Steve Jobs dead at 56

The only thing harder than predicting the future is creating it. Steve Jobs did just that. As co-founder of Apple computers, chief executive of Pixar Animation, and inventor of more technology patents than we could ever list, Jobs paved the way for our technologically-advanced future, first with the Apple II and more recently with the iPhone and iPad. Today, Apple has announced that he has passed away at the age of 56 with a small remembrance on their website.

"Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple."

Jobs worked closely within Apple up until August, when he had to step down as CEO for health reasons. Through sickness and health he created new ways for us to interface with the digital world, spurring on technological revolutions and trends with every step.

And while Jobs rarely made gamers a priority, his creations have led to a new generation of games that can be enjoyed by anyone at almost any time. Because of his portable media devices video games are more accessible than ever, and new, innovative creations are being made available every day for the iPhone and iPad.

Jobs also had a hand in the early era of video games, working with Nolan Bushnell on the Atari and helping to streamline the circuit board for the first versions of Breakout. Apple has created an email address to contact to share “your thoughts, memories, and condolences,” which can be accessed .
