"Supergirl was raised on a chunk of a disintegrated planet. People were dying all around her. She's not Superman, and she's definitely not Clark Kent," Gunn says in the clip. "Kara is a complete force to be reckoned with. Milly [Alcock] brings this kind of rock and roll vibe to the character."
Article continues belowDirector Craig Gillespie echoes Gunn's thoughts on Supergirl star Milly Alcock, saying "Milly is really killing it. She just immediately inhabited this character in the best way. I couldn't imagine anybody else in this role."
Supergirl first appeared in the epilogue of 2025's Superman movie, arriving hungover at the Fortress of Solitude to pick up her dog, Krypto, who is central to the plot of the Supergirl film.
Alcock herself offers some insight into how Kara Zor-El's tragic past informs who she is as a superhero, while also expressing that Supergirl will stand on its own as a film.
"Supergirl is fueled by this pain, fueled by this hurt," Alcock explains. "I think people are expecting a sidekick film to Superman, like she's kind of peripheral in his world. But what they're actually gonna get is a really kickass Supergirl. It's a really empowering story about resilience. You can be your own hero."
