Trolling your friends in Zelda: Tri Force Heroes is hilarious

Troll-Face Heroes

Troll-Face Heroes

It's rather touching how companionship is championed ahead of all else in The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes. Sure, you can play the game on your own, but if you do, it's a bit like playing ping pong against yourself, having to run around to the other side of the table, pick up the ball, and bat it back. Much better to get some friends involved, especially since you can troll them so hard. Nobody ever trolled themselves.

Now, I must point out that none of us at GamesRadar+ condone online trolling. But if you've got two close friends in the same room, you can probably have a laugh or two without losing too much karma. Here are my favourite methods for mischief so far...

Play 'Catch' with a mate... with a mate

Play 'Catch' with a mate... with a mate

The brilliant thing about Tri Force Heroes' 'totem' stacking feature is that only the player at the bottom can control movement. If you've been picked up, you can't move. You can fire arrows or throw bombs, but that won't help you. What does that mean? Two players can gang up on the third and play catch with them. Indefinitely.

Shake your pom poms instead of helping

Shake your pom poms instead of helping

Sometimes, it will be clear what needs to be done. And you could do it. Oh sure, you could do it. Or you could stand still and press the 'pom poms' emote button on the touch screen. Keep pressing it and the picture will be flipped, making it look like Link is actually waving his pom poms. With any luck, the second player will join in with you, leaving the third to turn molten with rage.

Die after the level's complete

Die after the level's complete

See the picture of the Tri Force up there? It only appears when the hard work is all done and the section is complete, and then all three characters have to stand on it to progress to the next area. After fighting your way through the level for 10 minutes, perhaps after several restarts, it's entirely possible to commit suicide and make everybody start the whole section again. Trololololol.

Fall off the log

Fall off the log

This is so easy to do convincingly because it's genuinely difficult to walk over the log due to the character movement being mapped solely to the circle pad and not the d-pad. So while everyone's waiting for you to cross the log, just keep falling off and swimming back round for another try. Apologising profusely and saying how embarrassed you are will mask your trollingness. You'll totally get away with it.

Or keep dropping the key

Or keep dropping the key

This also works with the first key, Just keep 'accidentally' throwing it in the water. It's hilarious. For you, I mean.

Don't help push the block

Don't help push the block

Sadly anyone in the room with you is going to say "come and help us move the block", which is difficult to argue with when you've loaded up a game with block puzzles in to play together. But going off to 'look for some pots with health in' is probably a decent enough excuse.

Abuse the Gust Jar

Abuse the Gust Jar

The Gust Jar is brilliant. You can use it to put out lanterns, or even blow a fellow player across to another platform. Or you could just gust them into some lava. There's not really any way to do this without laughing maniacally, so hopefully they'll just join in the fun.

And if you do get killed... smile

And if you do get killed... smile

Thumbs up for the guy who let everyone down... from the guy who let everyone down. Your friends will probably stop playing with you at this point, but hey - at least you had a good time, right?
