    I think MM2 is so overrated and I wouldn't even put it in a top 50 NES games, same for Kid Icarus, LoZ and Metroid. I like a lot of underrated games better like Bucky O'Hare and Vice: Project Doom. I'm a pretty strict critic and so I rarely give games a 9 because I feel that everything has flaws. This is my top 50 though and my ratings: 1. Ninja Gaiden 2 (1990) - 9.2 2. Kirby's Adventure (1993) - 9.1 3. Super Mario Bros 3 (1990) - 9.0 4. Zen: The Intergalactic Ninja (1993, with to me the best visuals and music in NES history and lots of variety, making it to me the most underrated game of all time.) - 8.9 5. Bucky O'Hare (1992) - 8.9 6. Castlevania 3 (1990) - 8.8 7. Super C (1990) - 8.7 8. Vice: Project Doom (1991) - 8.7 9. Mega Man 4 (1991) - 8.6 10. Kickmaster (1992) - 8.6 11. Faxanadu (1988) - 8.6 12. Gargoyle's Quest 2 - 8.6 13. Crystalis (1991) - 8.5 14. Battle of Olympus (1988) - 8.5 15. Abadox (1989) - 8.5 16. Mega Man 6 (1994) - 8.5 17. Gun Nac (1990) - 8.5 18. Willow (1989) - 8.5 19. S.C.A.T (1991) - 8.5 20. Little Nemo (1989) - 8.4 21. Ninja Gaiden (1991) - 8.4 22. Metal Storm (1991) - 8.4 23. Power Blade (1991) - 8.4 24. Life Force (1988) - 8.4 25. Shatterhand (1991) - 8.4 26. Street Fighter (1991) - 8.4 27. Mega Man 3 (1990) - 8.3 28. Mike Tyson's Punch Out! (1987) - 8.3 29. Blaster Master (1988) - 8.3 30. The Guardian Legend (1991) - 8.3 31. Darkwing Duck (1992) - 8.3 32. Totally Rad (1991) - 8.3 33. Ninja Gaiden (1989) - 8.2 34. Mega Man 5 (1992) - 8.2 35. Batman: Return of the Joker (1991) - 8.2 36. Super Mario Bros 2 (1987) - 8.2 37. Shadow of the Ninja (1991) - 8.2 38. Ducktales (1988) - 8.2 39. Adventure Island 2 (1990) - 8.2 40. Tiny Toon Adventures (1991) - 8.2 41. Journey to Silius (1990) - 8.2 42. Kabuki Quantum Fighter (1991) - 8.2 43. Burai Fighter (1991) - 8.2 44. Batman (1989) - 8.0 45. Contra (1988) - 8.0 46. G.I.Joe (1991) - 8.0 47. Little Mermaid (1991) - 8.0 48. Legendary Wings (1988) - 8.0 49. Conquest of the Crystal Palace (1991) - 8.0 50. Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu (1991) - 8.0 My favorite Mega Man title is 4 for bringing the most to me such as the charge shot and an extra castle for more length. I'd still give Mega Man 2 a fair rating of about 7.3 but I think it and especially it's soundtrack is way overrated (seriously, I can find so many better soundtracks that it's unbelievable). For the time (remember, the original was early in the NES era way back in 1987), I feel that Mega Man 2 is the worst and least impressive of the 8-bit outings. I guess opinions are opinions but I'm sick of hearing about this game.

Edit: Ninja Gaiden 3 is at number 20, not the first one. You can probably tell by the date though (1991)

Also for number 26 I meant Street Fighter 2010.

Punch out at 28 is silly. try top 10

Shadow of the Ninja is amazing. Wish it was on here. Talk about an under-appreciated game. Co-op with lots of abilities you could use. Great gameplay and enemies. Wasn't a big fan of Rush N Attack. I know it was super popular, but never thought it was that great.

I know, it's a great game. Another good 1991 NES co-op ninja game was Ninja Crusaders, although Shadow Of The Ninja is better to me. An underrated game to me is a 1989 shooter called Abadox. I love that game.

Wow no déjà vu? What game for the nes let you participate in Gambling, pill popping, and mysterious murders, wasn't many realistic games like déjà vu on the nes. Little nemo dream master didn't make the cut? I would have at least thought little nemo dream master would be up there with duck tales and rescue rangers.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game should be higher on this list. It is easily a top 10 or top 20 NES game.
  • scottsweatshirt - April 30, 2014 10:03 p.m.

    1. Marble Madness 2. Paperboy 3. Dusty Diamonds All-Star Softball 4. California Games 5. Renegade 6. Bart Simpson v. Space Mutants

R.B.I. Baseball makes the list and not the far superior Baseball Stars? Baseball Stars is the first sports game with rpg elements (improve player stats, fire and hire new players) In my world Baseball Stars is in the top 20 if not 10 in NES games! Its a crap list without this ground breaking game which like Punch Out is actually better on the NES than the arcade!

What about Astyanax? Clash at Demonhead or The Guardian Legend? Those were some good games too. However River City Ransom should have been in the top 10 IMO.... Good list anyway.

"None of the other games get as close to perfection as this one does. The other NES entries have at least one or two minor issues that can’t be ignored. " Megaman 2 is not perfect. The dragon boss for example, has a spot where if you jump to the highest block and jump too high, you can die. Die there and you are back to the mid point before the item section. Use up all of item 2? Go back and grind weapon energy! The crashman room boss is another example. You get limited shots and can only use that weapon to not only destroy the boss but doors protecting them. Miss or come into the room without full crash bomb energy? You are screwed and have to grind energy again! These two examples are glaring instances of issues and enough for me to see megaman 3 as the superior game.

One of my favorite NES games has always been Crystalis. Definitely top 5. And I also agree with Megaman 2 being the best one on NES the others just didn't have the same magic even to this day I compare all Megaman games to that one it was perfect.

what about Gremlins:the new batch ???it was very good with many beautiful soundtracks
  • mganai - October 22, 2012 6:23 p.m.

I contend the NES version of Contra is the superior version. The only area it comes short on is graphics.
