Concept art can be quite beautiful, but nothing really compares to that feeling you get when you first see what a game will actually look like. So personally, I'm pretty happy that Vampyr, the game about being a blood-drinker during an early 20th century flu epidemic in London, looks as moody in its first screenshots as it did in conceptual renderings. It's certainly a departure from studio Dontnod's most recent game, Life is Strange.
Now, when I say "moody," I don't mean "perfect." There's definitely room for improvement here. If I may so suggest, it would be nice to be able to see the people wandering about these foreboding environments. As things stand, all I can clearly make out are the buildings. I get that, as a vampire, I have a certain disdain for all things sunny and bright - but even so, these images are just absurdly dark.
Vampyr is set to ryse on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 in 2017.
