The Golden Compass trailer is here

Our initial reaction to this first proper trailer for New Line's adaptation of Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy (sadly foisted with the US title instead of the UK's Northern Lights) is decidedly mixed.

There's certainly a lot of eye candy on display and all the production design effort that has been shovelled into the movie is up on screen.
But we're a bit bothered by the glowy-fantasy feel of it all (yes, we know it's a fantasy). There are moments that look about as real as George Lucas' "best" work on the Star Wars prequels. Still, this sort of film never quite locks in its effects until it's ready to be sent to cinemas, so perhaps we're seeing early shots.
