ARK: Survival of the Fittest brings dinosaur Hunger Games to PS4 on July 19

ARK: Survival Evolved is, as you might have surmised from the title, a survival genre game. But surviving isn't all you do in ARK; there's also PvP combat and dinosaurs to tame, and it's these aspects that primary developer Studio Wildcard has decided to spin off into its own game, titled ARK: Survival of the Fittest.

In Survival of the Fittest, up to 72 players are dropped into a map where they must scavenge and quickly build up gear so as to defeat the competition. Tribes can be formed and dinosaurs can be used as living weapons against foes, making this a sort of Hunger Games meets Jurassic Park scenario. The Hunger Games motif even extends to the giant screens projected into the sky throughout the match, which show when and how someone has died.

If any of this sounds familiar, it might be because both Survival Evolved and Survival of the Fittest have existed on PC for awhile now, but they've yet to make a home on PlayStation 4 Island. Survival Evolved is primed for a June launch on Sony's console, with Survival of the Fittest to follow shortly behind on July 19.
