Jerry Seinfeld has been virtually off the radar since his titular sitcom finished, raising unrealistic expectations for this cartoon comeback which he’s co-written and produced. To be honest, there’s not much anybody could do to flesh out his flighty conceit: a bumbling bee (Seinfeld himself) who takes humanity to court for stealing honey. The pluses here are all in the details – Sting being grilled for his waspish moniker, Larry King popping up in insect form and a few sly nods to The Graduate. But they’re not big laughs, more knowing chuckles that grow increasingly bee-grudging the more directors Steve Hickner and Simon J Smith bug us with their eco-friendly message about maintaining the natural order. Whatever happened to no hugs, no learning? It’s enough to bring you out in hives.
