A good amount of set photos from Thor: Ragnarok made their way online a few weeks ago, and there was one particular image that got fans' attention. It featured Chris Hemsworth's Asgardian hero holding a business card with 177A Bleecker Street written on it - the address of Doctor Strange, for those not in the know - and as such, it wasn't a big leap to assume that Benedict Cumberbatch's Sorcerer Supreme (who we'll be getting introduced to in a couple months) will be making an appearance in Taika Waititi's film.
While doing press for the brilliant Hunt for the Wilderpeople (read our review here) the director was asked about the aforementioned pic, and his response was very coy:
"Ohhh I don’t know. I am not sure if… I don’t know actually", Waititi told Digital Spy. "I can’t comment on it. It may have just been something for the fans… Might be something like that. Might be a little tease. Or maybe a tease just for people who wanted to zoom into that photo".
I have a hard time believing that Marvel and Waititi wouldn't immediately squash a rumour as big as this if it was 100% false - on that note, Marvel still haven't officially confirmed Zendaya is Mary Jane in Spider-Man: Homecoming yet either - so I think it's still safe to say that Cumberbatch will be making a cameo of sorts in Thor: Ragnarok next year. Exactly why the Prince of Asgard is paying the good Doctor a visit, however, is a mystery fans will be keen to speculate on in the months leading up to the film's release.
Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, Cate Blanchett, Karl Urban, and Mark Ruffalo, Thor: Ragnarok will be released in UK cinemas on October 27, 2017 before opening in US theatres on November 3, 2017.
