Todd Howard confirms Elder Scrolls 6… but "it's a very long way off"

More good-ish news on the Elder Scrolls front, following yesterday's announcement of Skyrim coming to PS4 and Xbox One: Bethesda chief game creator Todd Howard has confirmed that the Elder Scrolls 6 is on the way.

Following by the gutpunch you'll feel all the way to Tamriel and back: it's "a very long way off".

Howard made the comments in an interview with American journalist Geoff Keighley, during an interview for Youtube Live At E3.

"That's kind of like the elephant in the room when we talk about anything," says Howard in response to Keighley's enquiry about whether there'll be an Elder Scrolls 6. "I think it's good in these moments to tell our fans, "yes, of course we are. It's something we love." But it is – you know, I have to be careful what I say – it's a very long way off."

It's five years since Skyrim first appeared, and it may be five more before we see its true successor. Fus-ro-d'oh.

I'm GamesRadar's sports editor, and obsessed with NFL, WWE, MLB, AEW, and occasionally things that don't have a three-letter acronym – such as Chvrches, Bill Bryson, and Streets Of Rage 4. (All the Streets Of Rage games, actually.) Even after three decades I still have a soft spot for Euro Boss on the Amstrad CPC 464+.
