * Hit the stone on the bottom left, it ignites no others. * Hit the stone on the top left, it ignites the top and bottom right stones. * Send your demon out solo to hit the center right stone, this ignites the center left stone. Puzzle completed! ------------------- Once you complete the puzzle you will be challenged by Oumitsunu. This fight is some really bad news so make sure you save before you do it. ------------------- Boss Battle - Oumitsunu --------- Ippon-Datara - Drain Death, Weak vs. Electricity Raiju- Resist Physical, Null Mind ** They do not seem to be weak to Force! Oumitsunu - Resist Physical, Highly Resistant to Death, Drain Electricity, Weak vs. Force --------- - Oumitsunu is a serious powerhouse in the physical arena and his magic skills aren't exactly a feathers touch either. But that isn't what makes this fight so ungodly hard, it is his minions. The Ippon-Datara aren't that big of a deal but the Raiju are seriously bad news. They all throw around the death skill, Mudo, which can halve your HP in one shot (you or your demon). When they hit you with this one a single melee combo from Oumitsunu can kill you off so be very, very careful and block when you see the attack coming. You can also mitigate how bad the Mudo spell effects you by Forging your sword so that it has a resistance to Death spells. The easiest way to handle this fight is to pull out a demon that can heal you and go straight for Oumitsunu, ignoring his demons. If you hit him with a force bullet attack he will be weakened which is your oppurtunity to open up on him with your sword. He goes down pretty fast, especially compared to some of the other bosses, so this shouldn't take too long. Just be mindful of your HP and don't let them get too low. ------------------- You will be punted back to the Nameless Shrine once again so it is time to hit up the last prism piece. ======================================= Dark Harumi-cho ======================================= As soon as you appear in Harumi-Cho talk to the Shouten, the large elephant looking demon. He will tell you that he can bring you to Orochi in exchange for eight Purity Charms. No sweat, this is a piece of cake. Save your game and then start running around looking for fights, the Shouten enemies drop the Purity Charms so get to killing them. ------------------- Event - Demons like Demons - There are a number of demons you can make trades with here if you have the right items and your demon does the talking. None of these demons like humans so they won't do anything good for you, have a solo demon talk to them. First is the Scathach in front of the resturant. She will offer to sell you a Purity Charm for 20,000 Yen if Raidou talks to her, but she will go down to 1,000 Yen if a demon does the talking. Next is a Jack Frost near the pier, he will give your demon a Bead of Life for free. Last is the Feng Huang that is located past the church. He will give you a "Kotetsu" Sake if you give him a Dainty Snack. I don't know where to find them, my demon brought one back from a Scouting mission at one point so that was where I had mine from. ------------------- Once you have all eight of the Purity Charms go ahead and talk to the Shouten. He will show you where Orochi is lairing (no he will not be there until the elephant brings you there). Save your game and then fight the big guy. ------------------- Boss Fight - Orochi - Orochi is really powerful and the demons that he comes with don't really make it much easier. He basically sits still and throws off spells that effect the area around him however he is also immune to bullets. Well not really immune to them, they heal him nearly 10x more than the damage they would do, so the end result is don't use your gun. To make this fight a lot easier you should bring a Triglav into it. I had a basic Triglav I caught in the streets and he worked just fine. He is immune to ice magic, resists physical attacks and can do some serious damage. Order him to go after Orochi with his skills while you sneak in shots every now and then when you are positive that he isn't paying attention to you. Some people have mentioned that you can fuse a Triglav who has a Zio skill, exploiting the Orochi's weakness. I have never successfully done this but if it could be done you could exploit the Orochi's weak time to pound on him yet more so it might be worth experimenting. Update: The fusion to create them is a Nue and Okuninushi. ------------------- You will be dragged back to the Nameless Shrine to complete this mission. Raido will help you get back to your own time, so c'est la vie! Episode clear! ==================================================== 7.11 - Episode 10: The Capital in Flames ==================================================== Seems like everything is nice and tense thanks to the recent actions of the Army, soldiers everywhere and a generally nasty atmosphere pervade the capital. At the Detective Agency you will find a strange letter from Narumi. Take the train from the Tsukudo-Cho to Harumi-Cho and go to the naval headquarters. You will see Sadakichi standing around, talk to him to find out about the second entrance to the Subterranean Shipbuilding Facility. ******* Event - Free Streetcar Rides! - After reading Narumis letter head on over to Dark Ginza-Cho. You will see a Nue sitting on the streetcorner to your right as soon as you arrive. Chat him up and he will hand over a Streetcar pass to you. You can now ride the street- cars for free. What this means is that you can now use the R1 menu option to return to the Detective Agency for an easy trip back to Tsukudo-Cho and not owe any money for it. Sweet! ******* Head back to the Detective Agency and you will meet up with Rasputin. He will give you two orbs and explain to you some more about the second entrance to the facility. Apparently it's in Kasunimori which, if you really explored the map, you might have found it located to the north of Kasumidai. If you haven't been there head out onto the world map and get off on the bottom right most pier on the city map, its just southwest of the Cannon Battery #4. Head along that path, it's a fairly long road you will be on but simply follow it and you will reach Kasunimori. ******* Event - Spider Senses, Tingling! - Return to Harumi-Cho at some point during this mission and look for a man standing near the bridge. He will mention to you that his neck itches and he wonders if he is possessed. Go to the Nameless Shrine and head to Dark Harumi- Cho. There will be a Hiruko in the area where he is standing so head on over to it and get into a fight. Defeat it like you defeated the others and then return to regular Harumi-Cho. Go talk to the man and he will walk off leaaving behind a Lu Incense ******* Once you reach Kasunimori you will have to solve a little puzzle, it isn't all that hard though. * Stick the Blue Shiomitsu Orb into the fish statue that has the blue stone. * Stick the Red Chigaeshi Orb into the fish statue that has a red stone. * The red statue is going to be stuck. To solve this summon a Fury-Order demon and use the Use Force command to push it. * Walk over onto one of the pressure panels, you should hear a click. * While you are on the one panel send a demon oer to stand on the other one. The well will drain of water and you can now head down into the Subterranean Shipbuilding Facility, second entrance. ======================================= Subterranean Shipbuilding Facility ======================================= You will travel through a rather long underground railroad tunnel to find this place. Seems as if that's how they were moving supplies into here. Head to the left and get into a fight with the Fire Shikimi no Kage. The Shikimi has two Undead Zombie Guards with him so you should be easily able to take out the lot of them with one fire wielding demon and some bullets. There is a ladder here but you should ignore it. Go to the ledge and hop down off of it. You are going to have to do this a few times in here, there are some blue crystals you cannot get to without using these ledges. Once you jump down you will be asked to jump left or right, go left. Grab the items and then head to the north. You will have to fight an Electric Shikimi no Kage and a couple of Ouyamatsumi. They are vulnerable to fire and force so weaken them before you unload on them, they're remarkably resistant to physical attacks otherwise. Now take out the Shikimi no Kage at your leisure. Head down the stairs and you will come across a sleeping Arahabaki. Time to fight to get it outta the way. ------------------- Event Battle - Arahabaki & Friends --------- Sleepy Arahabaki - Null Fire, Null Ice, Null Elec, Null Force, Null Death, Drain Mind, Weak vs. Physical Arahabaki - Null Fire, Null Ice, Null Elec, Null Force, Null Death, Drain Mind, Weak vs. Physical Ouyamatsumi - Null Death, Resist Physical, Resist Ice, Weak vs. Fire, Weak vs. Force Nue - Resist Force, Weak vs. Fire --------- - This fight starts off with you just fighting the one sleepy Arahabaki. She's not that difficult but she will keep going to sleep if you let her so keep on attacking her. While she is asleep she will heal back her HP and MP since she is afflicting herself with the status ailment. Kill her and it will start the new enemies coming in. The Arahabaki can easily be defeated if you have a Triglav who can use the Winged Fury skill on her. If he keeps hitting her with it she will die out fast enough where you can worry about the other two. The Nue and Ouyamatsumi are both really powerful foes but they will not be