Edward Norton clears up the Hulk rumours

Such has been the level of rumours swirling around the post-production of The Incredible Hulk that the filmmakers are naturally swinging into action to downplay the idea that the film is being fought over.

Back in January, Edward Norton spoke exclusively to Total Film - in his only interview anywhere about The Incredible Hulk - to outline his vision for the project.

Now, Entertainment Weekly has chatted to director Louis Leterrier and received a statement from writer/star Edward Norton to nab their side of the story. Leterrier remarks how he was terrified at the thought of the outspoken writer/actor calling the shots, but found him an opinionated yet solid collaborator. And the main source of the differences between Marvel and Norton? The studio wanted a shorter, more action-packed cut, whereas the actor (and his director) preferred a more meditative, longer version. Marvel won, apparently.

For his part, Norton e-mailed a statement to the mag: "Every good movie gets forged through collaboration, and different ideas among people who are all committed, and respect the validity of each other's opinions, is the heart of filmmaking. Regrettably, our healthy process, which is and should be a private matter, was misrepresented publicly as a 'dispute,'seized on by people looking for a good story, and has been distorted to such a degree that it risks distracting from the film itself, which Marvel, Universal and I refuse to let happen.''
