Zack Snyder and Warner Bros have a target in mind for the villain of Batman Vs. Superman , with Variety reporting that Joaquin Phoenix is top of their hit list.

The report claims that the main villain of the piece could be Superman’s old nemesis, Lex Luthor, and that Snyder believes Phoenix is just the man for the job.

No offer has been extended as yet, so this one is very much at the preliminary stages, but it gives some indication of the way Snyder is thinking…

Meanwhile, Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio has been brought in to give the script a lick of paint, which should be music to leading man Ben Affleck’s ears.

Directed by Snyder and co-starring Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot, Batman Vs. Superman will open in the US on 17 July 2015.