any match for fire bullets and spells coming their way since they are both weak to it. ------------------- Head towards the Tainted Gate past the Arahabaki and Gouto will tell you that Raidou needs to pass through the barrier, not a demon since Munakata is on the other side. Head back all the way to the save point, grabbing up the items from the crystas you pass along the way. Save your game and head north, taking out the Ice Shikimi no Kage as you do so. Ignore the stairs and look for another ledge you can jump off of. Leap from it and then hop off to the right. Grab the item and then hop down to the bottom floor to grab yet more items. Now start making your way back up, going up the ladder to do so. You will come across a wind Shikimi no Kage with some Yomi- Kugutsu guarding it. The Yomi-Kugutsu have no actual weaknesses so you will have to do this the old fashioned way. Triglav is of great help here since he resists physical attacks and is immune to guns. Use your gun to keep them from attacking you too often and take them out. Once they're all dead you can talk to the Ippon-Datara that is standing around. Convince him to destroy the Tainted Gate and he will take you there to destroy it. He leaves behind a Soma when he runs off like a lunatic. Go down the stairs and grab the item from the crystal before attacking the Bullet Shikimi no Kage. There will be two more Yomi-Kugutsu guarding this Shikimi no Kage so you will have to take them out carefully. After destroying the Bullet Shikimi no Kage make sure to take the staircase that is nearby to find a blue crystal. Now go back up the stairs and take the ladder down to find Narumi (you can also talk to Nakisawame to heal if you need it). Now head up the stairs but do not walk onto the Altar just yet. There are three blue crystals on the side of the platform so grab that and then use the save point. Head up onto the Altar to start a boss fight. ------------------- Event Battle - Sukuna-Hikona --------- Sukuna-Hikona - Resist Physical, Resist Mind, Null Death, Null Gun, Weak vs. Fire, Weak vs. Ice, Weak vs. Electricity, Weak vs. Force --------- - While not the hardest enemy in the game this guy is most definitely the most frustrating one. Since he resists both your sword and your gun you really can't do all that much damage to him and he does a pretty large amount of damage with his attacks. He isn't so bad at first though. To defeat Sukuna-Hikona you will have to exploit his four weaknesses. He has these so that you can hit him with elemental spells even when he takes out one of your demons. Hit him with one of the elemental spells and then open up on him with your sword. You will not really do all that much damage but you can get some decent damage in if you are quick enough. What really makes this fight so obnoxious is what he starts doing when you get him down to around 60% health. He will fire off a blast that will dizzy anything it hits. If this connects with your demon then he will perform a move that seals your demon. Should this second move connect then you will not be able to summon that demon for the rest of the fight, this is really bad since he can, and will, do it to your entire demon supply. It has happened to me more than once that he sealed all but one of my demons and the one he didn't seal was useless (ie. Triglav). Basically you are going to have to unsummon your demons when you see him attempting these moves, making sure to block often so that you do not get made dizzy yourself. If that happens then you will not be able to return your demon to its tube before he does it for you. Settle in for a long fight, this one will take you a bit. But so long as you are careful, block a lot and are patient you will come out on top. ------------------- Once he has been defeated, listen to what is said and then take the eastern stairs out of the area. A really crazy cutscene will play so enjoy! Episode clear! ==================================================== 7.12 - Episode 11: Mission to Space ==================================================== Alright, this episode is the beginning of the end for this game. If there are any side events that you haven't completed but would like to get them out of the way before you get too far into this Episode. After you do this quest you will lose out on most of the events that you haven't completed and items that haven't been picked up so go do them now. Sit through the beginning with Narumi and you two will get the bright idea to destroy the Tai-Itsu satellite. Head to Dr. Tsukumo, the boss of the Amazing Science Lab in Senju-Ku in the Fukagawa-Cho area. Tsukumo will explain to you that he could use the rocket for that purpose but he needs lots of data on the satellite to be able to do it. Head on over to Harumi-Cho and talk to Sadakichi about the satellite and he will hand over the Super Soldier Project Report. Head on back to Tsukumo with the report and he will explain that he doesn't know how to read Russian. You will be sent in the direction of Victor in the Gouma Den. Turns out that he can read some of it but not enough to be of help. Seems that the report is too complex for him to be able to translate. That leaves one last prominent foreigner, Rasputin. You can find the naughty little cyborg in the Shin-Sekai Soda Joint flirting with Tae. Bring him in by force in an amusing little cutscene and you will get the information that you need. With the information in hand head on back to Dr. Tsukumo. He will explain that there is only room enough in the rocket for one and that can't be you since space is a vacuum. Gouto and one demon will be going for a ride. It is important that you pick the proper demon for this little jaunt into space since it is a one way trip and he will have to fight a boss. You need a demon that can resist wind attacks and resist the physical attacks it will be facing. They will have access to your items so it isn't all that important that he has a healing spell. I prefer either a Thoth, since they're immune to all magic, or a Shouten since they can do some serious damage, are immune to wind and they can shrug off physical attacks. ------------------- Boss Fight - Tai-Itsu Core --------- Power - Weak vs. Death Defense System - N/A Tai-Itsu Core - N/A --------- - This fight is simple so long as you brought either a Thoth or a Shouten although it's a bit easier for the Shouten. You will need to destroy the three Defense Systems located in a circle around the Core itself. Use the Shoutens' Mighty Blow skill to take out the Defense Systems in one shot. You can more or less ignore the Power demons since they can't hurt you for nothing. Once all three of the Defense Systems have been destroyed move in on the core. Take out all of the Power demons at this point since they will interfere in your destruction of the core. One regular attack will take them out each, a Mighty Blow will take out more than one if you aim it right. Then turn towards the Core and hammer on it until it blows up. C'est la vie Shouten! ------------------- This is a sad little ending to the Episode. *sniff* Episode clear! ==================================================== 7.13 - Episode 12: Bonds Between Us ==================================================== Prepare to be confused! This level, and it's twisting and turning storyline is enough to make even the most seasoned Legacy of Kain fan turn blue in the face. Also, anyone who has played Shin Megami Tensei games before should know that this dungeon is going to take you well over an hour and a half to complete so I hope you're a patient person. You will be told that the only way to follow Kaya is to charge the Amatsu Kanagi again, apparently the game developers couldn't resist one last run around the city. Head to Fukagawa-Cho and talk to Satake outside of the bath house. Now go to Dr. Tsukumo at the Amazing Science Lab and chat him up, that's two people down, just one more. Head on over to the Shin-Sekai and chat with Tae to finish powering the Kanagi up fully. Now that the item has been fully charged up head on over to Dark Tsukudo-Cho to open up the final dungeon, the Akarana Corridor. This place is a huge maze of platforms and teleporters so be prepared for a small bit of a headache. ======================================= Akarana Corridor ======================================= When you appear in the Akrana Corridor in the 1930's section of the maze, you need to head north to enter the next area. However if you head south, towards the large square gap, you can teleport back to Dark Tsukudo-Cho where you will re-appear back on the bridge and can hop right back to the Shrine. This means that if you aren't too far in and need to go restock it is indeed possible. You may want to Forge your sword as powerful as you can get it and get resistance to either ice or force since those will be encountered a good amount. Also, as fair warning, there will be two people in the maze who will teleport you back to the beginning to allow you to get out of there so you aren't stuck in this place once you go too deep. Once you head into the 1940's area you should see a blue and black barrier in your way, a demon standing around a large hourglass shaped device and a white pad on the ground with pillars around it. The pad is a teleporter and you will be using several of these. The hourglass is how you proceed through the Akarana Corridor; by destroying them you will be able to make your way deeper since it gets rid of the barriers. Before you do anything else go ahead and step on the teleporter to the east. You will