Our list of the best new movies on Prime Video to watch this weekend will help you pick out something great to watch over the next few days. Prime Video's archive is vast, and it can be difficult to know where to begin. That's where a list like this comes in handy. All three of these films have been added to Prime Video's catalog this month, and all three are certified bangers.
For this week's list, we've picked out three films in a range of genres. There's a Coen Brothers' comedy, a recent action movie, and one of J.J. Abrams best films. So if you're looking for laughs, thrills, or a sense of wonder, we've got you covered.
When you've watched these three movies, make sure to also check out our weekly guide to the best new shows and movies, as well as our lists of the best shows on Prime Video, and the best movies to watch on Prime Video. Happy Friday!
Super 8
Director(s): J.J. Abrams
Available: US/UK
J.J. Abrams directed this nostalgic science fiction adventure in-between making his first and second Star Trek movies. It's 1979, and 14-year-old Joe (Joel Courtney) is grieving the loss of his mother. To take his mind off things, he is making a no-budget horror movie with his friends Charles (Riley Griffiths), Preston (Zach Mills), Martin (Gabriel Basso), and Cary (Ryan Lee) to enter into a Super 8 film competition. Then, one night while they're filming at a train depot, they witness something incredible...
Super 8 feels, in many ways, like Stranger Things before Stranger Things existed. It's spooky and funny, but also warm-hearted – a film about friendships as much as it is about marauding aliens. It's up there with Abrams' best work.
Watch Super 8.

Hail, Caesar!
Director: The Coen Brothers
Available: US/UK
The Coen Brothers returned to comedy with this deadpan Golden Age Hollywood-set caper. It's the 1950s and Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin) is the head of production at Capitol Pictures. He's juggling covering up for his chaotic stars' various misdeeds while also considering a new job offer when Baird Whitlock (George Clooney), the star of the studio's next big movie, is abducted.
Hail, Caesar! is an uproarious late-period classic from a dynamic directorial duo. While much of the Coen Brothers' filmography has dealt with heavy themes, Hail, Caesar! reminds you of just how funny they are. It also makes you hope that they reunite for a new movie sooner rather than later.
Watch Hail, Caesar!.
Shadow Force
Director: Joe Carnahan
Available: US/UK
The Rip director Joe Carnahan also released this frenetic action film last year. Shadow Force stars Kerry Washington as Kyrah Owens and Omar Sy as Issac Sarr, two members of a secretive special forces unit working for the CIA. When the two fell in love and Kyrah became pregnant, however, they left their old job behind. That decision comes back to haunt them when their old boss, Jack Cinder (Mark Strong), tracks them down and sends their old teammates to take them out.
If you're in the mood for a tough and exciting action thriller, then Shadow Force should fit the bill nicely. Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Cliff "Method Man" Smith are also a part of the star-packed cast.
Watch Shadow Force.
