After months of secrecy over DC adaptation Jonah Hex , Warner Brothers have finally shown their hand by releasing a first official trailer, stuffed with as many explosions and one-liners as you can handle.
The trailer outlines the Hex origin in fairly simple terms. Mean John Malkovich kills Jonah’s family and brands his face. Jonah acquires a scar and the apparent power to raise the dead. Jonah sets off to kill everyone.
And that’s about the size of it. The trailer jumps about all over the place making it fairly tricky to get a handle on plot intricacies (if indeed there are any), but judging by the comic books, the film will follow see Hex employed by the US Military to hunt down Malkovich’s notorious terrorist, helping himself to a nice dose of revenge in the process.
See what you make of it…
At the very least, this should be big, dumb fun, with Josh Brolin making for a suitably badass hero. We particularly like his “cut myself shaving” line in the saloon…
You know what you’re getting with Megan Fox (she’s looking as lovely as ever here) and Malkovich is clearly enjoying himself in the role of cackling maniac. It’s also nice to see The Wire ’s Lance Reddick popping up as Jonah’s arms dealer.
All in all, this seems like solid blockbuster fare, even if the old-school Western elements look more promising than the other-worldly gubbins. Line up the coffins boys, Jonah’s coming!