appear in an area with a Parvati and an astral traveler. Talk to the Parvati to get a clue as to what you need to do here. Go to the eastern section of the area and use the Inspect skill. You will find a Bead and a Chakra Pot lying on the floor. Now use the teleporter again, head over to the hourglass and touch it. You will be able to view events from the time or destroy it. If you destroy it, prepare for a boss fight. It's Ichimokuren, round 2! ------------------- Boss Fight: Ichimokuren --------- Turdak - Weak vs. Fire, Weak vs. Force Ichimokuren - Null Fire, Null Death, Weak vs. Electricity --------- - Alright, for those of you paying attention this is an almost exact repeat of the fight you two had before with one notable exception; he has way more Hit Points than he had before. Much like before Ichimokuren will summon in two Turdaks and will keep his eye closed until you dispatch of them. The Turdak are both incredibly easy to get rid of at this point. Summon in your most powerful demon who has a Electric attack spell, preferably a long range one. Defeat the Turdaks using fire bullets and sword combos to get Ichimokuren to open his eye. Once he opens his eye let your demon hit it with the electric spell while you shoot him up with electric bullets. Once he is staggered move in and beat on him with your sword. Do not bother attacking him with your sword unless he is weakened. He will repeat this whole fight exactly but if you stick to using powerful electricity attacks, electric bullets and your sword this should be a breeze for you. ------------------- Go down the stairs and past where the barrier ws blocking you. This teleporter will warp you to the 1950's. Search the area if you like and then keep on the path. Eventually you will find yourself in the 1960's. ******* Event - 1960's Dimensional Rift - In this dungeon there are several extra-dimensional places that you can only get to via using a Volt-Order demons Inspect skill. You will find glowing items in the floor that will teleport you to the Rift. The first of four Dimensional Rifts is located to the west as soon as you enter the 1960's. You will find yourself at a dead end on a ledge. Use the Inspect skill here and a glowing item will be revealed. Touch it and then enter the portal. There are a bunch of sellable items here, Byakou Chalices, Wooden Ornaments and the like. You will need to use the Inspect skill to even see the items so make sure to use it repeatedly, there are a total of six different items to be found here. These make it so that if you head back to the human world anytime soon you will have the money with which to restock. ******* Once you are done in the 1960's you can either head up the stairs to save your game or go straight and then take a right when you see a teleporter. This will take you to the 1970's. Go forward until you reach another hourglass. Touch it if you are curious and then destroy it. Now you will fight the Red Cape again. ------------------- Boss Battle - Red Cape --------- Red Cape - Null Death, Resists Fire --------- - The bright side of this fight is that the Red Cape is a fair bit easier to defeat this time thanks to the power you and your demons have acquired in the interim. The down side to that is he can still easily cause status ailments with his beam attacks. To beat this guy as fast as possible I suggest taking out your biggest and most powerful demon. Someone like Shouten or even a leveled up Triglav will do you wonders here since they can hit him hard. Use your gun to keep him as stunned as you can (normal bullets work fine, heavy is recommended) and then you and your demon should pummel him in melee. So long as your demon isn't weak vs. fire spells then you should be fine. As a note you do not really need to worry about Justification healing him too much this time around. You should be able to cut off whatever he heals just as fast as he heals himself, especially with heavy bullets. If you are really concerned about his fire attacks killing your demons, or yourself, use a Gdon. They are strong in melee, drain fire attacks, do well with resisting status ailments and if you somehow pull off a combo attack he has the Fire Drain one. This means Anger Blast will heal, not hurt, Raidou. ------------------- Now that the Red Cape is dead and the hourglass busted, head back to the 1960's and you will find the barrier here is down. Head on over to the nearby hourglass, taking a detour to save if you like. I prefer not to due to the high encounter rates here but to each their own. ------------------- Boss Fight - Rasputin --------- Rasputin - Null Gun and Death, Weak vs. Electricity Matryoshkas - All are vulnerable to Gun --------- - While this fight may have been a bit tricky before it is going to be almost laughably easy this time around. You may, or may not, have had heavy ammo for the last fight but you will definitely have a lot of it this time around. That means that the Matryoshkas will be like nothing before your wrath. If you have your sword fused to resist ice, this battle is a joke. When the fight starts, taking out a demon who has a ranged electricity attack and start shooting the Matryoshkas to death with heavy ammo. As soon as Rasputin rears his ugly little cyborg head have your demon target him with its electricity spells. Keep your distance from him and finish off the Matryoshkas unless you see he is weakened, then lay into him. Once all of the Matryoshkas are dead he will quickly follow. When he isn't being weakened and pounded on by you he will be trying to resummon at least two of the Matryoshkas which is perfect time to beat on him even more. Even the Megido attack isn't as threatening as it was before. Just remember to use L1 to pull your demon to you if it looks like it's going to get caught in the way of Megido. It's easy for you to survive, not always demons. Rasputin will go down sooner rather than later. Just keep your eyes open for when he starts using the Trailing Death skill, paralysis is bad news, and you will have little to no problem here. ------------------- With that out of the way head back towards the save point and go up the stairs. Make your way towards the save point. Save your game and follow that path past where the time/space barrier was. In front of you is a teleporter to a new area but if you go to the east you will encounter Nakisawame. She is invaluable in this area so heal up if your minions are running low on either HP or MP. Its expensive, and not worth it more or less any other time, but right now beggars cant be choosers. Especially if you aren't going to be going back to the real world any time soon. Head further that way until you find another teleporter that will take you to the 1980's. Open the red crystals and you will see an astral traveler standing in the rear. If you talk to him, named He Who Denies the Future, you will be able to teleport back to the entrance of this dungeon via the conversation prompts. Should you need to restock don't forget that he is here. It's a convenient way to get back to civilization. You can also head to the east and get some more crystals beyond a Tainted Gate. Now head on up the stairs. You will be in the 1990's, a wonderful time if I may so so myself. It is highly suggested that you do the next event before doing anything else. ******* Event - 1990's Dimensional Rift - Now for the second of the Dimensional Rifts. This one is also located as soon as you enter a new area. It is found to the west, right across from a few Tainted Gates. Inside of this Rift is a Jin Dan and Balm of life items in the blue crystals but, more importantly, there is a save point here. There is not as much here as there was in the last one but any save point makes an area automatically more useful. ******* Further up the path there is an Oni and Ikusa blocking the path. They will not move for you unless you have the Allure skill. If you do have it use it here to get them to move. If you do not have it, there is a teleporter to the east. Go on through it and you will find yourself in a small area with a barrier that stops you from going farther through. You can capture a Lilith here if you get into a few fights, she is a Pagan-Order demon with Read Mind, Allure and the Mudo spell. I found her to be the most useful of the Pagan demons barring the strongest of them, Beelzebub, although she is totally immune to physical type attacks which is nice. Once you use the Allure skill on the two dopes they will get out of your way. Head past them and you will have a choice as to where to go. If you go to the east you will find a fairly short path that leads to the bosses from Episode 5, while east leads you to a puzzle and the boss from Episode 7. Keeping with beating the bosses in the order you fought them before, use the eastern pad. ***Note: If you are looking for a quick escape, head to the western pad instead of the east. Look to the section on 2030 for the reason. Now that you are in 2020 head forward and then move east. You will reach an hourglass that leads to a fight against Abihiko and Nagasunehiko. Wonderful times this one is. ------------------- Boss Battle - Nagasunehiko and Abihiko --------- - Nagasunehiko - Resists Ice, Weak vs. Fire - Abihiko - Resists Fire, Weak vs. Ice --------- - Much like the other bosses, these guys have gained a goodly amount of Hit Points as compared to their previous incarnations but are still basically the same enemies. All their attacks will be repeated, even the Amatobi. However now you have stronger demons, so this won't be as hard as it was