Project Hail Mary screenwriter says his Sinister Six movie was never made due to the 2014 Sony Hack, which definitely makes sense.

"I had a big Spider-Man movie about the Sinister Six go down because of the Sony hack," Goddard told Variety. "My office was right on the lot, and I saw the FBI swarm in and the helicopters fly over the studio. I was sad about it, but there was literally nothing I could do to change the course of events. I suppose it was better than if they hadn’t liked the script."

A movie based on the Sinister Six, a group of Spidey villains including Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Doc Ock, Mystero, and Sandman, was ordered at Sony following the release of The Amazing Spider-Man in 2014. That same year, an anonymous group of alleged North Korean hackers hacked into Sony and leaked everything from employee emails, to executive salaries, audio and video files of then-unreleased films, upcoming film plans, screenplays...you name it. The hacking was done as a response to the then-upcoming Seth Rogen and James Franco film The Interview, which involves a CIA plot to assassinate Kim Jong Un. Sony pulled the film from formal release (though it was made available for digital download) and cancelled a slew of other projects in the process.
