The Dark Lord is threatening to cover your shelves in a second darkness, because a Lego Sauron's Helmet set is on the way.
This 538-piece kit recreates the villain's armor as seen in The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring. Lego Sauron's Helmet comes with a display stand and a minifigure version of Middle-earth's chief bad guy (which ends up being a much cheaper way of getting it, seeing as it was only available in the Barad-dur model before now).
While it looks fantastic, I'm going to say something controversial: I think I'd prefer more book nooks instead. Again, the helmet is excellently made. I'm eager to see whether this gets turned into a full series as well, a la the Star Wars helmets. But for my money, there's a lot of untapped potential in the new book nook range. These have ended up being some of the toy-maker's best Lego sets from the past few years as far as I'm concerned, because they squeeze an incredible amount of detail (not to mention iconic scenes) into a small, display-friendly size. While I wasn't as wild about the Lord of the Rings version featuring Gandalf's face-off with the Balrog (I think it could have included a little more scenery at the back and on the sides), Harry Potter's Platform 93/4 and Baker Street from Sherlock Holmes are brilliantly done.
Because there are so many downright iconic shots from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, you could churn out banger after banger for years. Gandalf's arrival via cart to Bag End. The Fellowship awaiting a goblin attack in the Mines of Moria. The Ringwraiths' attack on Weathertop. The coronation scene from Return of the King. I mean, you get the idea.
