The glorious age of virtual reality gaming may arrive sooner that expected, says Mick Hocking, head of Sony's stereoscopic 3D think tank. Chatting with BBC Click's Kate Russell in a pre-interview for the b.TWEEN 3D industry event in London, UK, Hocking said Sony it is close to perfecting 3D tech that would, amongst other things, provide gamers with the fully realized virtual experience they've been dreaming of for decades.
"So we have our new HMD - our head-mounted display - which we launched at CES this year, and you can see that we can now get back to where we really wanted to get with virtual reality in the '80s,” said Hocking, later adding, “We've now got the power to do it, we've got the screen resolution to do it, we've got the processing power to update fast enough so that we can have very, very immersive experiences on head-mounted displays in gaming in the not too distant future."

Virtual reality seems like the next logical step for gaming. Let's just hope it doesn't lead to hooking up game pods to our bio ports and making guns out of diseased animal parts. What? You've never seeneXistenZ?
