"Massive" Hollow Knight: Silksong mod promises areas and mechanics that Team Cherry cut or which "could have been given more justice"
In typical Hollow Knight fashion, there's no launch window
Generally speaking, if you're trying to do everything in Hollow Knight: Silksong, you're looking at 60-70 hours of play. That's a lot of time for an indie Metroidvania, but should you be someone who's already explored every corner of Pharloom, a massive new mod is about provide plenty more adventuring.
The fanmade expansion is known as Hollow Knight: Silksoul, and it provides new areas, mechanics, secrets, and more for the experienced player to unravel and slide through. Right off the bat, what's most intriguing here is the fact that the team have constructed areas that were cut from the released game.
Silksong's long development time means there are aspects that were previewed but didn't make it into the version we've been playing. Silksoul's devs are remedying that, to the best of their abilities. "Cut areas like the Red Coral Gorge and The Gloom will return, with areas like Hunter's March (Hunters' Nest) being adjusted to align with the April 2021 map and known cut content," reads the description under a trailer for the modification.
"Some of these areas, in our opinion, could have been given more justice, especially the ants!" the team adds.
There are also mechanics that were swapped out by Team Cherry for whatever reason, as well as fresh secrets and interactions, according to the teaser. The emphasis is on changes that were made during development, since the name is a reference to a mode called Silk Soul that was in builds circa April 2021.
To tie it all together, the difficulty is being heightened, just in case you thought you were safe. It's an impressive project, and as such, there's no release window yet. You can follow development in a Discord server, as the people involved aren't sure when this will see the light of day. Yep – that's Silksong alright.
