Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree is a Japanese spin on a Hades style roguelite and you can play a demo now!

Bandai Namco revealed a new look at its fast paced roguelite Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree at the Future Games Show, showing off never before seen footage of new biomes, bosses, and some of the NPCs you'll meet on your adventure. As well as showing off more of the game, Bandai Namco also confirmed the launch of a demo you can play right now to see more.

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree is a fantasy roguelite set in a far off mystical world where you pay as Towa, leading a team of guardians in protecting Shinju Village from the evil Magatsu. That means exploring the surrounding lands with one of the Guardians of the Sacred Tree in tow, teaming up with their special abilities and skills to battle Magatsu’s evil influence.

Towa has eight companions they can fight alongside, while wielding the power of their sacred sword (Tsurugi) and staff (Kagura). Each guardian has their own set of swords and abilities, meaning each pairing you can make bring a unique interplay of skills in combat as you battle through different lands and dungeons. As you fight and progress you can receive Graces to build out your special attacks and craft new swords at the village smith to improve your combat prowess.

This quest takes place across different timelines, letting you see Shinju Village evolve over the years. You'll be able to form long standing bonds with the people that live there, learning more about them, their stories and the customs of the village. At the same time, each visit to the village is where you can improve your characters by learning Graces, crafting Swords and training at the dojo.

Finally, just to sweeten the deal, Towa features the music of Hitoshi Sakimoto, the Japanese composer best known for Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy 12. Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree will be out on PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X on September 19, and you can play the demo now!
