In an age where Master Chief himself is coming to PlayStation 5 for Halo: Campaign Evolved, it seems like any other Microsoft exclusive could potentially make the jump. There'd been mixed signals on the new Fable from Playground Games, but the studio has since reconfirmed that you can play it on Sony's system.
A fan directly asked about this on Twitter, prompting a firm, clear response from the developer. "Fable will be available at launch on Xbox Series X/S, Game Pass, Steam and PlayStation 5," the post states.
Good news for anyone hoping to return to Albion who only has a PS5, then. There had been some confusion due to Xbox CEO Asha Sharma and CCO Matt Booty putting out a joint statement that mentioned they "will reevaluate our approach to exclusivity," perhaps hinting at a rollback on prior plans.
That doesn't seem to be the case for Fable, at least. On the subject of heading back to Briar Hill, Playground Games also assuages rumors of a potential delay out of 2026 in a roundabout way, through a post on LinkedIn advertising open roles on the team.
"With Fable coming later this year, we're continuing to recruit across multiple disciplines to bring more exceptional talent into the team," the post reads. Still on for the back half of 2026, then – that's good to know.
The studio's got Forza Horizon 6 to worry about at the moment, as the new racer's been out for just under a week so far. Once we get a month or two removed, though, I'd expect to start hearing about the legendary action-RPG's grand comeback. There's an Xbox showcase as part of Summer Games Fest on June 7 – an appearance seems likely. Watch this space.