before. You are pretty much useless as far as dealing damage in this fight. Summon in a demon with either ice or fire spells, preferably without either of them as a weakness, and send them after the brothers. As before I tend to have a more powerful ice demon than fire so I start off the battle going after Abihiko. Let the demon weaken him and the run in, beating on him. Try to get him down to around 40% of his health as quickly as possible using ice bullets to help. Obviously they will attempt to use the Amatobi attack on you before this happens so return your demon to its tube and continue to beat down on the two brothers once they stop. They will do it twice, as before, so fight them in the same way you did the last time. The major exception is that now you have demons with spells like Agidyne and Bufudyne instead of just regular old Agi. If you have a demon with a Fire or Ice Spin attack then they will do a lot to cut off the enemies health here. If you're feeling like having some fun at their expense, summon in your Aibhiko and Nagasunehiko. They are very powerful demons and can kick their own butts rather quickly. ------------------- ******* Event - 1990's Dimensional Rift - The third of the Dimensional Rifts is accessible after killing Abihiko and Nagasunehiko. Head north towards where the three, now two, time/space rifts that are blocking your path. Go to the east, where the barrier dropped, and you will encounter a Tainted Gate. Send a demon through solo and use the inspect skill to find the entrance. There are four red crystals in here so make sure you send an appropriate demon type. I would suggest that you send in an Oboroguruma if you want more valuables to sell off, but with how deep you are in now you might just want to stay. If that is the case then send in another demon. They will likely pull out some sort of healing items. ******* Now that they are out of the way head back to 1990 and take the western teleporter to end up in the 2030's. Head straight along the path and take a left towards the save point. Use it if you like but almost as important is the astral traveler right next to the save point. This is He Who Gazes at the Past. Much like He Who Denies the Future, he will teleport you back to the entrance to this maze if you ask him to do so in conversation. You may be running low on bullets, healing items and anti- items so now may be the time to head out. If you do so simply head back here once you are done. Take the Warp pad nearby and you will end up in the 2040's with a fairly simple puzzle. You can talk to the demons here to get tips on what you have to do but it is simple enough. Summon a demon who you trust going solo and send him off the screen to the left, you will appear on the right side. Now go right again and right a second time. The warp pad will turn itself on. Step on it and you will be brought to an hourglass. This one has Hitokotonusi in it. ------------------- Boss Battle - Hitokotonusi --------- Hitokotonusi (Normal) - Drain Force, Null Death, Weak vs. Fire Hitokotonusi (Anzu) - Drain Force, Null Death, Weak vs. Electricity Hitokotonusi (Orthrus) - Drain Force, Null Death, Weak vs. Ice Hitokotonusi (Poltergeist) - Drain Force, Mostly Null Gun, Weak vs. Physical --------- - Unlike the others Hitokotonusi is still something of a serious threat. If you remember the last fight with him you will likely remember his force breath attack. It is still just as dangerous as it was the last time if you aren't ready for it. You must block the force breath attack to stop yourself from being torn apart by it. There is a deceptively easy way to win this fight. Before you come here go to the Gouma Den and fuse a Hitokotonusi of your own. Not only is he going to be immune to the force attacks of your enemy but he has the combination skill "Force Drain". While you may be tempted to bring another demon who can exploit your enemies weakness it is more important that you protect yourself. You can use your gun to exploit his weak points in each form and build up your demons morale to do the combo attack. Essentially, so long as you have the Force Drain ability going, you can just keep swinging and shooting at him and never worrying about stopping to block. Since you will be getting healed by the force breath attack (Healed a fair amount at that) it is unimportant if he hits you with a few other spells every now and again. He might do a lot of damage to you with his spells but you really shouldn't ever have to worry. So long as you block when your health is getting low your life will never really be threatened. Finish him off with your bullets and sword swipes and that will be that. ------------------- Once you have taken out Hitokotonusi make your way back to the teleport pad and back to the 1990's. Now head the teleporter to the south-east (where I told you to go if you needed a demon with Allure) and take the warp to the 2000's. Save your game and keep following the path until you reach the 2010 time period. You will see an Ukobach and an Okuninushi standing near another inactive warp panel and paths to the left and right. This is another puzzle. Use Cool Down on the Ukobach and he will explain what directions you need to go (left, left, right). Now go use Ignite on Okuninushi and she will explain that your demon needs to do the last step of this solo. Essentially solving it goes as follows: * Raidou goes left, exits on the right side. * Raidou goes through the left, exits on the right side. * Send a demon through the right side solo. The teleporter will activate so head on through it. This is the final hourglass fight so they picked the second hardest boss thus far, Mishaguji, to play with you. He is still pretty hard to fight due to his abilities though, so stay on your toes here. ------------------- Boss Battle - Mishaguji --------- Mishaguji - Null Gun, Null Electricity, Null Death, Weak vs. Ice --------- - No matter how strong you get this guy always seems to stay fairly hard to beat, mostly due to his Cursed Emission and Cursed Bolt attacks. The only thing going for is that by now you will have fairly strong demons with you. Take out one of your stronger ice spellcasters, they're going to be necessary here. I used Nagasunehiko for this fight but you might find someone else more to your tastes. Just try to make sure that he is a ranged magic user since Mishaguji is a serious danger in close combat. Like before he will teleport around and try to hit you with his melee attacks, most notably his wind up punch. As he is doing all of this he will spit out the Cursed Emission. Since you cannot block this attack it is highly important that you run away from it as much as possible. If you get hit with it you will be paralyzed long enough for him to flat out kill you. Your best chance here is to have your ice spellcaster start hitting him with spells and take advantage of his weakened state. This is the only time that you can really even hurt him. Your gun is useless, so be careful. When he starts to use the Cursed Bolt attack, unsummon your demon like before and block it. Unlike before you do have another option instead; move far enough away from your demon that Mishaguji will turn totally to you. This should allow you to block the attack, suffer no ill effects and your demon can keep on damaging the boss. If your demon gets hit immediately use an Anti-Mind. You really should have the supplies to handle it by now. ------------------- Head back to the 1990's once you have defeated Mishaguji. Head back towards the two teleporters behind the Ikusa and Oni. If you take the western teleporter you will head towards the final fight. If you go to the eastern one you can get to a treasure area. However to make the most of it you will need to have a variety of different types of demon: A Frost-Order demon, a Volt-Order demon, a Fury-Order demon, a Pagan-Order demon, a demon with Fly and a demon with Sneak. I would suggest going to the item area even if you can only get one or two of the items. Step onto the western teleporter and then make your way all the way north. You will reach an area, 20XX, with a new puzzle and everything. You can talk to the two demons here for some idea as to what to do but you will need to bribe one of them to fork the information over. Forget that, just use the tip below: * Summon a Frost demon and head left with it. It MUST be a demon of the Frost Order and not some demon with ice spells. * Now summon a Volt-Order demon and head to the left again. * Summon a Fury demon and send it to the right on a solo investigation. * Summon a Pagan demon and send it to the right on a solo investigation. Use the teleporter now that it is activated and you will be on a small platform with a Moh Shuvuu and a glowing spot on the floor. Summon a demon with Fly and have them investigate the glowing spot. They will be teleported to a ledge with a Bead of Life. Send a demon with sneak to do the same to get another item (forgot to take note of what the item was) and then you can send any other type of demon to get another item (forgot to take note of what it was). Raidou can't take the teleporter so send the demons. Once you are done here head back to the 1990's and take the western teleporter. Alright, on to the final stretch of the game. Make your way all the way north, past the save point and the astral traveler who can return you to the entrance. You will pass through the 2050's and eventually reach an area that could only be the final area of the game, right next to a save point. Before you save the game head north a bit