Game music worth putting on your iPod

OutRun (Arcade, 1986)
We did consider leaving out this game from the list because it's too obvious. But when some members of the GR team really do have OutRun music on their iPods, we figured it would be hypocritical to leave it out.

Back in 1986, before CDs were used for games, Yu Suzuki of AM2 wanted studio-quality music. The result was this, along with three other timeless tracks (Passing Breeze, Splash Wave and Last Wave). Structurally superb, an unforgettable melody and a mood that fitted the blue sky gameplay perfectly meant that Magical Sound Shower lived up to its ridiculous name. Oh, and while the remixes in OutRun 2 were good, the original's still our fave.

Above: Awesome game, but the track is that-a-way. Doofus
