2K Games confirms layoffs at The Bureau: XCOM Declassified studio 2K Marin

2K Marin, the developer of The Bureau: XCOM Declassified and BioShock 2, has laid off a number of its employees. 2K Games addressed the staff reductions in a statement to Polygon.

"We can confirm staff reductions at 2K Marin," the publisher said. "While these were difficult decisions, we regularly evaluate our development efforts and have decided to reallocate creative resources. Our goal to create world-class video game titles remains unchanged."

The Bureau released in August to a tepid critical and commercial reception, after years of redesigns.

An unnamed source told Polygon that the "majority" of the studio has been let go and that the remaining developers are bound for Rod Fergusson's newly announced studio, which will also be located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

2K Games has not commented on the extent of the layoffs. A 2K representative provided the aforementioned statement when we asked if the reductions will impact The Bureau's slate of upcoming DLC.