and look to the event below. ******* Event - 20XX Dimensional Rift - This event is linked to the dog that is inside of the Amazing Science Labs. If you went there during any previous act you might have spoken to this dog via the Read Mind investigation skill. You should have told him the name of your dream at the time. You will meet an astral traveler here that is apparently the dog as a lost soul. Tell him the name of your dream and he will tkae you to the fourth Dimensional Rift. There are a bunch of stat boosting incense items here as well as Nakisawame. Have her restore you and your demons to perfect health, gather up the items and then head on out. ******* I suggest you save your game now, further up the stairs is the final fight of the game and it isn't a quick, nor easy, affair. Whenever you're ready head on up the stairs to start the fight. ------------------- Boss Battle - Presence within Kaya --------- Presence within Kaya - Null Death --------- - This fight is a lot simpler than many people make it out to be. I managed to beat this fight with a level 24 Jack Frost as my helper. All you need to do is to summon a demon that can cast a light healing spell and has enough magic points to let them cast the spell plenty of times. Kaya only has a few attacks: a three hit combo (like you) and a spin attack (like you). The spin attack is a major threat since it can knock you flat on your behind. To handle this fight easily, summon your healer before doing anything else. Now go into Kayas face and let her attack you, she will likely do a spin attack. Swing your sword at her twice and then block. The first hit will stagger her and the second will do some damage. If you try for the third hit she will counterattack and knock you down to the floor. Should you try to thrust attack her she will either move out of the way, only seen this once, or she will recover too quickly and then hit you with a hard combo. Dont take any risks, simply stick to your combo and block routine and she will go down eventually. Conserve your strength for the next two fights. ------------------- Once this fight ends it will move immediately into the next fight. You will get a bucketload of experience though so make sure that you have a demon you would like to see leveled up at the ready. ------------------- Boss Battle - Battleship Yasomagatsu --------- Rakshasa - Weak vs. Force Arahabaki - Null Fire, Null Ice, Null Electricity, Null Force, Null Death, Drain Status Ailments, Weak vs. Physical Lilith - Null Physical, Weak vs. Ice Yasomagatsu - Null Death, Null Mind --------- - Yeah... this part of the fight... not so simple as the last was. While it's not really all that hard there is the very real chance you just suddenly get killed without warning. Yasomagatsu has two forms of attack you will have to watch out for. The first is when he is at a distance, he will charge up and then fire his cannons at you. They shots explode in groups of three and then he charges up again. While he is bombarding you there will be demons running interference, I will get to those later. The second form of attack is when the ship surfaces next to the platform that you are on. The Super Soldiers will start to fire down on you with machine guns doing minimal damage, negligable really if you have a healer. The trick to beating this big boy is swapping out demons depending on where he is at the moment. When he is far away Hitokotonusi is your best bet since he can have wind and healing magics and he resists the cannon shots very well. While the ship bombards you enemies will come in pairs: two Rakshasa, two Arahabaki and two Liliths. Hitokotonusi and your force bullets can make short work of the two Rakshasa surprisingly fast. When the Arahabaki come out switch to your physical bullets and start firing at them. They wont always register the hit as a weakness shot but it will happen if you keep shooting. If Hitokotonusi is still out use his force drain to slow down the spell barrage these guys will use. Lastly when the Liliths come out pull out the heavy bullets or the fatal ones and open fire on them. If theyre causing trouble use the ice bullets to stun them long enough to take them out. While you are doing this he will eventually launch the cannon blasts at you. If you do not block these you can take a serious amount of damage so the minute he seems like he is going to let loose, block! If you dont you will likely need to heal and you should be saving that for the next fight. Once you kill off all the enemies it switches to the next phase of the fight. The ship will go under the water and resurface right next to you. What you want to use here is someone with a powerful offensive combo attack, I preferred to use Nagasunehiko. Now go to the leftmost corner of the screen to hide from the Yomi-Kugutsu and their machine guns and just start to pound on the ship, preferably with your sword while you instruct your demon to use its strongest offensive attack spell. If you keep your demon far enough away it should only get hit every so often by the machine gun fire, allowing it to charge up a combo attack. Unleash the combo attack as soon as you can. If you do this quick enough you can unleash two, maybe three, combo attacks which should be enough to take about half of its health. Simply repeat the cycle of this until the ship is dead in the water. ------------------- Once again there is no breathers to be had here, this hops immediately into the very next form of the Soulless God. ------------------- Boss Battle - Soulless God, Yasomagatsu: Arms --------- Right Arm - Null Death Left Arm - Null Death --------- - You will not actually be fighting the Transformer himself, you will be going after his arms. The good news is that there are only a very few attacks that he actually uses. The first is a cannon blast where the twin cannons will slowly turn to face one direction and light it on fire, the attack is called Soulless Blast I believe. Wherever the blast goes it will set the ground on fire. The next attack, Soulless Beam is a bit trickier to dodge since it sweeps from the one side of the screen to the other, namely from the side that you are on to part of the way across the screen. The last attack is the simplest one to deal with, Magatsu Crush. While this does oodles and oodles of damage it is super easy to dodge so its a non-issue. The trick to handling this fight is to run to one of the arms and start to hit it with your sword. When it starts to use any of its attacks you need to move, although how you move is greatly dependant upon the attack he is using. When its the Magatsu Crush run for a corner, if it isnt then all you need to do is to head on over to the other arm and start attacking it with your sword. If you have a demon with a powerful offensive spell like Agidyne (but not the ones that require them to be close to the beast) you can use that to help speed this one up. Hitokotonusi worked out well for me here since he has a healing spell and an offensive spell. Essentially this fight really boils down to simply running from one arm to the other and attacking it until you destroy one of them. I know that this will sound easier said than done at the beginning of the fight, even if it turns out to be a battle of attrition, you can win if you have enough healing items and demons with healing spells, so don't get too stressed. Once one arm has been destroyed then you will have to deal with the other arm going hyperactive. The Soulless Beam will now go most of the way across the screen requiring you to hide in one of the corners. If you are having problems getting close just blow all of your heavy and fatal ammo, it wont be much help in the fight after this. ------------------- We're almost there. The fight will now move straight into it's last stage but it isn't as hard as the previous form was. ------------------- Boss Battle - Soulless God, Yasomagatsu: True Form --------- Yasomagatsu - Null Gun, Null Death, Resist Physical, Weak vs. Fire, Weak vs. Ice, Weak vs. Electricity, Weak vs. Force --------- - Now its time to fight off the main body. This one isnt as hard as the other form was but its still a pain in the butt. This boss is ungodly hard to hurt, being totally immune to bullets and incredibly resistant to just about all forms of attack except Almighty (which only Belial or Beelzebub has). The boss has three methods of attacks: first it can throw off either a maragi, mabufu, mazan or mazio attack anywhere on the field, more than likely catching you and your demon, it can throw down a double Megido blast attack on you and, lastly, it can fire off an attack called Soulless Rain. Soulless Rain is a doozy, it does lots of damage and you cannot pass where it is on the battlefield, effectively limiting your movement for a time. This is bad since you can be cornered and then devastated with Megidos. Do not let your health drop too low for this fight. Lets just start this off by saying that it is essential that your sword provide you with some sort of magical resistance, be it to fire, ice, electricity or force. Regardless of how all this sounds the fight is actually deceptively simple. You would do best if you have a demon who has some nice spell resistances and also has, as its combo attack, a spell draining skill (ie. Force Drain, etc.). This way at least some of the spells will actually heal you instead of hurting you. Between this and your swords spell resistance you should actually not take too much damage when it starts throwing off spells. Just try and make sure that your sword resists