There's still a lot we don't know about Exodus, even if its elevator pitch is extremely compelling: a new sci-fi RPG from former Mass Effect devs. Today, those devs have finally given us our first look at in-game action, and would you believe it? It seems like Exodus is going to play a whole lot like Mass Effect.
You can check out the footage for yourself below, but it consists of three major segments. The first gives us a look at combat, and this section offers the most to chew on. Our player character, Jun, is in cover, and commands a party member, Elise, to use a rocket barrage ability on a group of unsuspecting enemies. The rockets rain down in impressive fashion, and then we pop into action.
The combat looks nice and punchy, and it seems we'll have different weapon types for different purposes. Jun first takes down a shielded robot with a few blasts from a powerful, single-shot energy rifle, then swaps over – via a Mass Effect-style radial wheel menu, naturally – to a ballistic, rapid-fire weapon to take down a humanoid foe.
Then there's a bit of traversal through "a space tower in Lyonesse," as the devs explain in an accompanying blog post. It's visually impressive, with cool, ostentatious architecture hanging over a planetary city far, far below, and we get a brief look at a grappling hook that offers some nice swinging physics, too. Finally, we're off to "an ancient shrine on Khonsu" that teases some of the game's deeper mysteries.
"In our last Community Update, we asked what you wanted to see from EXODUS in 2026," the devs explain. "The signal came back clear: gameplay. Not just quick-cut trailers or cinematics, but uninterrupted footage that shows what it looks like to play: combat encounters, choices, and how a mission actually unfolds with someone at the controls. Copy that."
This brief footage isn't really enough to get a good sense of what the game will feel like, as we'll need the full context of what's likely a meaty RPG to know for sure, but it's an effective teaser. More short clips in a similar style will be revealed over the next few months, with "a longer gameplay showcase" to follow in the summer. This will show off "continuous footage with moment-to-moment gameplay, including combat, conversations, in-mission choices, and more."
After that, the devs intend to offer "deep dive spotlights" on companions and the accompanying romance options, the hub area Persepolis, how in-game choices will work, and other gameplay mechanics. Hopefully, this will all give us a much better idea of how Exodus is going to turn out ahead of its launch in early 2027.
