$15,000 Marvel vs Capcom 2 money match marks the end of an era

In what has to be one of the most hype moments in a game with a long history of them, pro MvC2 players Clockw0rk and Neo went toe to toe this weekend at the West Coast Warzone tournament, each of them putting fifteen thousand dollars on the line in a truly epic money match. The match was a first to 15 wins scenario, so prepare yourself for 90 minutes of great MvC2 play, screaming commentary and a positively electric crowd. Competitive fighting game videos don't get much better than this:

Even more interesting is the fact that both players avoid the typical Magneto/Storm/Sentinel mirror matches usually seen in pro MvC2 play; Neo opts for Cyclops and his shoryuken assist while Clockw0rk sticks with his patented (and awesome to watch) Strider/Doctor Doom lockdown tactic. Even if you're not a huge MvC2 fan, the energy and excitement here is palpable (and audible), and the pro commentary from Justin Wong and other players really adds to the hype. MvC2 made it's final EVO tournament appearance last year at EVO 2010, and this insane exclamation point is a great way to send off one of the most beloved fighting games of all time and usher in the upcoming MvC3.

that was so intense!! and what in the world was happening in the background!? Sweet and sour sauce to the face? they're pulling ultra combos off in real life!

This was an awesome match. I never get tired of watching Clockw0rk's Strider/Doom. Can't wait for MvC3.

The "color commentary" guy's constant berating of the fighters really gets to me, and I'm only at the 2-3 mark. Dude may be a bad-ass fighting-game guy in his own right, but you never bury the performers on stage no matter how much better you are than them.

    Make that 3-1 mark.

That was completely crazy. It sucks that once Neo switched to Commando Clockw0rk started losing horribly.

it makes me sad that this is really as mike ross said it the end of the hype. Justin's commentary was pretty much spot on for most of it. I'm gonna miss the old clockw0rk style since strider isn't in marvel 3. Props to anyone who actually knows this game and what the quotes mean, besides some silly internet theme they think is funny. Played this since I was a kid and loved the actual superhero and fighter mashup that actually worked, the hype is unmatched, the gameplay is broken but perfect for a superhero game.

I understood around 6 words those commentators said... but damn the fight that ended at 11:00 was EPIC!

I never really got into this game. Going to pick up the new one though, I only started playing Street Fighter two years ago when IV came out so I'm fairly new to that style of fighter. But I do love watching MvC2.
