The fact that Legend of Legaia isn't on this list is just a Crime it the pinnacle of JRPG's surpassing FF7 in story and Battle System. The best JRPG of last gen has to be Lost Odyssey simply because it captured to magic of the old Final Fantasy leading me to say it is the real FF XIII it just pisses me off that it's only on Xbox and because of that it didn't get the popularity it deserved Ni No Kuni is also a Legendary RPG

I agree with the list even though I haven't played most of them yet however I would like to see the a game from the Xeno- series somewhere up there. Xenogears is a classic, the Xenosega series(my personal favorite) had a good, albeit confusing, storyline, and characters who each had their own storys and reasons to fight as well as connectable. And the lastly the Xenoblade which is hailed as one the greatest rpgs of this generation

    One word: Xenogears.

Where is Romancing Saga 3, or any Ys game? (I know Ys is an ARPG so I guess it doesnt even belong here anyways... :P)
  • kelop - September 14, 2012 11 a.m.

I agree with Chrono Trigger and Skies of Arcadia (Even though I've never played SOA, but I'd love to.) Dragon Quest VIII is okay, but I think maybe VII or IX would be better there. I disagree with Paper Mario and Final Fantasy X. Although I've never played Paper Mario, I don't think it's very fair to put it on the BEST JRPG's list as it was just the company trying the overproduced series in a different genre. It's basically in a territory that it shouldn't be in, it's like if someone joined every competition available just because they're popular. I don't think it's fair for other games that are only RPG's and probably have more detail to them. I don't agree with FF X because I find the game pretty boring, I think if anything FF IX should be there instead. As for games I think should be there, well one of the Suikoden games of course! My favorite series of all time, and although unknown... Suikoden I and II are fan favorites. The Suikoden games bring in an array of different concepts and gameplay values that make the games so great!

Totally disagree. Just because Mario is from a non-RPG franchise doesn't mean he's in territory he doesn't belong in. It's an interesting universe for an RPG series (believe it or not), so they took advantage of it. The game had a fun story, loveable characters, great battle system and mechanics. That's what makes a good RPG. And I like how you compared it to RPGs that "probably have more detail to them." You've never played it! Trust me, it has quite a bit of "detail" and is just a REALLY good series, within an even bigger series. But I agree that Suikoden would've been good on the list. And I didn't really like FFX.

In regards to the bit about pokemon - 'and the most recent one is the strongest yet.' 'B/W also had the best plot in Pokemon history' No. To whoever, please don't try to suck up to the younger generations. The plot was sappy, and fairly boring. I much preferred to watch the development of giovanni's son in the original G/S games, and battle the evil team rocket as they kicked arse. Team plasma were fairly pathetic, and 'N' was an extremely tedious character. The pokemon designs were shit, the music was less thrilling, and the game was easier to complete than the original red/blue. Don't insult people with the whole 'NEW IS BETTER' shebang. B/W was to pokemon what Jar jar binks was to star wars. Shit.

i am missing Lufia 2 rise of the sinistrals from the snes, its one of the best games ever, good story, nice plots, almost no holes, nice extra s and you will cry at the end of the game. there was only one problem of the game itself, if your level was high enough the last bosses of the game were way to easy, good news on that part, people made patches for the snes game so that the last bosses are hard as hell. and i know another good game, but its not turn based though, its called terranigma in my eyes the best game ever made. i dont know where to start but, every gamer try terranigma.

Actually agreeing with most of this list. One of my personal favorites is Paper Mario as well as Earthbound, Pokemon, and Chrono Trigger. I agree with the placement of most of these, and FFVI is my favorite of the FF's too (although one of my friends would say 9). I personally don't care for FFX, but I can see why it's here. I also think that Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga is just slightly better than Paper Mario. It's very possibly the funniest game I've ever played.
  • samsneeze - July 23, 2012 8:16 a.m.

I can't really disagree with the list aside from Final Fantasy X, but everything else is fine I guess. It's not the same as my own personal list, but there are similarities, namely Skies of Arcadia. I love that game.
  • winner2 - July 23, 2012 5:53 a.m.

paper mario was a favorite of mine
  • vincent-wolf - July 23, 2012 12:12 a.m.

Not putting 7 on first place makes this list wrong, not putting it in list at all makes this list just a pointless "WE JUST THINK SO!" list. Good job on a pointless list.
  • samsneeze - July 23, 2012 7:23 a.m.

You didn't include my favorite game? I'M MAD!
  • Hashbaz - August 8, 2012 4:07 p.m.

Maybe that's because 7 was just 6 with better graphics, less content, and less interesting characters? Kefka is the original one winged angel, and way cooler than Sephiroth. Shadow's death was painful because he was a good character, Aerith's death was kind of welcome because she was weak and overbearing. Now before you get all over me, I think 7 was a great game, I still have fond memories of it, and I think it belongs up there more than 10, but if six is already up there then seven is represented in spirit.
  • morbid_curiosity - August 11, 2012 2:30 a.m.

I agree 100%...FFVI was just an all around better gaming experience from beginning to end. The characters were more interesting and more fleshed out, and there is no comparison to the fantastic opera scene! I've played through all the games - even the ones I didn't like at all, which was everything after IX until XII came out...but then XIII ruined it.
  • thefreakysurgeon - July 22, 2012 10:30 p.m.

The EarthBound series is my favorite RPG series (and game series in general), so it being ranked at #2 is 100% fine with me! But please, Nintendo, for the love of God, LOCALIZE MOTHER 3!!
  • codystovall - July 22, 2012 10:06 p.m.

Pokemon and paper mario should be higher and Tales of Symphonia is absent but whatevers its your list. Though how earthbound is so high when theres like 3 of them which havent been...whatever...
  • switchgear1131 - July 25, 2012 6:05 p.m.

Tales of Symphonia and all Tales games are not turned base and are more real time rpgs which were deliberately left of this list.
  • skinz987 - July 22, 2012 7:44 p.m.

Ah...hate and discontent. Personally, I think the list is fairly accurate. However, I would take off Paper Mario and add in Phantasy Star. It's a shame that people complain about nothing but old games being on here, as well as the lack of FF7. But I tell myself, most of the people on this board bitching about JRPG's never had the pleasure of getting a free copy of Dragon Warrior in their Nintendo Power. Their opinions mean nothing to me, because they never grew up with the classics, just revisted them later in life after being tainted with the emo bullsh*t that sadly taints the games of today.
  • sirdilznik - July 23, 2012 5:46 a.m.

I agree that a Phantasy Star game desperately needs to be on this list, Phantasy Star IV if I were to pick just one. For such an amazing series it's unfathomable how often it gets overlooked.