a different type of energy than your combo attack absorbs, otherwise it's just going to be redundant. Now all you need to do is stay in the beasts face and attack it while your demon throws off magic spells. If you are lucky your demon will actually hit it hard enough to temporarily lower its defense via the "weak" status. If this happens then your sword will be actually able to deal more than 30 damage per hit. When it starts to fire off the Soulless Rain move towards it and then run along the platforms edge to one of the sides and, once you reach the end of the platform, run towards the rear of it. If you do this right the balls will be so spread out you should be able to move through them and right into the bosses face to continue your assault. The only real attack to watch out for is Megido, since you cant block it and it will knock you down you have to move to evade this one. Thats really all there is to it. This fight requires lots of moving around, lots of items and spells to keep you healthy and your demons magic full. So long as you stay on your toes you should be fine. For a final battle this whole thing isnt really all that hard. ------------------- Congratulations, you just beat the final boss of Devil Summoner! There are a number of things you can do from here. You can either reload form a previous save and leave the Akarana Corridor to pursue some of the side quests you may not have done or you can move into a Second Cycle. A Second Cycle game lets you keep your Devil Summoner rating, Customer rating at Kunnou-Ya and Shin-Sekai and your Demonic Compendium will remain full as well (although you need to level up to use them). You will lose all your items and levels though. A good thing is that Kunnou-Ya will sell the Aurora Clip, an invaluable item that gives you an infinite amount of Normal Bullets. In addition you can now play on Hard Mode which carries some challenges of its own. I will list that in section 7.15 - Hard Mode. ==================================================== 7.14 - Side Quests ==================================================== The Training Halls ======================================= Spread across the length and breadth of the city are four hidden places. These Training Halls are the locations of lots of Red Crystals, that being the lions share of reason to visit them. Each of them has eight Red Crystals; two in the north-east section, two in the north-west section, two in the south-east section and two in the south-west section. However there is a Tainted Gate that stops Raidou from going into the Halls themselves, so you will have to send a demon by itself. This is the major danger when dealing with the Training Halls, you must send a demon into them by themselves and they stand a good chance of getting killed if you pick the wrong one and he goes up against his weakness while there. Essentially these are all a bunch of treasure dungeons. However they only open at a very particular Episode in the game. They will become available at Episode 4 and two will open up right then and there. After that point a new one will open up every three Episodes. ======================================= Training Hall, East ======================================= Accessible: Episode 4 Location: Go to the eastern-most pier on the map northeast of Harumi-Cho piers. Note: When you enter the Training Hall, East you will see a group of a Zombie, Ghoul and a Zombie Guard to the north of the entrance. Talk to them and they will ask if you are looking to take their incense, apparently they need it because they smell so bad. Well of course they do, they're zombies. They are pretty easy to get rid especially if you have a demon with fire spells. It should be pretty easy to get rid of. Defeat them and you will collect Ma Incense. ======================================= Training Hall, North ======================================= Accessible: Episode 4 Location: Head west from Kiyoshi's Factory, call the Tarrasque and go to the small island in the center of the lake. ======================================= Training Hall, South ======================================= Accessible: Episode 7 Location: Go west from Tsukudo-Cho, through the river and step off onto the pier over here. There are also items to be found on the city map over here. ======================================= Training Hall, West ======================================= Accessible: Episode 10 Location: Head south-west from Kasumidai until you reach the southwesternmost pier on the map. ======================================= The Nameless Shrine Training Hall ======================================= At the beginning of Episode 3 the right Inari statue will mention that there is a secret training area. You can get there by going to the washstand to the southeast of the statues. This is not a simple treasure dungeon like the name might leave you thinking. In reality this Training Hall is actually the "secret" dungeon of this game and it leads you to one of the biggest secrets in the game: the Demon Lord, Beelzebub. By completing this dungeon, and besting him in combat, you will gain the ability to fuse the Demon Lord and have the strongest demon in the game at your beck and call. Each of these floors will open up during a particular episode. You should go to them as they open up and take them one at a time. These stages can be really brutal on you since the encounter rate is ridiculously high here (sometimes as much as every three or four steps). The enemies also come in rather vicious groups with combinations of enemies that can wipe you out rather fast. Things like Nekomatas and Utai-Gaikutsu who will alternate between charming you and turning you to stone. Come prepared! =============================================================================== Floor || Unlocked || Notes || Items ======||============||==============||========================================= 1st || Episode 3 || N/A || N/A ------||------------||--------------||----------------------------------------- 2nd || Episode 3 || N/A || St Incense, Foxtail, Force x15 ------||------------||--------------||----------------------------------------- 3rd || Episode 4 || N/A || Ma Incense, Phys x20, "Mansaku" Sake ------||------------||--------------||----------------------------------------- 4th || Episode 5 || Yoshitsune || Vi Incense, Balm of Life, Death x20 ------||------------||--------------||----------------------------------------- 5th || Episode 6 || Hyakki Yakou || N/A ------||------------||--------------||----------------------------------------- 6th || Episode 8 || N/A || Lu Incense, Foxtail, Sleep x20 ------||------------||--------------||----------------------------------------- 7th || Episode 10 || Hyakki Yakou || Soma Drop, St Incense, Charm x20 ------||------------||--------------||----------------------------------------- 8th || Episode 10 || N/A || Ma Incense, Bead of Life, Stone x20 ------||------------||--------------||----------------------------------------- 9th || Episode 11 || Hyakki Yakou || Babylon Tablet, Great Chakra, Vi Incense ------||------------||--------------||----------------------------------------- Bottom|| Episode 12*|| Beelzebub || Giza Mask, Soma, Lu Incense x3 =============================================================================== 1st Floor ======================== This is where the exit is located. ======================== 2nd & 3rd Floor ======================== There is nothing at all on these floors, barring items. ======================== 4th Floor ======================== In addition to the items you will find the Fury demon Yoshitsune here. See the Hidden Demons section for more information on this. ======================== 5th Floor ======================== This is the first place you will likely fight a Kudan. She will inform you about the possibility of entering into a challenge of sorts on this level, the Hyakki Yakou. To initiate this event you will have to walk around all eight of the platforms in any order. Once you do this you will be "invited" to the Hyakki Yakou challenge. ------------------- Event Battle - Hyakki Yakou #1 --------- Jubokko - Null Death, Resist Ice, Weak vs. Fire Ipoon-Datara - Resist Status, Drain Death, Weak vs. Electricity Oni - Resist Physical, Weak vs. Electricity --------- - The major threat in this fight is going to come from the Oni. They can block your attacks which prevent you from weakening them and hit you pretty hard. Ippon-Datara aren't too big of a threat so long as you can kep some distance from them. You will need to alternate between fire attacks, for the Jubokko, and Electricity attacks for the other two. You will usually be fighting five or six of them at a time. You are going to need a bunch of Life Stones, Chakra Chips and Chakra Drops to make sure that you and your demons don't die. ------------------- After you finish off this fight you will get the Phantom Skull, one of the three items that you will need to get into the fight with Beelzebub. ======================== 6th Floor ======================== There's nothing here except for the items. ======================== 7th Floor ======================== You might run across another Kudan here who will once again explain how to find the Hyakki Yakou challenge. Head for the south-western platform during a new moon to recieve an invitation to this battle. ------------------- Event Battle - Hyakki Yakou #2 --------- Nekomata - Null Electricity, Resist Force, Weak vs. Fire Utai-Gaikotsu - Null death, Drain Fire, Weak vs. Physical Nue - Null Electricity, Resist