GR+ Live: Meet the writer of Senran Kagura Estival Versus on PS4

Senran Kagura is an unlikely series. What looks on the surface like the most lascivious sort of anime game hides an involved story beneath its pervy veneer. A fair description: it's about breasts, ninjas, interpersonal relationships, gender dysmorphia, gender identity, and friendship. Seriously. It's that dynamic that's earned the series an international following and multiple sequels.

Ryan Graff, the localization lead at XSEED Games, joined us to talk about localizing Senran Kagura Estival Versus on PlayStation 4 for the west, censorship, gender, representation in games, and much more.

I've been playing games since I turned four in 1986, been writing about them since 1987, and writing about them professionally since 2008. My wife and I live in New York City. Chrono Trigger is my favorite game ever made, Hum's Downward is Heavenward is my favorite album, and I regularly find myself singing "You Won't See Me" by The Beatles in awkward situations.
