This 2D Metroidvania inspired by Conan and Beastmaster, featuring hand-drawn animations fit for a Saturday morning cartoon, is coming out in September
After the demo launched in May, Barbarian Saga now has a September release date
2D action game Barbarian Sage: The Beastmaster gets a flashy new trailer at the Future Games Show Summer Showcase, revealing new gameplay and it's September 9 release date.
In Barbarian Saga, you play as the last Beastmaster, a warrior of great strength capable of shapeshifting into different beasts and gaining new powers by channelling animal souls, from birds to big cats. In case it wasn't obvious, the game is also inspired by 80s and 90s cult classics such as Beastmaster, Conan, and Golden Axe, and features flashy hand-drawn animations.
- Wishlist Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster on Steam now
As the chosen one meant to unite men and beasts against a deadly alliance of kings and wizards, you must also explore the realms of Arborea, which combine into a vast Metroidvania-inspired world, to put down any evil you come across.
Your Beastmaster can also be customized by collecting necklace beads, amulets, and relics to alter your magical capabilities and attacks, letting you create your own build. These bestial powers can also be used to unlock new areas of this interconnected world.
You'll also come across plenty of Arenas where you can engage in bloody duels with close-up camera angles like a classic fighting game. But not everyone is out to get you, as friendly NPCs can also give you new quests and potentially unlock unique endings.
As mentioned, you'll be able to play Barbarian Saga: The Beastmaster from September 9, 2026, on Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2. In the meantime, you can check out the demo that's live on Steam right now, get it on your wishlist, and follow the developers, Dormidin Studios, here for all the latest.
