Steven Soderbergh pondering Moneyball

Steven Soderbergh’s shuffling his schedule about again - and his next film may well be Brad Pitt-starring sports drama Moneyball.

According to Variety, he’s always harboured a dream of making something sports-related, and Moneyball would give him the chance to work with one of the Ocean’s team again.

Pitt’s been attached to Moneyball – the real-life tale of a baseball manager who used computer analysis to build a trophy-contending team despite a chronically low budget – since last year.

With a script penned by Steven Zaillian, the film had been handed to Marley & Me’s David Frankel as a possible directing job. Now it looks like Soderbergh’s the man.

What does this mean for his OTT Cleopatra musical movie? Sadly, anyone eagerly awaiting that one will have to go on eagerly awaiting it a bit longer.

Despite finding the money and securing the services of Catherine Zeta-Jones to play Cleo, he lost leading man Hugh Jackman to scheduling issues, so the delay might work in Hugh’s favour. Crossed adamantium blades, everyone…
