3DS release date and price to be revealed September 29

Nothing like the announcement of an announcement to get the blood pumping

Words: on July 29, 2010

When we first saw the 3DS at E3, I think everyone agreed that right release date for the 3DS should be “immediately,” and the price should be “whatever you want, just give it to me now!” Still, Nintendo has been cagey with any details for the fancy new handheld. But hot on the heels of rumors that it will launch in Japan in October, Nintendo announced it will finally hold a press conference on September 29 where all will be revealed.

Above: Maybe if we hold our breath and stamp our feet, Nintendo will release this now

The timing seems to be based around the Tokyo Game Show, Japan’s answer to E3, which is happening Mid-September. Traditionally Nintendo sits out the actual show but usually has major announcements timed around it. In past years, Nintendo has premiered the Wii Remote and announced new games and system price cuts during the TGS time frame. So it makes sense that the publisher would schedule such big news around the event this year as well.

Rumors of the price and date have been swirling since Nintendo announced the 3DS. On Jimmy Fallon’s talk show in late June, Nintendo big wig Reggie Fils-Aime said it comes out next year, then Nintendo corrected him saying it could come sooner. Though we do know with relative certainty it will be out by March 31, 2011. And what will it cost? Vague reports are all we have, but it's looking expensive, with a couple retailers putting it in the $200/£140 range. Sadly, it seems that the only way to get answers is through endurance and patience. Boo!!!

I'm getting anxious for the 3DS to come out. I seriously hope it comes out for the holidays this year, though I highly doubt it.

I hope it's $200 in Australia, the new model xbox is $450 without games or a controller.

I was never a DS guy, preferred PSP. This is totally going to blow the PSP out of the freaking water though. I actually think I might get one of these bad boys. Unless I hear of a PSP2 that actually has 2 analog sticks or something, the 3DS will steal my allegiance.

Oh, holy hell, I want this now.
As long as it's not the "ok let's release this right now wiithout anywarning or games, people like that rite" kind of coming soon.

and HeroOfLegend is probably right. 200$ seems about it.

I have full faith in nintendo that they will make it a reasonable price. I wonder how much the games will cost

    @Fiirestorm21
I dont think its that nobody thinks Pachter will be wrong, its just that in this instance he is pretty much just stating the obvious.

It can´t be more than $200.00
My guess is either $179.00 or $199.00.

I'm really looking forward to this but based on past Nintendo form I'm gonna wait a few months after the 3DS' release for the newer 3D-ier version Nintendo will surely announce.

As much as everyone loves to rag on Pachter, I think he's going to be end up being right, or at least reasonably close to it, on this one. Absolutely no less than $180 or so (about where the DSi is now) and easily up to $250. As this article jokingly refers to, people will buy it. And Nintendo damn well knows it.

That said, I'm not going to be one of those people. At least not until I see more than remakes, ports, and Kid Icarus. (Hey! It's the PSP all over again!)

nun004 i dont think it would be a smart idea for something not relased to be demoed at stores because then people would want it right then and there.

Okay then, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY -

    http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=257754?cid=OTC-RSS&attr=CVG-General-RSS

    Now I feel bad.

Also, correction on my last comment, the "It's going to cost between £180-£200" part is simply my own prediction. Nintendo only vaguely discussed the RRP.

Probably made the article sound better than it actually is, come to think of it :/
