Magic: The Gathering
Director: TBC
Cast: TBC
Genre: Fantasy
Plot: Inspired by the trading card game, this fantasy is being turned into a movie by X-Men writer Simon Kinberg for 20th Century Fox, who are hoping to launch a franchise to rival the likes of Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings. No plot to speak of yet, but with all the wizards, spells and weapons contained in the game, expect something spellbinding.

Venom

Genre: Comic book adaptation
Plot: After his somewhat audience-dividing appearance in Spider-Man 3, the evil alien symbiote known as Venom is getting its own stand-alone movie as part of Sony’s plan to expand the Spider-Man movies into a franchise proper. No word yet on the story, though Chronicle director Josh Trank has expressed an interested in taking the helm.

Life After Beth
Director: Jeff Baena
Cast: Dane DeHaan, Aubrey Plaza, Anna Kendrick, John C. Reilly
Genre: Horror comedy
Plot: Written before Shaun Of The Dead , this zom-rom-com follows Zac (DeHaan), who gets a second chance with girlfriend Beth (Plaza) when she unexpectedly returns from the dead. The film premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival where it earned positive buzz. You can read our reactionary mini-review here .

Grimsby
Director: Louis Leterrier
Cast: Sacha Baron Cohen
Genre: Comedy
Plot: Cohen spoofs the secret agent genre, reportedly playing two brothers in this chuckle-a-thon. With his spy likely to be more Austin Powers than 007, Cohen was originally meant to be working alongside long-time collaborator Larry Charles (director of The Dictator , Bruno and Borat ), only for Charles to be replaced by French director Louis Leterrier (of The Hulk and last year’s Now You See Me ). Should we expect blockbuster action galore?

The Stand
Director: Josh Boone (TBC)
Cast: TBC
Genre: Post-apocalyptic horror-thriller
Plot: With a run of directors attached and then unattached to Stephen King’s adaptation of his epic novel (Scott Cooper, David Yates and Ben Affleck to name a few), The Stand is finally looking to be back on track. King’s post-apocalyptic epic follows survivors choosing sides of good and evil, Mother Abigail’s fight against the tyrannical Randall Flagg, after 99.4% of the population is wiped out by the super-flu “Captain Trips”.

The Raid 3
Director: Gareth Evans
Cast: TBC
Genre: Action/adventure thriller
Plot: The only hint we’ve got towards the plot so far is director Gareth Evans’ tweet that “ The Raid 3 would start two hours before The Raid 2 ends”. So more martial-arts thrills are expected. Evans is reportedly taking a couple years' break before filming the third film in this stuntman-falls-down-staircase series, though, so we may be waiting a while before it happens...

Charlie's forced to endure all manner of punishment from her husband (Mikkelsen), a violent mob boss, in a bid to woo her over.

Director: Patrick Hughes
Cast: TBC
Genre: Action/adventure thriller
Plot: The English-language remake of Gareth Evans’ super-charged martial arts tower-block blood bath is likely to repeat the plot of 'good-cop has to take down a crime lord'. Shame he doesn’t live on the bottom floor.

Escape From New York
Director: TBC
Cast: TBC
Genre: Science-fiction Thriller
Plot: Producer Joel Silver is heading up this remake of John Carpenter’s cult 1981 sci-fi thriller. The plot is likely to reflect the original narrative - rogue soldier Snake Plissken is tasked with saving the President from inmates of the maximum-security prison that is Manhattan Island. And an explanation of the city’s demise is rumoured for the remake.

Masters Of The Universe
Director: TBC
Cast: TBC
Genre: Action Adventure
Plot: He-Man returns to the screen in a live-action remake. No word on the plot yet, with director John Chu departing from the project and only rumours of the leading-man so far. Here's hoping for something as gloriously camp as the 1980s film starring Dolph Lundgren.
