Will Smith is facing off against the NFL in the first trailer for Concussion, Peter Landesman’s film telling the true story of Dr. Bennet Omalu, the Nigerian-born neuropathologist responsible for discovering CTE, a degenerative disease of the brain caused by repeated hits to the head.
Needless to say, Omalu’s work was not appreciated by the NFL, given the implications it had regarding the safety of the sport. And sure enough, it isn’t long before the good doctor soon realises the challenges of going up against “an organisation that owns a day of the week”. Take a look at the new trailer, below…
Looks like a classic underdog story of right vs might, with the role of Omalu lending Smith the opportunity to do some serious grandstanding. Is that awards season I see creeping over the horizon…? Co-starring Alec Baldwin, Luke Wilson and Albert Brooks, Concussion will open in the US on Christmas Day and the UK on January 29, 2016.
