The Boys showrunner says that Homelander is "more miserable than ever" in season 5, despite being more powerful than the president

The Boys creator and showrunner Eric Kripke says Homelander is quite possibly the most miserable he's ever been in the fifth and final season... and yeah, that tracks.

"We really make the point of the more powerful he becomes, the less happy he becomes," Kripke says in the latest issue of SFX. "He can't understand why. He assumes that he just needs to get a little more powerful. We have a guy who the president answers to, and he finds himself more miserable than ever. He’s like, 'Okay, what are the next steps that can finally make me happy?' We explore those steps in season five, and they’re batshit."

I have a feeling that those steps may have something to do with milk, but I digress. Homelander also has some new things to be upset about in season 5, and, aside from Starfire and A-Train's rebellion getting even bigger and stronger, there is now one other Supe whose powers match his – and who is therefore the only other Supe who can bring him down.

If you didn't watch Gen V, which you absolutely should before The Boys season 5 premieres, season 2 taught us that (spoiler alert) Marie Moreau and Homelander were given the same form of Compound V (which makes them siblings, technically, but that's a whole different article).

Marie possesses the ability to heal and even resurrect people, which more or less makes her the new leader of the Boys. Sadly, Kripke has also said we shouldn't expect Marie to actually kill Homelander, so, if anything, she's just another nuisance on his very long list.
