New Elysium featurette shows off its robots: watch now

Elysium has released a new featurette online, giving us a behind the scenes look at the film’s different varieties of robot, referred to here as “droids”.

From the badass security droids to the ludicrously infuriating civil servant droid, there’s an insight into the thinking behind each design, with the WETA effects team on hand to talk through their creations.

Matt Damon and Neill Blomkamp also pop up to explain how the various droids fit into the world of Elysium , with Damon sounding particularly enthused by his robotic co-stars.

The film is set in a heavily segregated future, with Matt Damon’s rabble-rouser attempting to infiltrate the privileged space station Elysium, in order to save himself from a plague afflicting the ruined Earth below.

Directed by Blomkamp and co-starring Jodie Foster, William Fichtner and Sharlto Copley, Elysium will open in the UK on 21 August 2013.
