Continuing id's series of behind-the-scenes videos for its upcoming return to FPS form, Rage, here's a trailer entitled “The Enemies.” You're a smart cookie, so you'll have probably ascertained the clip's general thrust. A selection of id's top bods explain why some enemies should be fast, while others should have big guns - and how the enemies you face should get tougher as you go along. Together with some intriguing new gameplay footage, you’ll also find more details on the level of detail that's gone into Rage’s animations - here's the clip.
Of course, the great thing about being id is that, if anyone accuses you of bowing to convention, you can simply load up any of your golden-age work (give it a while, DOS programs can take their time) and ask who exactly invented those conventions. The clip makes clear that while Rage's enemies won't appear entirely foreign to anyone who's shot at fantastical beasties, like Splicers, Covenant or Nazis, the team has a good grasp on why everything's in the game – raising the hope that, just as before, id looks to provide fresh thrills within a familiar FPS context. Rage launches in October – looking forward to getting some playtime?