Force, Weak vs. Fire --------- - This fight is no less than ten times more frustrating than the last one. Two of the three demons will be flinging off status ailments while the other one will be doing lots of damage. I have had my demon get charmed, me get petrified and then shattered by my own demon and a Nue shatter me. It's incredibly frustrating so it is best if you head straight for the Utai-Gaikotsu. The Utai-Gaikotsu will die off fairly quickly so long as you go after them fast enough. Use Force and Physical type bullets to weaken it while you lay waste to them with sword strikes. Once they have been gotten rid of turn your attention to the Nekomata. Next to the petrification the charming will be the other problem. The Nue are basically a pushover once the status effects stop slowing you down. ------------------- After you finish off this fight you will get the Tyrant Spawn, one of the three items that you will need to get into the fight with Beelzebub. ======================== 8th Floor ======================== There's nothing here except for the items. ======================== 9th Floor ======================== You might run across another Kudan here who will once again explain how to find the Hyakki Yakou challenge. Head for the north-eastern most platform on the level during a full moon to recieve an invitation to this battle. ------------------- Event Battle - Hyakki Yakou #3 --------- Ikusa - Weak vs. Electricity, Weak vs. Death Obaryion - Null Death, Weak vs. Ice, Weak vs. Force Gashadokuro - Null Death, Drain Ice, Weak vs. Fire, Vulnerable to Guns --------- - While the first fight was a test of you and your ability to fight off magic and the second was a test of your ability to handle status effects, this is a great big throw down. It is you versus a bunch of physical based demons with the mudo spell thrown in to make your life difficult. The Ikusa will be throwing their spears at you which you must block or you will be knocked on your butt and take a lot of damage. The Obaryion will try to use their combo attack and since they are so high leveled they will do a heck of a lot of damage. Gashadokuro will attempt to use Mamudo on you, surrounding himself with darkness that will take half of your health. Coming into this fight with your sword Forged to help you resist physical attacks will be of great help. Try to keep your distance from all enemies and use your gun to weaken the enemies. If you have a Nebiros let him use Mudo on the Ikusa and attack the other two while you use your gun to selectively hit the enemies to weaken them and then take them out. Pick them apart one by one while your Nebiros acts as your meat shield. That should make this fight quite a bit easier. ------------------- After you finish off this fight you will get the Hell Emblem, the last of the three items that you will need to get into the fight with Beelzebub. ======================== Bottom Floor ======================== You will not be able to get to this floor until you have reached the final save point of the game. From there you will have to make your way back to the Nameless Shrine and go to the bottom floor. There are several items to be found in this stage but you will have to avoid the northern platform while going to get them. That is where the bad fight will happen. Go there only when you are fully prepared for a throw down. ======================================= Hidden Demons ======================================= Episode 3 ======================== Skill Legion ------------------- Location: Gouma Den Fusion: Special How to: After Episode 3 the Gouma Den fusion machine will become unstable due to the tinkering that he has been doing. In the event of a fusion accident you will end up with Legion. There are a variety of different types of Legion, one that has lots of healing skills, one that has serious healing capabilities and so on. However it isn't always easy to get a fusion accident, I never saw one during two playthroughs of the game. I only saw it when I forced the issue. During the full moon fusion accidents seem to happen more often much like it is the only time you can capture skill demons. As far as I have been able to determine there is no way to control what type of Legion you get from accidents so there is an easy way to go about getting Legion. Go to Kunnou-Ya and register all of your demons but clear enough space in your tubes to hold three demons. Go right outside of Kunnou-Ya and keep walking around, fighting the enemies until you capture an Ukobach and Alp. They should be nice and low level when you do this to get them. Now continue figuting until you max out their loyalty and then bring them into Konnou-Ya and register them. Go on back outside and walk around until the moon shifts to a full moon, if you have a demon with Intimidate you can cut out unecessary fighting as you do this. Once a full moon comes go into the Gouma Den and fuse the two demons. If you don't get a Legion head outside, release the fused demon and then go back inside and pull out the Ukobach and Alp and try fusing them again. Just keep on repeating this until you get a Legion. It took me about twelve tries to get one through this method but it wasn't that expensive. ------------------- ======================== Episode 5 ======================== Fury Yoshitsune ------------------- Location: Nameless Shrine Training Hall, 4th floor Fusion: Pagan Utai-Gaiktsu & Frost Okuninushi How to: As soon as you are able to head to the Nameless Shrine in Episode 5 go to the Training Hall here and go to the fourth floor. Head straight up from the elevator and you will see him standing there. Defeat him and his companions and you will be able to fuse him from that point forward. The fight really isn't anything all that special so I'm not going to go into it in detail here. ------------------- ======================== Episode 7 ======================== Skill Kudan ------------------- Location: Random Encounter, see below for details. Fusion: Pagan Nebiros & Pagan Incubus How to: This is probably one of the hardest of the demons to get in this game. This is mostly due to how hard she is to even get a hold of in the first place. When you finally do get into the fight she is nearly impossible to hurt, will cast a spell to fully heal herself every so often and then will run away if the fight lasts for too long. The first step is finding her. She can be found, as a random encounter, in the following places any time after Episode 7: * Tsukudo-Cho * Ginza-Cho * Sakuradayama * Daidouji Mansion Basement You can also find her in the Nameless Shrine Training Hall. She will be found on the 5th, 7th, 9th and Bottom Floors. However you cannot fight her here. She will give you a hint about what is going on with the floor, whether it is one of the Hyakki Yakou challenges or the fight with Beelzebub. To kill the frustrating Kudan without much stress come into the fight with a demon who has an elemental spin combo attack and a long range offensive spell (I used a Raja Naga). Start to attack the creature with your sword to keep it in place while it gets hit with the spell, stunning it and rendering it weak and open to be hit with criticals. Use your sword a few times to charge up the combo attack. Now wait for it to be stunned again due to its weakness being hit and unleash the combo attack. This should kill it immediately. If you encounter her in the Nameless Shrine Training Hall she will run away as soon as she gives you a hint on how to find the special battle on that floor. Dont even waste any ammo or spells. ======================== Episode 8 ======================== Pagan Alice ------------------- Location: Special* Fusion: Frost Raja Naga & Frost Jack Frost How to: Alice cannot be obtained via the convential means, you cannot simply run around to find her. You will have to draw her out. However to do this you will need to wait for Episode 8 and then you will need Belial and Nebiros. You can't fuse Belial until you are level 66 so it might take you a bit to get to this little side event. 1. Head on over to the phone box in Tsukudo-Cho and examine it. Belial will answer the phone. 2. Go on over to the phonebox in Harumi-Cho with Nebiros in your party and he will answer the phone. 