Nintendo Switch 2 will soon cost $500 as price hikes roll out across the US, Europe, and more due to "various changes in market conditions"
"We sincerely apologize for the impact these price revisions may have"
Nintendo Switch 2 prices are going up across the globe, the company announced today.
Nintendo says it expects the "impact of various changes in market conditions" to "extend over the medium to long term," hence the price hikes that are rolling out later this year.
At the beginning of September, the Switch 2's price tag will be bumped up by $50 and cost $500 in the US. Over in Europe, the hybrid console will soon be priced at €500, up from €470. And in Canada, Switch 2's are going from $630 to $680. These changes will go into effect on September 1, 2026.
Similar console price increases are rolling out in Japan, for both the Switch 1 and Switch 2, later this month (May 25) "in light of changes in market conditions, and after considering the global business outlook." Nintendo Switch Online memberships are also getting more expensive in the region in July, and the company says it's planning to revise NSO subscriptions in South Korea, too.
"Nintendo Switch Online is offered as a globally unified service, and pricing will be revised to support appropriate alignment among regions," Nintendo adds. "We sincerely apologize for the impact these price revisions may have on our customers and other stakeholders, and we deeply appreciate your understanding."
A recent report alleged that Nintendo investors in Japan were putting pressure on the company to follow Xbox and PlayStation in bumping up its console prices since Switch 2s were already being sold at a loss, apparently, largely for reasons outside of the company's control.
AI data centers have a chokehold on RAM, making components needed for these consoles particularly tricky to get a hold of – Valve's even struggling to get its Steam Machine out. Then, there's the ongoing Israel-Iran war that's likely affecting shipping costs, those tariffs imposed by the US government, and the general state of the world that's hitting much more than just gaming, but is still bumping up Switch 2 price regardless.
