Answering the call

It’s a film that few of us have heard of – indeed, it was barely screened for critics in the US. But the low-budget stalker thriller When A Stranger Calls, starring Camilla Belle, also happens to be a remake of the 1979 film which saw Carol Kane terrorised while babysitting. This new version, directed by Simon West (Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider), has snuck into number one this weekend at the US Box Office with $22 million.

It displaced the previous week’s champ, Martin Lawrence comedy Big Momma’s House 2, which dropped down to number two with $13.3 million.
