N is for Nausicaä Of The Valley Of The Wind

Whilst not created under the Studio Ghibli banner, this is arguably the film that kicked things off back in 1984 – bringing Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata and Joe Hisaishi together with the now established Ghibli aesthetic and approach. Valley Of The Wind follow young Princess Nausicaä who gets involved in a struggle with a kingdom that tries to use an ancient weapon to eradicate a jungle of mutant giant insects. It is down to Nausicaä to stop the kingdom from enraging these creatures.

The latest film from Studio Ghilbli, From Up On Poppy Hill , arrives in UK cinemas on 2 August. Featuring the voice talent of Gillian Anderson, Christina Hendricks, Jamie Lee Curtis, Anton Yelchin and Aubrey Plaza and is directed by Goro Miyazaki.
