12 matchups we want to see in Street Fighter X Tekken

Two perennial badasses designed to appeal to angsty teenagers and Sepiroth fans, these two are regular guys turned evil, given in to their urge to win at all costs. A variation of the palette swap, the evil character is a classic shortcut for lazy designers looking to pad out their rosters without having to go to the trouble of actually designing a new character. Slap an exisiting model in a dark outfit, put some flames or wings on them and boom, another character done.

While we can’t be sure, we have a feeling that when these two throw down there'll be a lot of dramatic yelling as they breathe heavily, charging their power before a big energy explosion destroyssome nearbytrees or something. When evil anime characters fight, it’s always the environment that suffers.

All told, this lazy reuse of existing material is a shameful way to avoid having to do extra work.

Fun Fact: The Satsui no Hado and Devil Gene are excuses for tinkering with exisiting charactersin order to save time.

While fledging fighting games are too busy trying to make a balanced roster, veteran franchises become so desperate for new characters that they make the joke fighter, a character intentionally designed to be incompetent, weak, or awkward. Dan, who’s history was immaculately detailed here, was the first, and remains the most beloved despite his flacid fireballs and flailing signature kick.

After being a story characterin the first two Tekken games, Namco decided to make Dr. Boskonovitch playable in Tekken3. In case you’re not aware, Dr. B is a 91 year old scientist with no special powers or weapons. While Dan’s fighting style revolves primarily around taunting and being a goof, Dr. Boskonovitch’s fighting style is primarily composed of falling down or frantically hurling his body at the opponent. They're a perfect match.

Fun Fact: Dr. B is responsible for creating Roger Alex, P. Jack and a slew of the robotic characters in Tekken.

Primal Rage fans rejoice, as hot n' heavy dino on dino action might be back. While Hauzer isn’t a Street Fighter character (he’s from Capcom’s Red Earth), we decided we’d fudge the rules since he appeared alongside some Street Fighters in Capcom Fighting Jam. Technically speaking though, Gon isn’t really a Tekken character either, he’s a little dinosaur from an obscure manga thatmade a cameoin Tekken 3 for some reason.

Admittedly, it doesn’t seem like much of a fight given that Hauzer is a full sized Tyrannosaurus Rexwith crazy horns and Gon is a chibi version with 3 inch long arms, but in this dino fighting game drought, we’ll take what we can get.

Fun Fact: Gon takes only one damage from True Ogre’s otherwise devastating flame attack.

Thanks to the Street Fighter Wiki and Tekken Wiki for the more obscure info!
