3DS online store will not be available on launch day

If you were planning on transferring your DSiWare titles and buying classic Game Boy games for your 3DS on launch day, you'd better put those plans on hold. During Nintendo's quarterly earnings call, company president Satoru Iwata said that there will be a very important update to the 3DS in late May.

The update will include the system's "eShop," which will add a Virtual Console that offers classic Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles - many of which have not been resurrected since their original releases more than a decade ago. The eShop also promises game trailers and 3D videos.

The update will also allow DSi owners will be able to transfer their downloaded games to the 3DS, though details about how exactly that will happen are still not perfectly clear. And finally, it will bring an Internet browser to the 3DS.

People need to not flip out about this. It will come out when it comes out, just like any Steam game. When it gets here, you aren't going to care how long you had to wait- you'll only care you have it now.

That's a shame, but I usually don't buy stuff for the Virtual Console so I guess it doesn't matter to me. But I can see why people would be upset.

@Laland, Exactly, and maybe pokemon, but nothing else tingle me more than the OoT besides all the N64 Games that may come to the 3DS. What with the freaking captcha stuff for commention? seriously wtf.

Wow wtf again, first the launch games, which was the best launch games in console history mind you, get delayed to "launch window" and now the online store is pushed back. Just don't release this in March Nintendo, duh.

Wait wait wait...are the original Pokemon games going to be available for download? If so i'm definitely getting it.

That makes two of us, spongejerk. But I'm starting to lean more towards the NGP anyway. The 3DS doesn't have anything besides the Ocarina of Time remake that I'm really looking forward too.

I actually wasn't aware that the 3DS was going to have an online store AT ALL, so I'm kind of happy to hear this...

Nintendo just doesn't get the whole online thing.

Late May? Wow. The more I read, the more I fear that nintendo dropped the ball on this one. That PSP2 is looking rather tasty