3. Head on over to the phone on the corner in Ginza-Cho. If you have Nebiros and Belial in your party Alice will challenge you to a fight. A fight is going to break out between you, Alice and a bunch of her allies. Do not, I repeat NOT, get into this fight unless you have forged your sword so that it will help you resist Death magics. The Mudo attack is going to be getting flung around like nobodies business so it is nearly suicide to come into this fight without some resistance to it. ------------------- Event Battle - Alice --------- Obaryion - Weak vs. Ice, Weak vs. Force Jubokko - Null Death Alice - Null Death, Resist Ice, Resist Wind, Weak vs. Fire --------- - Let's get one thing out of the way here; the enemies are never going to stop coming in. The Obaryion will do some pretty mean damage to you and your demons and the Jubokko are just troublesome. Alice is going to be the source of the never-ending Mudo spells. Alice doesn't really haev all that many hit points. Take out your fire bullets and summon a demon with fire spells. Ignore the enemies and just start to unload on her. If you keep up on her she will go down in no time. This is actually a fairly easy fight all things considered. If you find yourself being totally unable to kill off the enemies without dying, summon a demon who has healing spells. Let them heal you while you use fire bullets to weaken her and then attack her while she is weakened. It should not take all that long to get rid of her if someone has a Diarahan spell. Her only real danger comes from her use of the Mamudo skill so once you learn how to compensate for this you should have little difficulty here. ------------------- ======================== Episode 12 ======================== Pagan Beelzebub ------------------- Location: Training Hall, Bottom Floor Fusion: Frost Orochi & Frost Arahabaki How to: You will need to complete the Hyakki Yakou challenges on the 5th, 7th and 9th floors in the Namless Shrine Training Hall. See above for more info on how to do this. When you have the Phantom Skull, Tyrant Spawn and Hell Emblem head down to the basement and the fight will occur. ------------------- Event Battle - The Demon Lord Challenge --------- Ukobach - Null Fire, Weak vs. Ice Nebiros - Null Physical, Null Death, Null Status, Weak vs. Force (use guns!) Beelzebub - Resist Guns, Resist Fire, Resist Ice, Resist Electricity, Resist Force, Null Status, Drain Death --------- - Yeah, this fight is no joke. Not only will you have to fight the Demon Lord, Beelzbub, but you are going to have to deal with his henchmen. But to even get to that point you will have to carve your way through 50 demons to even get to this point much like a Hyakki Yakou challenge. The Ukobach who are here are of negligable threat, Nebiros and Beelzebub are enough of a threat. The Nebiros are immune to sword swings and will cast the Mudo spell more oftne than you will like. This wouldn't be that big of a deal except for the fact that Beelzebub can do more than 400 damage per hit with his physical attacks to say nothing of his love of using Megido. Before coming into this fight I highly suggest you do a few things: Make sure that you have the clip of Fatal ammunition, fully loaded. Get your sword Forged with death or physical resistance (physical is preferred here). Lastly make sure that you have a powerful demon with you, Belial works well here. It might be worth your while to Forge Belial into your sword and then get him back since he is just that damn powerful. His combo attack will come in handy as well since it is an unstoppable attack (as close to Megido as it gets). The best way to go about this fight is to let Belial use his Maragidyne to keep the Nebiros busy since he drains Death magics and is immune to fire, this means that he will heal from Mudo skills and ignore the fire spells thrown at him. Try to build up your morale so you can use his devastating Astral Burst ability on Beelzebub. It is imperative that you block any of Beelzebubs' melee attacks coming your way, lessening that damage is imperative, as well as any of the Mudo spells that do come your way. This battle is going to be a long fight and a definite war of attrition. So long as you watch your health and nurse Beelzebubs HP you should have little in the way of problems. Belial can help with this as well thanks to his Diarahan spell. Amusingly, the mostly useless Kudan can even be of help here if you are not high enough level to fuse Belial (if you aren't high enough level you might die in this fight anyways). ------------------- ======================== Second Cycle ======================== Frost Raiho ------------------- Location: Tsukudo-Cho Fusion: Wind Moh Shuvuu & Volt Tsuchigumo How to: To even get to this demon you will need to have reached the Master of Demons loyalty title. As soon as the Second Cycle starts, and you have control of Raidou again, look for Detective Kazama. You should be close to this title by this point but if you aren't just wait a bit and go find him afterwards. You can usually find him in Ginza-Cho. When you have the appropriate title he will give you the Bancho Uniform. Head on over to Kunnou-Ya when you have it and you will encounter "Raidou's Biggest Fan" a Jack Frost. He will take the uniform and use it, becoming Raiho. When prompted tell him that his name is "Raihee" and a fight will start. You should be around level 15 or so before you start this fight, he can be hard otherwise. ------------------- Event Battle - Raiho & Cronies --------- Jack Frost - Drain Ice, Weak vs. Fire Pyro Frost - Drain Fire, Weak vs. Ice Raiho - Drain Ice, Null Status, Resist Death --------- - Like most other event or boss battles the boss is accompanied by a bunch of cronies who will endlessly respawn. Since Raiho, as an enemy, has no real weak point you are going to have to do this the hard way. Try to get a demon who can resist ice attacks and isn't weak vs. fire, preferably one who fights in melee. That way you can double team Raiho. Since you really can't do anything to stop Raiho you will have to do stay really agressive with him. Use your gun to stop him for even a moment and then lunge at him. Keep him as stunned as you can with twin sword strikes, gun shots and thrust attacks. You can do some serious damage to the boss by mixing it up like this. Thrust at him, shoot him and then combo him from a distance or do a twin sword slash and then shoot him to stun him before slashing some more. Eventually he will go down and it shouldn't be all that hard. ------------------- ==================================================== 7.15 - Hard Mode ==================================================== When you start a Second Cycle game you will have the choice to play the game in Hard Mode. You will be warned that this is for experienced players only and they aren't joking around. Hard mode is very difficult and it will require a lot of patience and dedication on your part. Things are so much harder to do on this difficulty that it can be very unenjoyable if you aren't somewhat of a masochist. Listed below are the changes to be aware of: * MAG costs are roughly tripled for all things. * Items in Kunnou-Ya cost about three times the normal price. This means that money will be even more important in this difficulty than it was on the easier normal difficulty. * Recovering demons from the Gouma Den Compendium costs at least five times the normal price. This is really bad news, meaning early demons will cost at least twelve thousand or so to get back early in the game. * You inflict less damage to the enemies. Even your best three hit combo, with your sword Forged all the way to the max, will do little in the ways of damage. * The enemies inflict at least double damage to Raidou. Even the easiest of the Obaryion demons can kill you early on with their Combo skill so be very careful of how close melee enemies get to you. Listed below are some notes to help take the edge off of hard mode. If you find yourself having problems, these should be able to help at least a little. Some were lifted from earlier in the document while others are entirely new. - Increase Raidou's Magic stat as fast as you can. Not only will this increase your demons stats but it will lower the MAG cost associated with summoning your demons. If you don't do this you will quickly find yourself running low on MAG. - On the Hard difficulty the MAG costs to summon a demon will be approximately three times whatever they were in the main game. While not a problem at first, it becomes a big one near Episode 3. Some of the earlier demons can cost around 5 MAG on the normal difficulty, meaning that every time you summon them on the Hard they will cost 15 instead. This applies to both in and out of battle. So switching between demons becomes something of a cost ineffective prospect. This means you will have to increase your Magic rating as soon as possible to lower this cost. Otherwise you might find yourself without a demon helper in the middle of a boss fight. - While it is of dubious use on the normal difficulty, MAG exchanging is of the utmost importance on the Hard difficulty. - Never fuse demons or buy extra bullets unless you need them. Money is a prime resource on hard difficulty and you should only use it when necessary. If you desperately need a demon to complete a boss fight, fuse it. However if you are looking to replace your Ukobach with another fire demon hunt down an Orthrus or Pyro Jack and capture it yourself. Then trade your Ukobach for MAG. - Block! Blocking is the most important skill to learn on hard. It is very possible, and quite likely, that larger enemies will kill you in one or maybe two shots. If you block you will increase your chances of surviving harder fights, and most boss battles for that matter. - As a general battle strategy make ample use of your gun. Even if an enemy is not weak to any of the bullets you have use normal bullets to stun them long enough to get into melee. Many of the enemies in this game are spellcasters and they don't need to get anywhere near you to do serious damage to you. - Never buy more than 30 bullets at a time unless you're sure you will need them. Also never carry more than 65 of them. This way you will always have the ability to pick them up after fights or in crystals and you can sell the extra off for some quick money. - Try to not carry more than 6 of any item unless you think it will be needed, this goes double for revival items. You will find plenty of them throughout the course of the game so try to never buy them and sell yourself down to 6. While you might need to rebuy the item later you are leaving your options open. ========================================================= 8. Im a huge video game fan, although I dont have the time to play as much anymore. I love writing reviews, but Im going to start trying to do more FAQs as well.
