Xbox 360 owners the most likely to buy digital games

With its slate of Xbox Live Arcade downloads, Xbox Live Indie Games, Xbox Originals, and Games on Demand, the 360 has quite a large selection of downloadable titles - over 2,500 in total (with indie titles accounting for more than half).

The PS3 has far less available content, but according to the EEDAR data, it's still doing well at attracting consumers to downloadable games. Sony's console sits right behind the 360, with nearly 50% of its users saying they downloaded a PS3 game last year. That's a jump up from 42% in 2009.

The Wii, meanwhile, is sitting in third place with 43% of Wii owners having purchased a digital game for the console - an increase from 37% in the previous year.

At the same time, prices for digitally distributed games are rising. EEDAR noted the average price for a downloadable console game is now $10. On the Xbox 360, the average price has risen from $8 in 2006 to $11 in 2010 - the highest among all consoles, likely because of the large amount of full retail games available for download.
