Fan favorite Star Wars villain Darth Maul is about to get his own animated streaming series on Disney Plus, and along with anticipating the show's impending premiere, we've now got season 2 to look forward to. Yes, Maul - Shadow Lord has been renewed before the first episode has even aired.
The confirmation comes via the official Star Wars site hot on the heels of the show's creator and current Star Wars top dog Dave Filoni teasing a second season for the show in an interview with Vanity Fair, in which he discusses Maul's path back from his death in Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace.
"Maul was a character that George wanted to bring back in Clone Wars," Filoni explains, referring to the Clone Wars animated show. "And I thought that'd be very difficult - since he cut him in half. But he was very confident that I would find a way to make that justifiable. At the end of the day, people like that character, so they kind of will it back into existence, as long as it comes back in a form that they enjoy."

He was undoubtedly one of the most exciting characters in the lead up to The Phantom Menace thanks to his sinister look and his extra kickass double bladed lightsaber. I was certainly on the hype train.
All of that changed though when Maul lost his big fight at the end of The Phantom Menace by being cut in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi, cutting short a promising career as a villain. I'm not a huge fan of the Star Wars prequels, but that lightsaber fight remains one of my favorite moments from the entire franchise.
Maul – Shadow Lord starts streaming on Disney Plus this April 6, with two episodes releasing each week until May 4 (AKA Star Wars Day). Keep track with our Maul – Shadow Lord release schedule.
