The new Thing movie will be heavily influenced by the "Who Goes There” the John W Campbell short story on which both the 1951 The Thing From Another World and John carpenter‘s The Thing were based. Set in a Norwegian camp, it chronicles how the shape-shifting alien was first discovered and overcame the inhabitants of that camp.
It seems difficult to imagine how the concept lends itself to anything other than a rehash, but hey, with a script by Ron Moore, we're happy to be proven wrong. “I’m just working on some re-writes,” Moore told SFX just a couple of weeks ago. “They still like it and everyone is still happy. We'll just kind of wait and see when and if it happens.” Looks like it’s happening now.
