Vin Diesel talks voicing Groot in Guardians Of The Galaxy

Vin Diesel has been anything but inconspicuous about his forthcoming collaboration with Marvel, having recently posted an image of Guardians Of The Galaxy character Groot on his Facebook page.

Now Diesel has been asked about the character, and while he stops short of official confirmation, he doesn’t take any steps to deny it either!

“As an actor, not everything has to be the most obvious choice,” says Diesel, when asked about the character. “And sometimes, the best thing you can do — as far as Steven Spielberg and his advice — is to defy expectations.”

“So if everybody thinks you’re going to go for this one thing and you flip it entirely and go for the strangest Marvel character, it’s interesting. And when something is interesting, it’s inspiring.”

As to why he posted the Groot image on his Facebook, Diesel says it was also a matter of inspiration.

“I get inspired by things. So if somebody sends me a book of conceptual art that’s the best character design work I’ve ever seen, I see that and I want to be a little cryptic and I want to say something positive.”

There you go, Marvel… it’s not indiscretion, it’s inspiration! In fairness to Diesel, he's something of a one-man marketing machine with his Facebook page, which currently has more than 45 million fans. Directed by James Gunn, Guardians Of The Galaxy will open in the UK on 1 August 2014.
