Owen Wilson and Jennifer Anniston are both dog lovers, so it seems natural for them to take on the film adapted from John Grogan’s bestselling book about living with a mad Labrador retriever.

It’s the real life tale of Grogan and his wife, who adopted the dog to try out the parenting experience. But the pooch they pick turns out to be a loon who gets kicked out of obedience school and throws their lives into chaos.

Fox 2000 clearly thinks this is a purebred project – the studio has hired The Devil Wears Prada director David Frankel to call the shots and Scott Frank is hard at work on the newest draft of the script. If they get it all housebroken soon enough, the plan is to start shooting next year. Let’s hope they don’t mind working with a creature that likes to leave its own crap around the set. We mean the dog, obviously.
