Lego: The Hobbit's rumored Five Armies DLC isn't happening (sorry Lake-town)

Remember how Lego: The Hobbit ends with Smaug flying off to wreak havoc on Lake-town? The story was supposedly meant to conclude with DLC based on The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies, but five months after the film hit theaters, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has said that's not going to happen.

Even though Lego: The Hobbit didn't have the most satisfactory ending, it was understandable, given that the game released before the third film. Reports from around its release indicated that owners could see the brick-ified fantasy story completed thanks to the magic of DLC.

Maybe we should've been a bit more dubious, given that the DLC would need to be created and released across nine platforms to reach all of Lego: The Hobbit's players. Warner Bros. has removed any doubt, telling GameSpot that "there are no plans to develop DLC based on the final film of the trilogy", and nor are there any plans to make a standalone game for Battle of the Five Armies.

Normally folks get upset about DLC existing, not the other way around. And it's not like owners have been fleeced out of free stuff, since you almost certainly would have had to pay for a whole 'nother film's worth of brick-smashing action - the original game already has plenty of stuff to do.

It just kinda sucks that it's going to be left on a cliffhanger forever. I guess you could buy some Lego kits and act out the third movie for yourself, but who wants to use their imagination?
