Armadillo review

Cannes went crazy for this doc on the trail of a platoon of Danish soldiers in Afghanistan

Restrepo gets a companion piece in this similarly risky piece of Afghan war reportage.

This time, the platoon we follow is comprised of Danes. Interestingly, but for accents, the men are all but identical; more different is the focus on how coalition actions impact the local populace, and on complex questions asked from home about just how trigger-happy these soldiers should be.

Other questions could be asked about the ethics of creating thriller-style tension in the run-up to real combat, but there’s no denying the power of the images director Janus Metz Pedersen has captured.
