Activision's Blood Drive is real and just as ridiculous as predicted

Last week, we stumbled across Amazon's listing for an upcoming vehicular combat game published by Activision which purported itself to be chock-full of  “zombies with attitudes,” “motorized vehicles on steroids,” and other super rad bullet-points. Well, hold on to your maggoty racing caps, because apparently Blood Drive is the real deal, and here are the pics to prove it...

Due out this November for the Xbox 360 and PS3, Blood Drive pits driver versus driver in a zombie-infested, post-apocalyptic contest of skill, speed and stomach weakness. Framed as televised events, gamers will put pedal to the metal in a number of brutally gruesome tournaments and challenges staged throughout 'Lost' Vegas' city streets and wastelands. The game will also feature online multiplayer, and, as mentioned, lots and lots of zombies.

Perhaps the best part of this announcement is press release itself, which reads like a Tarantino-esque parody of grindhouse/zombie media. Or maybe it isn’t being that clever, and is honestly just ridiculous. In addition to listing undead frat boys and strippers, Activision's press release also promises that, “with such a target rich environment, it won’t take you long before you send the endless mass of blood-thirsty zombies and battle hardened maniacs back to hell, one bloody tire-tread at a time!”

Adds David Pokress with Activision publishing, “Over-the-top vehicular combat and zombies are two things that go great together. What more is there to say?”

Indeed, Mr.Pokress. Indeed.  (Slow clap.) See more screens of the “motorized vehicles on steroids” below:

Games that didn't need zombies
How these overrated monsters almost ruined some of our favorite franchises

The Top 7 ... Ridiculous in-game vehicles
Nuh-uh – we're not driving THAT

yeah, this is slightly ridiculous... when you posted the original article mentioning it all that went through my head waws 'carmageddon...carmageddon...etc'. After seeing the screenshots i'm surprised they aren't being sued for completely ripping off everything about the game - the visual styles, the HUD, the way the cars look... I'd be looking forwards to this game, except for the fact that Activison are probably 60-70% likely to balls this up somehow (either through the game itself, or just through anything genuinely cool being made into extortionate DLC) dammit - someone rehire the carmageddon guys and let them do it properly. Oh, and tell them to make a new MDK title as well!

  • mentalityljs - September 11, 2010 7:13 p.m.

Just like State of Emergency, this will get real old and repetetive, real quick. New-Gen Twisted Metal Please!
  • BigWillis - September 11, 2010 6:52 p.m.

    Wait...That is just Carmageddon...
  • AlSwearengenHatesCocksuckers - September 11, 2010 5:48 p.m.

"Hey we just got done making that vehicular combat game you wanted, but no one seems to give a shit, what should we do?" "Just throw some fucking zombies in it."
  • DryvBy - September 11, 2010 5:35 p.m.

Carmageddon meets Twisted Metal? I'm down!
  • oz997 - September 11, 2010 8:05 a.m.

What is it with zombies and Las Vegas? This and Dead Risisng 2 both have outbreaks originating there.
  • elpurplemonkey - September 11, 2010 4:44 a.m.

No part can gather any semblance of interest in this game. It just looks like Twisted Metal with zombies- with all the character and charmed of TM taken out of it. I'm bored just looking at those screens.
  • SwampRock - September 11, 2010 4:08 a.m.

I remember playing a game like this long ago, but don't remember the name. All I remember were zombies, and vehicles.
  • kyle94 - September 11, 2010 1:59 a.m.

Wasn't a game made for the PS1 or something that was just like this, where you ran over zombies? Hell, the censored versions of Carmageddon had you running over zombies.
  • SolarPoweredShitMachine - September 11, 2010 12:20 a.m.

I dunno. This might be A POSITIVE move from Activision. I suppose I'll just have to B POSITIVE until it comes out. [/stolenpun]
  • TheIronMaiden - September 10, 2010 11:18 p.m.

and I love how cocky activision seems about this game.
  • Mamudo - September 10, 2010 11:18 p.m.

As much as I like zombies, I getting tired of seeing them everywhere. Zombies don't go with everything.
  • TheIronMaiden - September 10, 2010 11:17 p.m.

hmmm breaking the game up into tv episodes huh....sounds like split second and that game was better than how this one's looking so far. Keep my eyes peeled though.
  • ElderGamer - September 10, 2010 11:12 p.m.

Class A game Activision. Just top notch. I've never seen an incredibly similar game on Steam like this before.
  • GoldenMe - September 10, 2010 11:07 p.m.

Bleh. Those screenshots does not give justice to the game. The graphics looks almost last-gen to be honest.
